  1. WH Smith are hopeless. I'm in Stafford. As last year the tills are not programmed with the discount. Same happened to me last year and I paid the full price. This time I abandoned the transaction at the auto tills and insisted on the discount at the staffed till. The exasperated staff member had to put it through manually whilst a huge queue was building up. I was not the first to claim the deal that day, so why don't they get it fixed? I assume Key Publishing have actually mentioned this deal to Smiths?

    Hornby RailRoad HST

I expect the artwork has been prepared for at least 12 months, long before the model itself actually existed. Hornby are big users of Photo-shop and renders for prospective models. Most people won't notice the difference between the box lid and the model. Those that do will be pleasantly surprised.
  3. Hi, A really enjoyable show again this year. Switched back to going on Sunday, much, much more pleasant and enjoyable. I arrived just before 10 and stayed until kicking out time. I'm sure looking at everyone's pictures and videos I've missed stuff again this year. I go with a plan, and then just wander round aimlessly for hours. A bit late to the party with the photos. I will get round to naming them and captioning them. But I was concerned that they would never get posted. The following is a link to my Flickr album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/trickymundo2009/albums/72157712034901118
  4. Fair bit of clag coming off that 68, thought they were supposed to be more environmentally friendly than the old diesels?
  5. Glad to be of service. Although as a disclaimer I hadn't actually paid at that point as Dave had his Paypal 'difficulties' at the time. I paid by credit card when he had the new website.
  6. Yes, me. I enjoyed the scanning party. So there is such a thing as a free lunch! ;-)
  7. I have checked the on-line account for my M&S Money credit card and I have had £248.99 credited to the account yesterday (26/06/2019). I posted off the proof on the 17th June. So rapid work by HSBC the ultimate owners of M&S Bank. :-) Good news as I've already spent some of the money on a Hornby APT from Ebay. Should arrive on my birthday. :-)
  8. I wanted Leicester North, then this turned up! :-)
  9. I visited the show yesterday. It was very, very good. Two big regrets, well three. 1. I didn't arrive early enough 2. I shouldn't have spent so long riding up and down on the trains. :-) 3. Perhaps I should have gone for the two days. I only got there at 11:30, that was an hour and an half missed opportunity. As I'd never been to the GCR before (to my shame) I wanted to see the railway too, so that was more time not looking at the wonderful layouts. Got chucked out with the rest at 5:00pm. So perhaps two days next year? The show was huge, see attached image.

    DJM, the end.

It looks the wrong shape to me... I'll get me coat! :-)
  11. My impression was that to save money all documents will be published on the portal and not posted to people. Whether that includes not sending further emails in future, I don't know....
  12. It was still quite warm. But you can pop in and out to get a breather. Unless you are on a stand of course. Great show again this year. My satnav found it really well. Free parking diagonally opposite outside the old council depot. Quite a strong smell of wee on occasions, hope it wasn't me. :-)
  13. This model works very well on the move for me. Better than some of my locos for sound retention. I suspect that the wipers/pick-ups are really tight on the wheels of mine as it is not a free runner at all. Maybe be some (careful) adjustment of the remaining pick-ups would do the trick?
  14. I was nearly charged £8.99 on the quick till in Smith's too. "You must be the first one to buy it?" Assistant made no effort to get till changed. This was the same branch that refused to give me the discount on the Hornby Magazine, Hornby Catalogue combo in January. Computer says no. There's a large section on Pocher - which I thought was sold off to the Danes? However the Pocher website is still a subsite of Hornby. Did this all fall through? Confused.com.
  15. Yes, my original post that was shortened in the quote above, stated that it had been replaced by a footbridge/lifts. I imagine this is a Network Rail standard issue? It can be seen here: https://goo.gl/images/GQPkxA Not very aesthetic, but I guess it does the job?
  16. With the recent news that St. Austell's GWR footbridge is currently being dismantled and moved to the Helston Railway: https://www.facebook.com/helstonrailway/videos/386724035438647/ I thought it was opportune to share some some photos from a visit I made in September 2013. The old place has changed quite a bit since then, with the very modern footbridge/lifts appearing. Very handy I'm sure, but not very aesthetic? I took the photos to help me build my model railway layout, which will feature the station in the 1970's, it still isn't started! Hopefully these don't break any rules on Kernow 'today'? https://www.flickr.com/photos/trickymundo2009/sets/72157680011948556
  17. That half-year report is very interesting, as was the previous one. I'd commend everyone to give it a good read. It's written in a very plain speaking and direct way and not full of management buzzword bingo and platitudes as were all the previous ones. Lots of barbed comments about previous management p*ssing money up the wall. How much did the move to Sandwich and back cost? Also they've sold their building and now effectively leased it back. There is only so much family silver you can sell off.
  18. Nice shots on a lovely layout like them a lot.
  19. Hi Dave, It's all about Comms, Comms, Comms. I was one of those that ordered at the last minute. 11:52pm on deadline day! Due to timing issues with Pay-pal I never paid the deposit. I had an order confirmation from Durham Trains of Stanley, but have received nothing since. Last weekend I paid the deposit to your new secure site. But I was never totally sure what the final status of your website was as you had had issues with it, so hesitated for some time. I would gently but firmly ask you to email everyone to let them know what the progress of the project is and just remind everyone what to do next. A fair bit of work now, but it will pay dividends in the long run. I don't want the project to fail due to lack of Comms. Kind regards, Richard
  20. Isn't that the current (previous) Hornby 87, based on the Lima one? Service sheet is dated 2009! Sorry, this has been pointed out earlier in the thread, this is what happens when you reply to a cached thread!
  21. Here another album of APT photos. It includes the APT-E at York; a couple of the APT-P on the WCML at Madeley, Staffordshire; and a shot of an unnumbered APT-P at either Crewe or Derby. Three of the photos were taken by my dad and the Crewe/Derby one was either me or my dad. https://www.flickr.com/photos/trickymundo2009/albums/72157645511424974
  22. Really enjoyed the visit to the Crewe Heritage Centre for the Scanning party yesterday. My other half couldn't believe the weather was so poor just 30 or so miles further north. Thanks to everyone who help organise the event. To my shame I haven't been to the Crewe Heritage Centre before. Here are a couple of Flickr Albums for you to have a look at: Heritage Centre: https://www.flickr.com/photos/trickymundo2009/albums/72157669718091568 APT-P only: https://www.flickr.com/photos/trickymundo2009/albums/72157695870617621
  23. When in 2023 are these all due to appear? ;-) I'll get me coat. :-) At least I'll have time to save up for the Western Pullman.
  24. Looks good enough to eat, wonder whether they've moulded it out of Chocolate? ;-)
  25. Just to clarify my issue with connections between cars, this was me not having the 'knack' of assembling the unit, not a problem with the product itself. I am very happy with my APT and very grateful to the whole team involved with creating it.
