  1. Sorry Tim, misunderstood topic of the thread so have asked to hide my photos and will post no more. Hope that's OK.
  2. Apparently Network Rail plan to restore the passing loop at Brading thus bringing that platform back into use.
  3. On 4.3.78 I visited remote High Field station on the Selby - Driffield line. It was in an advanced state of dereliction but retained its NER enamel nameboard which had been painted over in BR(NE) orange and white but most of the paint had peeled off. 4. When I spoke to the farmer who owned it in 1996 he said he once caught a German guy trying to take the 1862 date stone from above the door and said he had put it indoors for safe keeping. He said he would like the remains of the signalbox preserved so I put him in touch with the fledgling Eden Valley Railway and they dismantled it and took it to Warcop.
  5. One of the waiting rooms from Bubwith station ended up on the cricket ground at Wetwang where it remains to this day. Seen here 42 years ago. Wetwang [2] 20.5.78 by A1 Northeastern, on Flickr
  6. In 1977 I visited Bowes station which was more or less intact though uninhabitable. Most of the wood was rotten from 15 years exposure to the ferocious Stainmore elements but inside the waiting room a poster survived from the last day. Bowes Station 28.2.77 by A1 Northeastern, on Flickr
  7. I think, in the time honoured style of British Rail, they repainted it about 7 years before it was demolished. In 1996 the pieces of cast iron leg on the sides of the valley were still in BR (M) cream and maroon paint. Theres a nice simulation of the line here with the viaduct at 42.40
  8. When I walked it in 1996 the remains of Bleath Gill box were still up to shoulder height and there was an old wooden sign near it which I think had been a "Whistle" sign. Finding the NER enamel nameplate from such an illustrious place was incredible, it would be worth hundreds of pounds in an auction. I used to own a cast iron seat name from Barras station.
  9. Although I don't have photos to hand it would have to be Bowes Station and Belah Viaduct on the Stainmore Line. I walked the line in 1996 and got talking to the owner of Bowes station and he said he had several offers to buy it but they were just speculators and he would rather leave it a ruin than sell it. At Belah I found a signal ladder and fragments of the cast iron legs in the valley still in the maroon and cream paint of the London Midland Region.
  10. Burdale station on the Malton & Driffield railway closed to passengers in 1950 and altogether in 1958. The stationmaster and his family then had to move out. When I first visited it in October 1976 it was a roofless shell and I visited it twice after that in 1977 and 78 and both times it got significantly worse. In 78 one end wall had collapsed taking most of the roof with it.
  11. 55002 at Battersby in 1981 when she worked an ordinary railex from Newcastle to Whitby via Sunderland. At the time Battersby was still signalled with 3 platforms.
  12. In May 1978 I paid my third visit to Burdale station and here is the shattered ruin on that hot summer day. It's amazing to think that restored it would have been worth a quarter of a million today today. Burdale Station [9] 20.5.78 by A1 Northeastern, on Flickr In my train simulator time has stood still and here is GWR 45XX class 4547 rocking through the station heading north. 13. Thanks for that Mick, the signal which had me scratching my head was number 24. I've only seen 1 photo of Driffield West Junction in 1956 and it is just a slotted post home on a relatively short post. I guess the distant arm must have been removed when the M&DR closed to passengers in 1950 ? Here's the junction in my simulation. Although I have built the whole M&DR , the Market Weighton line only goes as far as Kellythorpe crossing which you can see near the top left corner. 14. Hi micknich, do you have signalling diagrams for the current Driffield signalbox and for Driffield West ? I have based the signalling at Wansford on your old diagram published a few years ago but not found any diagrams for the other Driffield boxes, ideally about 1950 - 58. 15. Hi Tom, yes I have uploaded 3 clips of my M&DR route to Youtube recently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evDhNozCaFQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekZ5M-affjQ&t=106s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcQw9PJXtFw
  16. Hello everybody, I am back after several years absence and it is nice to see the thread still chugging along. Although I deleted my Flickr account about the same time I last posted here I have restarted it and here is a link to my photostream. https://www.flickr.com/photos/155871599@N08/
