  1. This thread is starting to cost me money now, just visited my local model shop and found E3095 lurking on their shelves. Well it would have been rude just to leave it there. I ve arrived home to find a photo of the very same beastie has been posted on here. How strange is that? Thank you Robert for posting it
  2. Many thanks for posting this view. The avoiding lines at Crewe were not photographed as much as the main station. I can remember being a small lad trying to look over the wall on Nantwich Road, down onto the avoiding lines trying to watch the freight trains going by.
  3. I don't think i ve ever seen an 86 in in Banger Blue with anything other than blue grills. No doubt someone will now post a photo! But yes they did get dirty in traffic. Do you have a photo that suggested that they were black? Bob C
  4. would that be Jay Aston's jumper?
  5. Thanks for posting theses, the EMU brings back memories, l remember there was always a set or two sitting at Crewe ticking away in a bay platform somewhere, they were so much part of the scene that you did not really notice them! Thanks Bob C
  6. Lovely shot, thank you for posting, and very smart the AL6 looks too
  7. Just my luck, l cannot open this at work, so that's now lined up for tonight entertainment Many thanks for the link Michael
  8. Thanks Jez looks like the sun is coming out again! Happy Bunny Bob C
  9. What no more photos of Electric Blue AL1-6s?, My days are going to be a lot darker now Bob C
  10. Many thanks for this, l am slowly piecing the picture together, this thread has been a big help in that respect. Looks like my shopping list is going to include quite a few more Brakes! I hope Bachmann don't take to long revamping their Bulleid stock as from looking at photos from around the mid 1950s most of the front line stock seems to be Bulleid, with Maunsell stock on secondary duties, so l think they will be getting a lot of my cash when the time comes. cheers Bob C
  11. For me, these images are the 60s distilled in a photograph, enjoying every one of them. Thank you for posting them
  12. There are some fantastic B&W shots appearing here, very atmospheric takes me back to my early child hood in Crewe. Thank you
  13. Hi 96701 See post no 70 Any idea what date 87013 s photo was taken? Bob C
  14. Hi Zomboid I ve just checked with both the Doncaster and Morpeth OLE supervisors on the ECML, on duty at the moment, and they both confirm that they have Mk3b type caternary with copper contact wire, which is the same as here on the southern section of the Midland main line between St Pancras and Bedford. Neither of them are aware of any Aluminium sheathed contact wire on any other section, unless due to lower speed some could exist around Leeds? Bob C
  15. Yes you are quite correct Titan, thank you for pointing it out, l had a senior moment, and was thinking of catenary wire which is 6 strands Aluminium and 1 strand of Stainless Steel, with as you rightly said a hard drawn composite copper contact wire below. Apologies for the slip Bob C
  16. Hi Rockershovel The OLE contact wire is not steel, its normally a hard drawn copper composite conductor, this is suspended from the Catenary by stainless steel droppers. The Contact wire has a rebate running its length which the Dropper chips fit into. Does not sound the strongest of kit but it stands up to a lot of punishment on a daily basis. Bob C
  17. Hi Jonny I like the embankment shot of the class 86, it reminds me of the many trips my family made, south from Crewe to Euston in 1975-76 prior to the family finally re locating to London in 76. Happy Days indeed ! Whoever the manufacturer is who finally produces the 86 and 87s, he will be able to send his children to college on what he's going to make out of me.
  18. I remember seeing this loco at Euston along with Novelty l think the other loco was, and thinking how awful this livery looked!!
  19. This is rapidly becoming my all time favourite thread, loving all the Banger Blue photos from the late 70s, early 80s, a big thank you to all the contributors . Please please please keep em coming! Bob C
  20. Well you wont get stung at that price Tim !!
  21. Hi Pete Thanks for Posting, interestingly for me, that the very month I started, on the 7th if memory serves, who knows l could have been lurking somewhere in the back ground! Bob C
  22. I started my railway career on the Footplate at Euston in 1979, so these shots take me back to the time when we had stock movements around stations, and light engines running to and from depots, and station pilots! Ah great days!. Please keep these smashing photos coming! Bob C
  23. Hi Chris The layout is set to the East of Exeter, possibly Basingstoke - Salisbury section? thanks Bob C
