Apologies if this has been asked before, but are the three 'Chunnel' bodyside rings separate etches or are they part of the moulded shell?

And is the earlybird cut-off order date still tomorrow (19th)?

    thanks

    Al

Early bird has been extended (till May?), and I believe they are part of the shell.

If i have done my research correctly then the lower half of the image shows the current contents of each pack & the formation of each of the 4 trains.

Not sure if i got the correct 2 coaches from pack 2 in the Highlander formation

I had a quick look through the 27 pages & the only formation information I found was for the Lowlander & Highlander Trains which only shows the Class 92 & 16 coaches from London (top half of image, if I recall correctly the contents pack 2 was changed earlier to refelect the current formation of the Fort William train)

What i would like to know is what locos would be correct for each of the 3 trains north of Glasgow

You would be looking at KMS Railtech/Accurascale's expression of interest to produce the 73/9's as the sleeper is now hauled by re-engined class 73 locomotives, the 73's that are used on the sleeper are 73966-73971. They have had the 3rd Rail gear removed as they won't need it in the Highlands.

I'd be surprised if Heljan tool up for the /1s.  A body/chassis swap with a Hornby 87 shouldnt be too difficult though (with an 86/2) though, that would get you pretty close.

Knowing me I'd start the project and then it would be announced! Not too high up on the priority list so it's on the back burner but if one turned up I'd snap it up :D

No GT3 for me either (waiting for the Hunslets) but I do have two 55's on order and I'm tempted by Concrete Bob or one of the DRS 37/6's so I am quite eager for their arrival too :)

    Cheers,

      60800

I have the two Rails Deltics, and the Rails 37 and then 3 of the A/S 37/6's on order, they had been missing from my collection for some time and these seemed the ideal purchase!

Very much looking forward to them all hitting the layout this year

Freightliner 86/6s should only be sold as pairs :D plus there has to be an 86501 surely :good:.

You'd hope eventually! For now I'm happy with the updated circuits in the standard FL 86 & the Gaugemaster specials.

Glad they have done 86401 in the CS livery though, would be nice to see 86101 done in the BR blue as preserved style too and of course as mentioned earlier 86259 as well!

On the Class 86/0 the lighting arrangement is the same as the first batch of 86s a few years ago - headcode panels and tail lights lit in direction of travel and no cab lights. The 86/4 will have separate control of tail lights on DCC but no microswitches for DC users as it's very difficult to find a place for them under the body.

Our plan is that the 86/2 will be a further evolution, with cab lights added and more DCC functionality.

    Hope this helps

    Ben

Good to hear Ben,  looking forward to the 86/4's and the 86/6's the DCC switchable lights will come in handy when they are running in pairs!

    Cheers

By anywhere do you mean anywhere between westbury and Eastleigh ;)

It’s spent most of its time there but it worked out of Barron Hill for a while, as @TomScrut says it had its holiday at Doncaster, it worked out of tonbridge recently, it’s done Biomass workings too, so has been a few more places along with its GBRf Railtours endeavours.

    Dear All,

Just been informed that the Class 86/0s will be shipped to UK retailers in the first week of April. They are about to land in Denmark, but will be checked first and then start to be shipped from April 1st (no jokes please!)

    Hope this helps

    Ben

Any ETA's on the 86/6's or the 86/4's?

    Cheers Chris

  9. Hello all,

so I’ve owned my GBRF 50 pairing for a while, I had them running on DC and I think I remember them running fine when tested. However I’ve come to fit Loksound V4’s into them and I’ve had no issues with 50049, however the lights on 50007/014 only seem to work in one direction regardless of actual running direction. When I turn the lights on (F0) they turn off while running in one direction but not the other. I have swapped the chips over as to make sure it’s not the V4’s and still the issue was on 50007/014 and not on 50049.

Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it. Or is it a Hornby Job. Any wiring diagrams or fixes would be appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance!

    Chris

  10. I'm still surprised that there was never a 59003 GBRf livery one announced, even as a limited edition or an exclusive to Rails etc.

I think that one can turn up anywhere and can be seen on the IOA wagons Dapol are re-releasing and the cavalex aggregate wagons as well as other bits, and without a lot of work done to the Hornby model which is miles off, although I did see someone put the effort (lots of it) in to get it right. The Dapol release would go down well with higher spec modellers.

I think that makes the 185 a more viable idea, but so do does the amount of Northern Midnight blue stock, such as class 144, 156, 150, 153, 158. Whether the 185 comes from Bachmann, however....

Whatever Northern stock/livery is released always seems to sell quickly, I suppose when they operate such a vast area then people modelling anywhere in the north will want them. More 144's and 156's are coming from Realtrack and then Bachmann are doing a new 150/2 and Rainbow have done the 158, so there are some already out or coming soon.

Id be in for a TPE 170 too - in face maybe one or two of them, given the absence of the 185. Thats a gap that Bachmann should have noticed and hit first but as ever, they picked a few and then will sit back and do something more obscure again later...

If Bachmann were clever they would do the 170/3's and at a very similar time announce a 185 and capture what's left of the available TPE market seen as Dapol/Accurascale have got the TPE 68's, Hornby can do the 802's.

Looking at the design of the front valence, would it have to be a whole replacement piece? - it looks quite a large chunk of bodywork (buffer beam and everything below it).

The chunks that come off the 68 and Hattons 66's are of considerable size, as it's sometimes easier with the tooling if it's a bigger bit. Let's hope Hornby do the right thing here...

I expect they could do something similar to what Dapol did with the 68 and Hattons did with the 66 where two different valances come with the loco/DVT and the user fits which one they want.

That's if we think Hornby are actually going to do things for the modeller and not just churn out the first lump that they can.

  15. 8 minutes ago, 3rd Rail Exile said:

One of those awkward trade-offs I guess, for both the loco and the DVT - would you prefer a wonderfully-detailed front valence for "normal" running, or one with a whacking great hole in it to allow for the fitting of a coupling for "blunt end first" and "dragging"?

All Hornby have to do is guess which option the majority would prefer and how to placate those that disagree (there will be plenty who would forego the front coupling in return for a better front-end valence appearance).

Perhaps they could increase the cost a little by designing an appropriate blanking plate to clip into the NEM pocket if a coupling isn't required (assuming that the coupling geometry doesn't require the pocket to protrude in front of the valence at all).

Glad I'm not deciding that one, but I know which one I'd prefer, and which I'd be sorely disappointed with the look of...

Something like the Bachmann 90, would have been nice. I haven't heard too many complaints about that or maybe the detail pack will allow us to choose between a hole for the coupling or the bit we can see in the designs like the Dapol 68's have.

I’d love for Hornby to do a set with 43102 and an EMR red one, but as they are being retired in May this year Hornby will probably of forgot all about it by the time they come to announce next years models :)

I hoped Hornby would have announced a red EMR HST for 2021 but as they didn’t I had to create my own...

I'd be happy if they did a rerun of the blue/white EMT ones as they seem to be astronomically priced 2nd hand!

No, looks very much like the light apertures are level with the front of the body, rather than recessed with a single glazed panel covering all three openings

It would be nice if some of those grilles or door rails were etched, but hopefully they will be neatened up for the proper model, I do hope the buffers are sprung always nice to be able bring a loco right up to each other, even if you can only do it without couplings around.

I've just noticed that there is no NEM pocket at the front, does this mean we can't run blunt end first?

    Hi Roddy,

It will be towards the end of March if everything runs smoothly, so let's keep our fingers crossed they do not get stuck for weeks like the JSAs!

We will of course keep you up to date on any developments should they happen.

    Cheers!

    Fran

End of each month suits me fine, just after card statement day! As long as you don't release too many things in the same month!:swoon:
