  1. No, it was on a rolling road. I haven't anything to run on. I've only decided to build a layout a couple of weeks ago and still in the process of reorganising my house to accommodate it, so I'm picking up stock to amuse myself. So far...2 Super D's, 4F, "Peak", 2 car DMU and with whiskers and 10001. Thanks to all for the interest.
  2. That's interesting David, thanks. I'm considering trying a little toothpaste mixed with the grease when I get it, 'grinding in' sort of thing. Cheers
  3. Hi Guy's, I've ordered some modellers grease on eBay. I've oiled it and ran it for about an hour at about half speed. It improved considerably and at one point was humming along nicely but when I changed the speed it started to make an intermittent "rattling" sound. Thank you for the interest!
  4. Thank you. I thought about greasing, although I didn't know what to use, but when I opened it up it's a ring field motor, I don't see any worm. I've oiled the cogs that I can see. Not too keen on opening that up yet, I'm new to all this stuff! I bought 2 because I think they are a nice loco and were in abundance in my younger days around Springs Branch. I'll be using it on local stoppers (short parcels, suburban and brake) and some short freight. Fingers crossed! Cheers
  5. Thank you for the replies gentlemen. My cradle has arrived and I have the instruction sheet at the ready. I get the impression your not keen David.
  6. Hi, I've just bought a Hornby 4F. (I know, I haven't got anything to run it on yet!) Tender driven, not new in age, but never been out of the box. I've given it 30mins each way at medium speed on my rolling road and it's very noisy.. I'm waiting for my foam loco holder to arrive so that I can then lubricate it. Is there anything else that I may need to do if anyone is familiar with this model? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you John
  7. Mmm. my "D" is BR so you're right it would have been 8F's and black 5's and then the 9's. Thank you for the reply.
  8. Gosh, you're pretty !! Thank you very much, I am going to be predominantly BR (brought up in Wigan. 54/63, spotting days The usual mix of mainline, plus "the twins" and "Deltic". Lots of very long coal trains, hence the loco's) with the occasional LMS train and, completely out of place the P2 with an NLER train. I think the model is brilliant. Bought a 4F today.
  9. Hi, I'm new here, I'm just starting to build a layout (lockdown madness at 75?). I've just bought my first loco LOL, even though I've no track!! It's a Bachmann Super D. I'm not too far from the S&C and I wondered if the Super D or the WD Austerity ran on that line. I would imagine they did, they were quite widespread and there was plenty of them. but I've never seen any pic's of such. Cheers
