I have a question… how does one go about removing the central con rods on the Fell?

Well I’m satisfied with my Fell, however I’m a little disappointed that the central con rods aren’t removable as they said they would be. Does anyone know how the rods are attached so that they can be removed?

Well I said we’d be waiting til August; guess I was wrong, we’re still waiting! Ah well, if we’re lucky we may see the fell in a week or two. Not holding my breath though…

The newsletter also stated that the docking date was in August, as I predicted in an earlier post. Gah, sometimes you have to hate being right!

Another update from KRModels, apparently they're fixing some "minor errors" before they ship our orders. At this rate it'll be September before we see the Fell in our hands!

Delayed again due to COVID amongst the factory workers I believe. I thought we wouldn’t see it until summer! I hate being Right!

billy_anorak59 you make some very good points. I’ve been wondering if anyone took photos of the EP samples at the Great Electric Train Show. I was there myself but never thought to take any. If I had, some photos from different angles would have given us a better idea of how each of the models looks from each side. KR only took one photo of each EP sample from the same angle which doesn’t tell us much. Some more photos and video would have been nice, if only to show development progress if nothing else.

Oh come on gents, not this tired old argument again! At the end of the day if you like it buy it, If you don’t there are other options like kit builds. As I’ve said before the way the Fell is being modelled is likely due to viability and economical reasons. Having a box full of changeable parts would probably push the price up and put people off buying it for that reason alone. Additionally has anyone considered that the research materials might also contain minor errors? Nothing is perfect after all. most importantly, not everyone was going to be satisfied with this model and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I do agree with a lot of you’re points GWR-fan. I do wish KR models had communicated better and some more pictures and test videos would have been nice. We certainly got more when they were producing the GT3. Though considering what happened over on that topic, I wonder if that’s why they stuck to newsletters and facebook. I mean there were some unpleasant things said and plenty of naysayers saying the GT3 wouldn’t happen at all. Well jokes on them we’ve had two runs of the GT3 and some wagons now on the way with the Fell not far behind. Some people on this site probably also heard things straight from the horse’s mouth at events like Warley and the Great Electric Train Show. I was at the GETS in November myself and spoke to Keith and Mike. I even put a few ideas forward for future products, though Hornby have beaten them to the Turbomotive it seems and they had a lot of requests for it so they say. Of course I understand not everyone was keen to go, what with the COVID restrictions at the time, so face to face talks are not always possible. Then again it’s been some time since KRM did a livestream vid. Of course I say that and famous last words they do one tomorrow!

I see there is a lot of talk and a little nitpicking about some of the minor details of KRM’s Fell lately. Let’s remember that the real McCoy was an experimental unit and was subject to more that a few changes, sometimes relatively often. So how would a manufacturer go about showing that on a model? Well in some cases there are variants made to choose from or extra pieces in the box so the customer can model certain details as they want. However sometimes it’s not viable or economical to do so. Admittedly they should listen to their customers when they point out flaws that need correcting, such as the sound for the Fell which has been pointed out as being a little flawed. For those who haven’t ordered DCC sound, not a problem, for those who have and like to be precise and detailed in their modelling, I can see where that might be annoying or off putting. I hope KR does fix that even if I’m not a DCC sound man myself. In regards to model locomotives in general, no one loco is going to be 100% accurate and it’s better if you try to make peace with the fact there’s going to be inaccuracies for whatever reason. If you have your heart set on these models and you think you can live with one or two tiny flaws then make your purchase and I hope it brings you happiness. If however your eye for detail won’t let you be happy with that then perhaps kit builds are more your speed where there’s a lot of room for modification to your own liking. At the end of the day it’s simply a matter of personal preference. To each his own as I always say. And one more thing. I’ve noticed certain people complaining about the vague delivery time but to be fair it was never going to be much more than that. There’s so much that could happen to change it. For starters assembly and packaging probably hasn’t finished yet, then they need to book a container slot, then the container has to sit in port to be loaded on to a ship, then the ship has to get here and be unloaded, then everything must clear customs. Seems simple but there’s so much that needs to happen to make it possible. In my opinion Easter is a very optimistic date for delivery. I’d say end of May at the earliest with the middle to the end of June as most likely. Again that’s just my opinion, feel free to disagree.

Wow, those painted EP samples look spiffy! I ordered one in BR Black but the BR Lined Green looks smart too! Correct me if I’m wrong but it appears some other changes have been made to the body from the previous sample?

A Fascinating discussion and very interesting points on both sides. I think the 4-8-4 designation for the W1 as opposed to 4-8-2-2 or another designation, was an attempt to keep thinks things simple. Though, judging by the discussion here, I’m not sure they were as successful as they thought they were!

I feel I must register my profound disappointment in the negative posts in these threads. It’s just as with the GT3, only so far, not as virulent. I am also disappointed in those who keep crying out about accuracy of these models. 1) The level of accuracy you are asking for borders on the impossible on a to scale model. 2) KR Models is not a large company like Hornsby or Bachmann so there are limits to what they can do. 3) The models in question are based on prototype locomotives no longer in existence so some details will be lost to the mists of time. 4) Even the existing details and facts should be treated with a pinch of salt unless they can be corroborated. Another thing the constant nitpicking is sucking the joy out of the hobby for those of us who don’t mind as much as long as we have a model. And for those who bleat on about DIY kits, let me remind you not all of us have the time, skill or patience for such an undertaking. I myself have been waiting for RTR models of these locomotives for a long time and I’ll be damned if you naysayers are going to ruin it. So with the greatest possible respect, zip your howling screamers and crawl back under the ghastly little rocks from whence you came, and let the rest of us enjoy the hobby we so love!

Ah, the GT3 first run has been delivered, excellent! Now attention turns to the Fell. Here is the big question: Will the Fell be ready in time for Delivery this year or will it arrive next year? That, is the question.

Got my GT3 and she’s a beauty! With a model this good I can’t wait to see what the Fell and Leader are like!

Got an Email! My GT3 should be in my hands any day now!

Wow nice to see people enjoying their GT3, I’ve not even got an email yet! Still patience is a virtue... Yet the anticipation is killing me!

Just ordered a Leader! can’t wait, but I’ll be seeing the GT3 and the Fell before that and Hornby’s W1 ‘hush-hush’! The makings of my One-offs and Weirdo’s shed! Now I’d like to see someone do an RTR version of the BR 11001. There’s only a Judith Edge kit available and I’m all thumbs when it comes to kits. Though whether or not there’s enough interest for it I don’t know. Thankfully that’s what EOI forms are for.

Will we see some decorated EP samples at some point?

Either unlined grey with crest or lined grey without crest would add a dash of colour to the liveries so I’m not to fussed, but I think I’d go with a grey livery over black as it would stand out more. Black liveries are fairly common as many locos ended up wearing one as such so do loco models. Grey is far more rare, at least as far as steam locos go.

Wow! The GT3 looks amazing and looks like a good runner if the videos I’ve seen are anything to go by. Can’t wait for mine to arrive! I hope this will prove the naysayers wrong but there’s always a few that won’t be convinced... Oh well that’s always the way. Still I think they missed out on a fantastic model. Maybe on the 2nd run eh?
