  1. Hi all I am currently building an O gauge "The Lady Armstrong" for my North Sunderland branch line. I have come to a bit of a detailing issue, on where the two vacuum cylinders are to be fixed under the chassis. Can anyone help me with photograph or detail of where/how they were fixed. I have looked at lot of photographs on the web, but to no avail. Many Thanks
  2. My understanding is the science museum are not interested in having these sort of events/activities taking place.
  3. I am currently building an O gauge layout of the above, but I am unable to find a drawing of the goods shed at Chathill. Is there anyone out there who can point me to where I could obtain the dimensions of the building please. I have looked at various photographs, but would prefer the building to be more accurate than me trying to scale of a photograph.
  4. Thanks for the two leads I will follow them up.
  5. I always tin the brass/ white metal, it's the spread of tinning can be an issue in the confined spaces. As a plumbing apprentice in the 1960s I had to wipe lead joints on lead pipes and lead covered electrical cables, we used plumber's black but its a bit to course for model building.
  6. High all, About to start my next project to build a NER class o locomotive brass kit (O gauge). I,m wanting to build the locomotive that was based at Shildon, I understand that only one G5 was based at Shildon. Is there anybody out there with the knowledge of which locomotive it was at Shildon. What would put the cream on the request would be a photograph. Thanks for any help
  7. I have no problem soldering , I may say I am quite good at it even soldering small white metal parts. I can always get a good strong bond between the parts. All I want to do is to stop the tinning running into those difficult to get corners.
  8. Thanks for the tips, will try them on my next project. Regards
  9. Hi I use a temperature controlled set, which works fine, but it's those difficult to access areas I fine a pain.
  10. I'm finding that I spend too much time cleaning off the tinning and solder from my project brass models. I have tried Plumbers black and correction fluid but had little success, has anyone any suggestions what I could try. The large easy access areas are fine to clean, but on some of the difficult to access areas it's a bit of a pain. Thanks
  11. Hello all, need a little help please. I'm currently building a Slaters 7043 SCER brake van, and I am having a problem with the assembling of the brake gear. What I need is a photograph of the underside of the van showing/detailing the braking gear. Much appreciated for any help. PS it's O gauge
  12. I scanned 10000 slides and 5000 negatives, looked at a Nikon Coolscan 5000 but only available secondhand at a high price. So I purchased a Canon 9000 scanner, and have had great results. The Canon 9000 will do negative films and square format . A tip if you are scanning a lot of negatives its worth buying an extra negative holder, so you can load it as the scanner is scanning.
  13. I ordered a few things about a week ago, they have acknowledged my order, but not all items are in stock. They offered to send the items that were in stock and the rest when they are delivered to them. All appears to be okay.
  14. I have every copy of BRILL, they take up a lot of space so I decided I should put them in binders. Having looked around for a decent binder I was shocked at the cost, and no supplier was willing to discount 35 binders (planing for future issues). I wish the publishers would do a better index for the magazine, it's not a hard job to do and we could download it from the website. Currently the index system provided is for each volume, so you have to search currently 31 volumes.
  15. My school days mate's father was signalman at Heighington, and the crossing gates were operated by a wheel inside the box
  16. This is my first post, I'm building a South Eastern & Chatham 6 wheel goods brake van. The instructions supplied by Slater's are a little short of construction diagrams, is there any modeller out there who could post a photograph of the underside of the van so I can finish the construction please. Help much appreciated. Thanks
