  1. Hi folks Apart from the volume of potential sales, there is another issue with undecorated models in the UK compared to the US. In the US a significant "rump" of the hobby model small or imaginary shortlines. Undecorated models are very useful for them. In the UK there isn't such a tradition. There is another consideration: Some of the undecorated Sentinels will almost certainly be lettered/numbered to a poorer standard than r-t-r - yet anyone asking at an exhibition about the model will probably just be told "it's a Model Rail Sentinel", and may incorrectly assume that the finish on the r-t-r products is poor and be put off buying.... It's a shame, because I like the idea of undecorated models, but I can see the arguments against... cheers Ben A.
  2. Hi Grahame Glad you posted a link to this page on the N-gauge Yahoo group else I wouldn't have found it - haven't really got the hang of these blogs on RMWeb. Yet I had found the page about the signal box. This looks like a great project - good luck with it. I remember I was in Guy's Tower for a few days in the late 1990s and remember seeing the Pullman liveried 73 (when it had the silver roof) rattling through with an engineer's train, so there's another loco-hauled option! Have you settled on a track plan yet - or even a rough schematic - that you could post? cheers Ben A.
  3. Hi folks, They look much better in the "head on" shot. My feeling is that it's the protruding sections on the lower sides of the cab front that spoil the front end. Without these, I think they'd be much easier on the eye. I also think the sweeping curves of the livery do the locos few favours when the design is (rightly) so functional in appearance. cheers Ben A.
  4. Thanks for the info on the hopper liveries. Very interesting! I had heard previously that Bachmann had done a "livery that never was" on the JGAs but didn't know which - now I do! Another poster hit the nail right on the head with this layout: it really has a sense of purpose - ie with all that industry, trains have a real reason to be there! BTW Paul I know Darren Sherwood scratchbuilt in 4mm one of the Standard Wagon JGAs (as depicted in the N Gauge Society kit) a few years ago. cheers Ben A.
  5. This looks very interesting indeed. Any chance of posting a trackplan? cheers Ben A.
  6. This is a superb layout. One question about stock: I noticed that some of your orange RMC hoppers have "RMC Aggregates" in italicised lettering on the side. I have not seen this variant on the livery before. Do you know which period it covered? cheers Ben A.
  7. Yes - thanks! They have come up rather nice. Should have the whole rake running on "Ketton" at the Northampton show at the end of November, if you can make it!

    cheers
