  1. The first revenue through freight train from Adelaide to Darwin commenced its two day journey north on 15 January 2004. Photographed crossing 'Lake Knockout' on the approach to Port Augusta and paralleled by as special train hauled by Pichi Richi Railway’s narrow gauge (3’6”) former Commonwealth Railways 4-8-0 NM25 as part of the celebrations.

The freight is hauled by two of the four brand new EDI-built, EMD-powered locomotives built for the operator of the line FreightLink, FQ02/FQ01.

  2. So the Government in 2040 will buy every petrol and diesel car left on a scrapagge scheme ? .

Pure fantasy twaddle, until the electric car is viable they are living in fantasy world. The Nissan Leaf manages if you are lucky 100 miles on a charge = no thanks its useless, other than a town car .

.......and apparently if you travel at over 30mph in one Mr Stephenson's new fangled Rocket trains the forces on the body will kill you  :jester:

  3. From the opening post in the thread.....

    Hello All,
Thought I'd start a new topic - "Lines in the Landscape". As the title suggests, this is the place to put your photos where the train/railway is just a part of the overall landscape. Could be town or country - the railway might dominate the landscape or may just be a tiny part of it.

.....or is this destined to become another "what I saw on Facebook today" thread?

  4. I lived for many years (1964-1984) very close to Romford Greenline garage (RE), and it became apparent from about the mid/late 70's that London Country wanted to get rid of the East London Greenline services. The 721 operated in turn RT/RCL/RP and finally SNC. The service was always popular until they introduced the SNC which as Gwiwer says cannot in any way be described as a coach with their slippery plastic upholstered seats, even the RT's with their standard bus seats were far better. They had the desired effect from London Country's point of view as they drove customers away and gave them an excuse to cease the service.

.....and LNCs. EDIT - a bit from Ian's Bus Stop about their short lived life on these routes http://www.countrybus.org/National/LN.htm

LNC 42 on Route 721 at Aldgate on 16 July 1973. Only 4 months old at the time, it would only spend another 2 months in Green Line service before being reclassified for bus duties.

  5. Thanks for the link and apologies for this tangent - ........

No wonder there is apparently a growing sense of distance between "normal (sic) people" and "The Elite". Every statement feels to me like we are being treated as either dumb consumers or potentially insolent upstarts.

    Sorry for OT rant...

That's exactly what Pol Pot used to say   :onthequiet:

  6. Less than ideal conditions - total gloom, temperature hovering around 0C, intermittent light snow falling and the road to Garsdale closed beyond Dent station due to adverse weather conditions. However despite all this, 48151 appeared to make fairly light work of hauling 'The White Rose Moorlander' upgrade through Dent station on the Settle and Carlisle line - 20 March 2013. Unfortunately the Stanier 8F failed at Carlisle prior to working the train back south.
