  1. As a (very) sleeping member of this group I am amazed at the quality of modelling I'm seeing ! My only role is to share these great images with you here on RMweb and other forums. The pace of progress is quickening as Ally Pally approaches, here are some recent photos............... Kensington Terrace .... A gun carriage for the Royal Tournament ................ A 1921 Austin has arrived ................. Maybe the owner is off to the Motor Show ........................
  2. A good question. As the person who started this thread I would say that I meant privatisation era. The reason being that I was trying to publicise that my club had a pro-D&E outlook (in general) but when I looked at RMweb there was only a sub-forum for Blue Era modelling. So I posted there but the new members we have attracted in the last 18 months have a very current outlook which did not fit into the Blue era forum. I asked Andy York and he has hinted that there will be a new sub-forum for the current scene in the near future, but in the mean time I posted in the M&M sub-forum.
  3. I think all specialist enthusiasts can be put off the concept of clubs to an extent. Clubs tend to be based around 'the norm' and specialist minority interests can feel excluded unless a club makes a concerted effort to attract such minorities. About two years ago my club (Twickenham) accepted that we had no full-time hard core D&E members and we felt that it was in the club's best interests to tap into this developing sub-set of modellers. We concluded that we (the existing members) would have to make a firm commitment to building a D&E layout if we were to attract such modellers - simply saying if 3 or 4 D&E modellers join in the future we could consider a D&E layout was simply not good enough. We needed to say something far more positive and so a few of the existing (non D&E) members committed to starting a small D&E layout in order to show we are serious in making the club attractive to D&E modellers. To a great extent that need for a positive attitude extends to all sorts of specialist minority interests; at open days we often hear potential new members say ' I would join your club if you had a layout in .... American HO, European HO, O-14, P4, EM etc . The hobby is very diverse today and potential members want to see proof that their sub-set of the hobby is being catered for in any club they choose to join. So the purpose of this thread is to allow clubs that are positive about D&E modelling to advertise themselves to potential members.
  4. More people are arriving at Addison Road ............... A newspaper seller ................. He seems to have sold at least one ................... Is someone being chatted up? And this one is just a wall .............. but a very nice wall ............
  5. My new exhibition layout was originally built at a track height of 4ft 3inches but after comments from some of my helpers I have reduced it to 4ft. I think 4ft is the minimum I would ever consider. My layout is not targeted at children, if I built a layout targeted at Children I would build it at 3ft. As for wheelchair users I would suggest that show organisers allow wheelchair users in for free or at least provide periscopes.
  6. This is a thread for clubs which actively encourage modern D&E modelling to advertise themselves to potential members. The idea is not that it becomes a discussion of the pros and cons of D&E modelling in general but that is just a list of clubs that pro-actively support D&E modelling so that those who model the current scene know that these clubs welcome them Let me start by saying that my club - Twickenham & District MRC - does pro-actively encourage modern D&E modelling and seeks new members who model the current scene. We have started a small OO project ( 'EASTGATE') to encourage current D&E modelling in the club. The club hopes that this will lead to a far bigger D&E layout in the future. See www.tdmrc.org.uk
  7. Hi I want to post about the current D&E scene but under 'specialist interests' I can only see 'Modelling the Blue era' so where do I post for the current scene? If there isn't a separate current scene sub-forum, should there be one? Paul
  8. A quick update ............. Twickenham MRC's new D&E layout 'EASTGATE' will be on show to the general public for the first time at Twickenham MRC's 'pop-up' exhibition in the centre of Twickenham on Sat April 21st. This FREE event takes our great hobby to those who might not normally attend an exhibition or club open day. There will be three club layouts on display in total plus a 'Drive-A-Train' layout for younger visitors. All RMwebbers are invited along to see what TDMRC has to offer. Date : April 21st (10am to 3.30pm) Venue : Twickenham Library, Garfield Road, Twickenham, TW2 3JT Contact : chairman.tdmrc@gmail.com
  9. Just to pint out that you have posted this in the wrong forum - it's made by Hornby not Bachmann. Having said that it seems excellent value to me !
  10. Finally, after several weeks of fiddling about, the first (of three) children's playgrounds is finished................ As if to prove just how much valuable time I waste ... how many will notice that I have removed all existing street lamps, heightened them by 14mm, repainted them and replanted them?
  11. Absolutely, I totally agree. Horses for courses. All I'm saying is that a layout of the size of mine would not be viable for a lone wolf modeller without RTR. BTW as I model Chinese there aren't any kits anyway but to an extent that's not the point.
  12. Forgive me for not reading every post in this thread - I gave up on page 3 - and so my point may have been made before. I have been building my 26ft x 10ft exhibition layout in every spare moment for 7 years; my passenger trains are 16,15,13 and 12 coaches long and do (or in many cases will in the future) include fully detailed interiors. My 14 freight trains are all 15ft long. All my freight wagons are heavily weathered. All my structures are heavily modified kits - many with fully detailed interiors. I work 40+ hours a week. I have a wife and a social life. As a 'lone wolf modeller' all I can say is "Thank God for RTR"
  13. And this morning, all three Chinese men planted on the layout..........
  14. This morning ....... one man converted to Chinese This evening two men converted to Chinese...... And now here is my most ambitious conversion yet..... A walking European converted into a standing Chinese - sorry about the dodgy photo.
  15. One of the problems of modelling Chinese is 99.9% of HO figures have the European body size/shape and that doesn't look very Chinese So I am experimenting with the figure in the middle. Having cut down his legs and moved his waste upwards and changed his skin colour I hope he looks a bit more Chinese Maybe the difference is easier to see when standing up side by side
  16. Early morning action in spring of 2004 at one of the world's last REAL steam locations .....
  17. Hello I have been tasked to sell a pack of Alan Gibson hornblocks cat # G4M60 on behalf of Twickenham & District MRC. The parts are all there except for the instructions. Can anyone send me a scan of the instructions please? BTW - if you're looking to buy this item I have listed it on ebay this morning.
  18. I'm grateful to team member Al Turner for this ................... A lot better!
  19. Bristol show wanted a publicity photo ........... a bit soft focus, but hopefully OK ...
  20. Another website has reported that Fleischmann are ceasing HO models in 2019, going purely N gauge. Anyone got any news on this? Paul
  21. Good and bad bits today. Do you remember those two exercise apparatus I spent a total of six hours on last week? Well, I dropped one of them on the floor of my shed and walked on it and so it won't be featuring on the layout! However, I have glued the other one into the outside gym. It's now nearly finished ..... And I have been working on the children's playgrounds ...... not necessarily the final version of playground #1 but nearly there...
  22. Just to say that Twickenham MRC's new 7mm layout Addison Road will be attending. For those of you who don't know our layout Addison Road was the original name of Kensington Olympia before Olympia was built. Our layout will be operated in the style of the 1920's with both pre-grouping and early post-grouping steam in use, but also we will be running our own unique 7mm Oerlikon electric stock as used on this line. We have our own thread on RMweb in the 7mm+ forum and hope to meet many of our followers at Ally Pally. Here is a taster showing our Oerlikon stock in both LNWR and LMS liveries .................

  24. If anyone doubts quite how anal I am allow we to remove all doubt. I am making three children's playgrounds and have sourced parts from various companies including Preiser and Noch. Preiser are very delicate but in comparison NOCH is somewhat chunky. Here is the NOCH swing as delivered .............. 90 minutes later .......................
