  1. I am coming on a railway enthusiast's tour run by a company called THE RAILWAY TOURING COMPANY - maybe you should contact them and they could offer a visit as part of their tour. Paul
  2. I will be visiting Sri-Lanka in March 2019 - will it be available to visit - even as a 'layout in construction'?
  3. Apologies again for the sloppyness of my question. I had searched of course seached myself on line for example RS components and Screwfix and there were many, many options. and so perhaps the issue was more a question what constituted 'layout wire'? The Halfords option only came to me litterally when I was making the last post . Any way I have now tracked some down - thanks to all who helped. Paul
  4. Thanks for that suggestion, but sending off is not what I'm looking for, I need it today. I apologise that I did not make myself clear. I guess what I'm thinking of is somewhere like Asda, Wilkinson etc that do something like 'bell wire' . My local model shop does a 7 strand wire he calls layout wire but that's not what I'm thinking of . I'm thinking more 12 or 16 strand . It could be all one colour. - I need about 30+ metres so I thought one of the chains might do a roll. Or maybe a company doing motor accessories? Halfords?
  5. Twickenham & District MRC are holding their annual open day on July 21st. Venue : Kerswell Hall, Wills Cres, HOUNSLOW, TW3 2JF Times : 10am to 4pm More details of layouts, displays, demonstrations etc as we get them - but make a note in your diary now!
  6. With the demise of Maplin's where can one buy 'layout wire'? I'm thinking national chains................... Screwfix? Wilkinson's? RS components? I need something asap so sending off to gaugemaster is not really an option. Thanks

The club is building a relatively small layout in order to attract a bigger group of dedicated D&E modellers who can then tackle a bigger more ambitious layout in the near future - come and join the group and help turn that dream of a BIG D&E layout into a reality. NORTHWICK - our current steam era exhibition layout - it's been revamped and extended in the last two years - come and see the improvements! 9. One by-product of removibg the headshunts on the China Rail lines is that I have been able to extend the headshunt on the industrial line - which means that we will be able to sore (and run) one extra industrial line train. Photo shows the new long headshunt and the screwdriver shows where it originally finished.
  10. Andy Thanks for your interest in my problems. 1. What I mean by points being the wrong way round is that two points were throwing when they should have been closing and so I simply swapped the two point motor feeds around so that throw should now mean throw. 2. I still get absolutely nothing on the handset when I plug it (with no battery) directly into the DCS100 - and I think it should light up. 3. When I put a battery into the handset and then plug it directly into the DCS100 I do get a response. But I still can't access the point motor control - I press SWI , is that right? You will see that I have got the steady black dot but the red 'OFFLINE' light is still on - that shouldn't be like that I gather. My problem is that I/we sub-contracted ALL DCC issues to one team member and that team member is currently unavailable. We have only ever had one operating session with DCC and have not had the experience to learn its subtleties. The wireless operation is another load of issues which I will come back to in my post this evening.
  11. OK, progress. All tracklaying due to simplifying the fiddle yard is now complete - just need to bond across the rail joiners and I'm done .................. This now means that the two main China Rail lines (which will both be under the control of one operator) will be much simpler to operate - or rather the 'complications' will no longer be an option available to that operator. However, the REAL bonus is that it will make route selection a MUCH easier to key into the throttle.
  12. Finally managed some time back on the layout. First I plugged in the DCS100 and linked it into the DS64. I then plugged in the DT402D (without battery) into the DCS100 - blank screen I then inserted a battery and tried again Got to here................ Eventually got to here .......................... Then got out the wireless part................................... Eventually ended up like this ................ but still unable to switch points. I'ved been pressing the SWITCH button and trying to key in a point number - that's right isn't it?
  13. I have been given the task of selling on ebay a HIGHFIELD kit donated to TWICKENHAM & DISTRICT MRC. It's a body kit for an LNER SENTINEL SHUNTER. To say the very least it's pretty basic. Does anyone remember this kit? What was used as a chassis? Does anyone still have the instructions? Want to buy it? Look on ebay as I have just listed it.
  14. No, I haven't changed the point wires back. The DS64 is set up for PECO point motors and so there is only power (momentarily) in the wires when they are activated and so it cannot be a point motor issue I'm at work at the moment but will try this once I get home - thanks.
  15. The shed is so rammed that I am having to do the track alterations in the garden. Had to give up last night at 9pm - getting too dark..................... Back out today at 6am ................. damn cold, but another section laid. Have taken out eight points to make things simpler and less stressful at exhibitions. Less options (trains no longer able to change direction in the fiddle yard) but equally less stress for the operators................
  16. Let me explain my position. I have a big exhibition layout. I know nothing about DCC but was persuaded to go DCC and in particular DIGITRAX by a team member. That team member is now in hospital and not available. Yes, I plan to become knowledgeable about DIGITRAX in the medium/long term but at the moment I have so much going on that I just don't have the time to go through the 68 page manual and learn it all. I was testing some new points earlier this week on a random FY board just placed on the ground in the garden. All was going well. The points were responding but two were the wrong way round, so I unplugged the DCS100 and made the changes. But that's when the problems started. Here are some photos of what the handsets are saying. The DCS100 seems to be saying OFFLINE whatever that means... Here is the DCS100 set up for wireless operation.................. Here is what the handset is saying I then reverted to plugging the handset directly into the DCS100 All I was trying to do was test the points, I did not attempt to run a loco. Any thoughts?
  17. Hasn't Caboose Hobbies in Denver closed? The biggest model shop I've ever visited - if it has closed then anywhere could close.
  18. My new layout uses DCC but I know virtually nothing about DCC - I have had a team member who advised on all matters DCC. Unfortunately he is now in hospital seriously ill and cannot be contacted. I am using CML DAC20 modules. They are installed and there is no problem. They have a series of terminals to go to (PECO) point motors. Each 'control' on the DAC20 has three contacts - a wire to each solenoid and a return common to bothn solenoids - please forgive my ignorant terminology. My question is : Am I correct in thinking that all these 'returns' can be linked? I have to control two points over a baseboard join and I have a FIVE pin connector and so I would like to use four of the pins for 2 x 2 feeds to the four solenoids and the fifth pin as a common return. I hope that makes sense.
  19. Continental Modeller editor Andrew Burnham came along for a look and took some photos - here's my favourite...
  20. I think the steam only issue can be done with magnets. All I need to do is fit the steam locos with magnets and not the diesels. Make sense?
  21. I am resigned to the birectional aspect may be the stumbling block. But I have another similar problem but this time not a crossing barrier. I want certain locomotives (ie steam locos) to trigger a timer but not diesel locos and so I'm guessing that a magnet hung under the tender. might be the answer. Thoughts please.
