I apologise for asking a VERY basic question, but I still have left over from my British modelling days a rake of 20 16t minerals. On BR tracks was the concept of a train purely of 16 tonners a regional thing? In other words, I associate trains purely of 16 tonners with NE death steam; would it be appropriate to run them with western, southern, midland steam as well?

I have now received a full report in a private email and am happy that I have the whole picture - thanks to everyone who replied.

Hello again Nigel Any chance please of a photo showing how the track looks
-
Hello Nigel Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, I plan to use a Heathcote device, but you have slightly misunderstood my question. It is more a case of is ambient exhibition hall lighting sufficient to make these work reliably?

First of all a big thank you to those who have bothered to post replies and who have had to deal with my ignorance of Digitrax issues. I have not been able to deal with layout issues for 4 weeks for various reasons, but today I have been able to carry out some tests and discuss the results with our Digitrax 'expert' - Bob Perrat if that means anything to anyone - who is still in hospital but we conference called via his mobile. It now seems that the issue is that the DCS 100 is faulty - it's as simple as that. I am greatly relieved as it seems that I'm not quite as stupid and ignorant as I thought. Thanks again to all those who posted on this thread. Thanks again for everyone's patience. Paul

Hi I want to operate a level crossing automatically and I have found a module to do that . I want to use IRDOT-1 optical detectors which I have never used before and know nothing about. So my questions are 1. My layout does not have lights, so the ambient lighting is standard exhibition hall lighting. Are IRDOT-1 detectors reliable with that ambient lighting? 2. If so, is there a particular brand/type that is particularly suitable for OO/HO use? 3. Assuming that I want one of the detectors in my scenic area, do I have to have a huge hole in my track (3-5mm?) or can it be very small (1-3mm)? I regret I have very little electronic knowledge and so hope I have used technical terms correctly. Thanks

D&RGW On3 locos painted by Brian Coldicott for sale
TEAMYAKIMA replied to TEAMYAKIMA's topic in USA & Canadian Railroads
As regards the C&S 2-6-0 , the livery and numbering are 100% except for the word 'WESTERN' replacing 'SOUTHERN' - so a relatively easy swap. The C21 would require all lettering and numbering being removed. -
D&RGW On3 locos painted by Brian Coldicott for sale
TEAMYAKIMA replied to TEAMYAKIMA's topic in USA & Canadian Railroads
Yes, I would agree that a fictitious livery does detract slightly, but hopefully not massively! For anyone interested they are on ebay now. Here are some photos of the C21 ... And the C&S 2-6-0 ....... -
I have been working on figures again. This time I wanted industrial workers waiting for the passenger train. So I bought some Preiser ones .... This is figure # 6 showing one leg shortened .. Figure # 2 in the original photo is now figure # 3 in this shot and he has two problems i) if i simply shorten his legs his bag will nearly touch the ground ii) he is standing with one bent leg................. So I cut his bag off and straightened his leg as you can see in this shot .................. Last was figure # 1 in the original photo. The problem with him was that his jacket would become a trench coat if I just shortened his legs and so his jacket needed shortening too.... leaving (for the moment) just one European (guest) worker to be taken to the steelworks.

Hello, I had to sell my large ON3 layout a few years back, but kept most of the locos and some stock. My next ON3 layout will be an Inglenook type project and so having seven ON3 locos seems a bit excessive. So just to say that I have at least two DCC fitted ON3 locos for sale. They are both SOUND equipped with Tsunami sound chips, but most importantly they have been painted by award-winning modeller Brian Coldicott. They have working headlights and marker lights and cab lights. They are............... i) Balboa D&RGW C21 outside framed 2-8-0 - remotored and some added detail painted as #44 in my private road COLORADO & WESTERN ii) Overland C&S 2-6-0 # 22 painted in my porivate road as # 21 in COLORADO & WESTERN livery Photos to follow .....

Hi I'm looking for a level crossing keeper's brick built 'hut' and I'm happy to modify something so any small brick built building might do as a basis. I've looked at Shapeways sight but my search produced 35,000 possibilities (99.9% of which weren't anywhere close). And so, I'm asking if anyone has any suggestions .............. This is the kind of thing I'm looking for ............ Thanks

As I have previously mentioned I have a large stock of HO scale women/girls with their arms outstretched hanging up washing - you get one or two with every set of HO washing and I've bought loads of those. Previously I have used them in interiors like this student putting her suitcase on top of the wardrobe .... I'm currently a bit stuck as for various reasons I cannot get on with what I would really like to be doing - dealing with various route selection issues to simplify operating. Therefore Have gone back to detailing the layout. Found a young German girl in my spares box..... I have now Chinesed her .... yes she is shorter - and she even has shorter arms!! She is now encouraging her younger brother to come down the slide in playground # 2.

Hi Al Nice work - as we have come to expect. What is the slogan on the streamliner tender? -
Yes, that is a museum for established exhibition layouts , but wasn't there another one? I seem to remember photos of layouts being built or delivered.

Some years ago I remember several grandiose schemes for permanent model railway exhibitions - displays of excellence. Various 'big names' were put forward as backers of one of them

Hello Charlie I am the sales officer of Twickenham MRC and so I'm just saying thanks for buying this item. I have not yet posted your item and tried to contact you a few times via ebay just to confirm that you fully understood what this kit is and what it will take to motorise it. You obviously do as you are a RMwebber and have followed this thread. So I will post your item on Monday - thanks again.

Looking for these jumper plugs/sockets ... or similar
TEAMYAKIMA replied to TEAMYAKIMA's topic in Electrics (non-DCC)
I'm now ready to buy .................. I'm totally bemused by the selection and the range of prices - obviously I want the cheapest possible. They don't have to fit my existing sockets although that would be convenient. I'm thinking AV15043 and AV14502 - any comments? http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-signal/psg01585/socket-xlr-chassis-5p/dp/AV15043?ost=AV15043&scope=partnumberlookahead&exaMfpn=true&searchref=searchlookahead&ddkey=http%3Aen-CPC%2FCPC_United_Kingdom%2Fw%2Fsearch http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-signal/psg01334/xlr-socket-5pin-black/dp/AV14502?ost=av+14502&autoc=av14502&ddkey=http%3Aen-CPC%2FCPC_United_Kingdom%2Fsearch -
