  1. Closer inspection with a magnifying glass and I've found the split on the axle. Removed the gear and reassembled the bogie (with one free-running axle), and the loco is now running smoothly (with only three axles powered pending replacement of the offending axle. Thanks for your help.
  2. Identified which of the two wheelsets has the problem, although I can't see the split on visual inspection. What's odd is rotating the wheelset makes it "stick" once every three turns rather than each turn. Might the problem be another gear?
  3. Thanks, got both bogies off, and one is sticking when I try to turn the top gear with a screwdriver. Can't see an obvious split gear just by looking at it, though.
  4. One of my Farish Warships has developed that ominous clicking sound that I assume is a split gear. I thought we're got over this after the bad years of later Poole manufacture. How do you remove the body and/or bogies?
  5. Counted the number of mid-70s rakes of stock, and compared with the amount of WR type 4 power. How many Dapol Westerns can I afford?

  6. Did Laira have any Mk1 sets? I thought the Waterloo-Exeter route had gone over to Mk2s by the time of sector liveries. Caption doesn't specify the working; there were some odd cross-country working out of Paddington around that time.
  7. Especially for Steve1 Status Quo's finest hour?
  8. Touchstone - Oceans of Time Finally finished my review, and that one was hard work.
  9. UFO, The Chrysalis Years 1980-1986 (No Place to Run/The Wild, The Willing and The Innocent/Mechanix/Making Contact/Misdemeanor) Rainbow, Black Masquerade
  10. Touchstone - Oceans of Time. Anneke van Giersbergen - Drive. The Computers - Love Triangles Hate Squares. Alan Reed - First in a Field of One. Fish - Feast of Consequences.
  11. http://www.kalyr.com/weblog/music/music-opinion/now-playing-september-2013-edition/ And today, "Insects" by Breed 77.
  12. I can think of two possibilities. Either motive power spares for the depot at Penzance, or it was actually bound for Truro and worked to Penzance and back to avoid having to shunt at Truro on both the outward and return trips.
  13. Blue Öyster Cult - Secret Treaties Blue Öyster Cult - Spectres Blue Öyster Cult - Agents of Fortune Blue Öyster Cult - Cultasaurus Erectus Blue Öyster Cult - Mirrors RIP Allen Lanier
  14. Karnataka - The Gathering Light. Still a superb album, epic symphonic progressive rock at it's best. Judas Priest - Nostradamus. I love this album; Melodramatic concept album that isn't scared to teeter on the edge of cheesy. Fish - Gone Fishing, Leamington 2012. Live album from the 2012 fan convention. Can you say "GRENDEL!!!"
  15. Stolen Earth - A Far Cry From Home. Shame that band fell apart after just one album, though I'm looking forward to hearing what Heidi Widdop's new band Cloud Atlas sound like.
  16. When's the Hayle photo dated? I've seen a BFK on a Cornish local in April 1988, quite possibly the same vehicle.
  17. Maschine's "Rubidium" again - Can't stop playing this record If anyone's interested, I've reviewed the album: http://www.kalyr.com/weblog/music/record-reviews/maschine-rubidium/
  18. Maschine - Rubidium. Debut album by the highly-tipped young prog band, well worth the wait. Mix of prog, metal and jazz with some incredible fluid guitar from Luke Maschin Tinyfish - On Fire. 2009 live album from Poland Amplifier - The Octopus. This one's going to take a few more listens, I think Ascention - The Inner Road. Instrumental symphonic prog, actually rather better than it sounds. Stolen Earth - A Far Cry From Home. One of the best albums from 2012, very sad this band has split.
  19. Harvest - Underground Community. Mix of prog, indie, goth and folk, with definite echoes of All About Eve Shineback - Rise Up Forgotten Returned Destroyed. New electronica-based album from Tinyfish's Simon Godfrey King Bathmat - Overcoming the Monster. Very prog, but full of tunes. Like a British version of Spock's Beard Thea Gilmore - Regardless. A bit outside my usual prog-rock comfort zone, but a great album Black Sabbath - 13. Not a patch on their 70s classics, but still a lot better than it could have been
  20. And the second vehicle on the last shot looks like a BCK.
  21. What's the lead vehicle in the second photo? Is it a declassified FO?
  22. Iain Jennings - My Dark Surprise. New solo album by Mostly Autumn's keyboard player, quite unlike either Mostly Autumn or his earlier band Breathing Space. Sanguine Hum - The Weight of the World. Up-and-coming Nu-prog, with some similarity to early Porcupine Tree, Pineapple Thief and 70s Frank Zappa Tin Spirits - Wired to Earth. Featuring former XTC man Dave Gregory, but sounds nothing like XTC at all, closer to Steely Dan meets early Wishbone Ash.
  23. Saw here supporting Fish a couple of weeks ago. Her guitarist, Steve Askew, is from Kajagoogoo of all things.
  24. Lu Cozma - Lockdown Interesting mix of acoustic and electronica, and Lu has a great voice. Another review copy; this time hand-delivered by the artist, so I'd better not give a bad review - They know where I live...
