The unfitted 5-plank was a 9' wb ex-PO mineral wagon. The railway company-owned fitted general merchandise 5-planks and their BR-built equivalents were 10' wb; i.e. a different prototype(s), and would be a completely new wagon. British N has probably evolved past the stage where a single generic model can cover both.

I was thinking for the 123s here rather than the earlier 126s, I think there were only 10 4-car sets built.

I do wonder if their reluctance to do the Hawksworths in maroon is because most of the diesel-hydralics that will pull them are made by Dapol rather than Farish, and they fear boosting sales of Dapol locos at the expense of their own? Or is that just being too cynical?

Lone Star were just a little too far ahead of their time in 1960, but their two British-outline diesels were pioneering models, despite their rather crude mechanisms. Minitrix Warship. Though crude by today's standards and had dimensional compromises to fit a continental chassis, it was as good as any British-outline diesel or electric model before the 1980s, With its robust and reliable mechanism it was the workhorse of many a layout in the early years of British N Peco/Rivarossi Jubilee. Credited with establishing 1:148 scale, it was way ahead of its time in terms of detail and accuracy. A bold step for Peco for commissioning this in the very early days of the scale. Graham Farish class 47. This loco marked the point where Graham Farish went from a bit player to becoming the flagship British N manufacturer. In a different league to any main-line diesels before that point. Dapol 45XX. The entry to Dapol into the marketplace forced Farish to raise their game. Though the mechanism leaves something to be desired today, in terms of detail and fidelity it was way ahead of any other steam outline model on the market at the time. RevolutioN Pendolino. A game-changer in terms of business models, introducing the concept of crowdfunded models to the marketplace.

That's one of those charismatic models that may well sell (I'd buy one) even though there weren't very many of them, and are far less useful in practical terms that the far more mundane but numerous suburban or cross-country sets.

Don't know about the Scotrail one(s), but I don't think the NSE BG ever ran in parcels trains. Originally ran with an Thames NSE Mk1 set, later showed up in an inter-city Mk2 set with a mix of I/C and B/G coaches. Saw it hauled by 50007 in June 1988, which made for a colourful train. Later repainted into Incer City colours.

Were they ever common anywhere on the Southern Region?

For privatisation I'd suggest an EWS 37, or a 159 in the early Stagecoach colours. Or the TGS and Buffet in "Merlin"colours to complete the HST set they did when that livery is current...
