  1. Fantastic idea. I am looking forwards to seeing the truck.
  2. This is looking really good, I rather like that you have taken the micro layout even further than 200mm x 200mm. The rocks have come out well, is that a technique you have tried before?
  3. Really lovely work there, using a tarp as a backdrop is great too!
  4. Cracking work, the atmosphere is superb add a cold swirling mist and it is pretty much a Sherlock Holmes set!
  5. That would give a good engineering brick colour, I would be intrigued to see it tried
  6. I like scribing brickwork and then painting. A quick wash in your mortar colour and then dry brush in a basic brick colour before picking out about 1/5th of the bricks in slightly different shades. It is labour intensive but gives excellent results (embossed sheets done with the same technique work just as well. Being lazy I mostly use printed downloadable brick paper now though.
  7. The backscene has had a makeover: This side still needs some work to blend it all together.
  8. I will admit to being intrigued! =D The underframe detail isn't too sophisticated but it passes muster.
  9. A great back story, it is lovely to see the personal connections to some of the subjects, lovely modelling too!
  10. That is superb modelling,a fantastic prototype too! I love especially the weathering of the floor inside the vehicle
  11. Thank you very much! I must admit there are more than few advantages to being a 90s baby, modelling wing riggers rather than alu A frames being one of them. Do you have a picture of your attempts? I am tempted to try a more traditonal boat at some point but expect it will be a pair or single to keep the number of riggers down to 2. Carbon fibre objects do seem to lend themselves to modelling better than their Steel and Aluminium predecessors this TT bike being another nice case in point! In other news I saw something rather cool last week: Back to the cakebox, this image doesn'tshow a huge amount of progress but I am so chuffed with the difference the details are starting to make, the no smoking signs and adverts have made it look so much better. For a break from the cabin, I have started cracking on with the underframe
  12. Looks good, what is the plan for the backscene?
  13. The interior started with collecting and printing all of the interior signage I think that I need maps, warning signs and adverts etc, I even made one up for our favorite website! I think a laser printer would have given me sharper printing but it is otherwise pretty decent.
  14. Yes, it is Exactoscale concrete sleeper track with peco bits used for the conductor rails.
  15. Thank you guys, that is really kind. The A stock has been a labour of love, for many years now. I hope to one day finish my abortive "Rayners Lane" layout which I made in response to the P4 society and DEMU 18.84 square foot challenge back in 2007 and to make a full train of them to run on it. With LU being so poorly supported by kits and RTR, scratch building of some kind tends to crop up in LU modelling (part of the reason I never finished Rayners Lane) an invaluable source for producing drawings is: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/66598/response/170252/attach/4/Rolling%20stock%20Data%20Sheet%202nd%20Edition%201.pdf I have built a three sided backscene with mirrors in the sides so the train extends off scene a bit, unfortunately it isn't very straight so the effect isn't great at the moment at some point I will sort it. The next bit is the interior, amazingly, you can even find the seat pattern online:
  16. My car died eating up most of my free time over the last few weeks but I have finally got the main body of the train painted. I have underframe, details lettering and interior still to do and i might try to squish in lighting too.
  17. The wood effect you have achieved is stunning, do you have a "how to"?
  18. This is great, keep it going, the block work in particular looks excellent.
  19. Lovely model! Great idea too. I will nick that for future models I think however in this instance my problem is the compound curve above the cab so it doesn't quite solve my issue here
  20. Thank you Kevin, that is really kind! The bridge and cables took a while but being flat worked nicely with plastic sheet, the train on the other hand: I am reasonably happy with it now after some fettling but I am finding myself more and more tempted by trying the roof again using vacuum forming. I have an oven and a hoover in my kitchen, how hard can it be? =D
  21. This is really starting to come to life nicely. Out of interest is this going to be a stand alone bit of work or will it go into a layout? I feel like I want to discover the scene around it.
  22. The brickwork is stunning. The keystone with the date is very impressive and the fit of all of the bits looks very good. Did you use the CNC machine for the stones as well as the bricks?
  23. I had a go at making the roof today but the result was not great. The compound curve at the front looks rubbish. I am torn between continuing down my normal route of filling and sanding. Or trying something new and having a crack at vacuum forming. If I do try does anyone have any advice?
