  1. I have applied to be there on the saturday, looking forward to meeting some of you.
  2. A cakebox module layout would be amazing for shows. Maybe an option for the last theme before next years BRM show?
  3. I think this is a good way of keeping this going! I had better get some more cakeboxes in to mangle.
  4. I absolutely loved this challenge. Oddly i really enjoyed the canvassing too, I think everyone on my floor at work now knows I am a railway modeller. I even found myself explaining p4, 00, scratchbuilding and static grass to people who have never had a previous interest in modelling as the month has gone on. For encouraging wider interest in the hobby the timing coinciding with a certain channel 5 programme was good.
  5. All of this has left me with a hankering for a "Dads Army" themed layout.
  6. Amazing challenge I loved it! The voting was very difficult, five or ten favorites would still have been hard!
  7. Well... I really liked it. Given the time constraints the modelling has been amazing. I would still be laying track if I had started a layout at the same time the first show was filmed! They have managed to make what is certainly not a spectator sport into decent telly. Those complaining that it isn't a specialist modelling show are missing the point. If you want to see content aimed at the likes of us, dont go to prime time terrestrial tv, instead try Youtube or instagram or one of umpteen very good blogs and forums.
  8. This is looking fantastic, good luck with getting it finished!
  9. I have submitted (albiet with rulers rather than a box for demonstrating the size). I wish I had picked up on Bergmann's rather excellent ikea idea though. Thank you for an excellent challenge I thoroughly enjoyed it!
  10. I inherited my love of the "Metro Land" suburbs of London from my Mum who grew up near Harrow on the Hill station and it was this that encouraged me to start modelling London Underground. The site of this cake box however was almost entirely random;I wanted a bridge over some water for my entry and just searched around on Google on the long car journey back from visiting friends over Christmas and one of this bridge really jumped out at me. I showed my mum the finished model a few weeks ago and it turns out that she used to walk to swimming when she was young along the tow path under this bridge! I love the memories that models can bring back for people.
  11. I have just worked my way through from the start of this thread there is some utterly amazing modelling. Amazing work all!
  12. Thank you very much guys. I am really pleased with the sense of space. The base colour is Vallejo London grey which is then weathered using a random combination of browns.
  13. Thank you all, there are some cracking ideas in here. In terms of better, I meant a more prototypical track plan the current one was sort of made up in the moment and whilst it started fine, as I started to build the station around it I realised that I really hadn't considered how bits would be arranged. Copying a real track plan should mean the arrangement makes more sense as I slot it into the landscape. It also makes signalling less effort.
  14. Hello all I am after ideas for the track plan for an interwar GWR through station ideally on a double track line with a small goods yard of 2 or three roads. My last layout had the track plan below and I would like something similar but I figured with the number of knowledgeable people on here there is no reason the next one can't be better!
  15. That is some very lovely work nicely done.
  16. Lost for words, this just keeps getting better!
  17. This has a really impressive feeling of space. I cant wait to see more.
  18. Thank you so much that is really kind. I have learned so much doing this. It has been great fun, I think the challenge is a great idea.
  19. The original brief was: -Flat water -A small boat -A bridge -A length of London Underground track -Some A or S stock -Budget of £10 I didn't buy anything specially for this and mostly used leftovers. Other than the track and the terminal boxes the whole lot is scratch built which I am really proud of.
  20. This is lovely! I must have seen a coal drop modelled before but I can't think of one.
  21. C'est fini. With the addition of a small tree, my tribute to the Metropolitan line and Grand Union Canal is now in a state I consider complete! These are my favorite pictures: The full plan:
  22. Go for scratchbuilding. Then if you make a hash of it it won't have cost much. =D Either way, enjoy it!
  23. Just stunning modelling. The work on the reel is excellent!
  24. This is looking fantastic. It is great to see another very different box done really well. Keep it up!
