  1. If we need to run our locos more some of us will need to buy a lot less in future .
  2. Well it certainly worked for the On30 loco problem and it is exactly the same issue.
  3. http://wtfrr.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/Bachmann-on30-gearbox-problems-are.html?m=1 So a petition may be the way forward.
  4. No Pete, it is narrow gauge running on 00 track but there were serious split gear issues with many locos. I have seen it myself on my locos and have had replacement parts sent with no quibble at all.
  5. Why is it that the On30 locos are seen as faulty enough to warrant free replacement parts and not N gauge?
  6. The split gear issue caused a stink in the On30 world and Bachmann send replacements out for free including extra parts. This includes Bachmann UK btw.
  7. I have a tiny 5" gauge in my garden. It is mainly Maxitrak stuff. I did have a steam loco which I sadly Had to sell due to lack of engineering tools and know how. The railway has been going for about eight years and is probably one of the smallest ever made. My garden is tiny so it is just a small oval.
  8. Yes we have come a looooong way! There are compromises in OO as well as N to get locos round tight curves. The problem is that we don't all have massive barns to run our trains round.
  9. But when it is on the railway this will hardly be what we are looking at is what I meant. It is one thing looking at a blown up picture with a white background and something else entirely seeing it on a layout in action.
  10. Using tight curves even on larger layouts can be very handy for hidden areas and the larger locos look and work fine on the scenic part. It is a compromise worth having. I have seen this particular loco and it looks fantastic. Who is going to be looking at the top of the front bogie?

You can see how wars get started by Reading all this. Such massive first world problems. I might be in the minority but if it runs well, doesn't fail after a while and looks good, even if there are some inaccuracies I am happy.
  12. Agreed. In the flesh it looks fantastic and the sound seemed good as far as I could tell in the large Hall.
  13. A 4F with TTS sound had to go back recently as it locked up in one particular position at slow speeds. Probably bad quartering. The replacement had pickup problems. When I looked under the keeper plate it was absolutely dripping with oil. Not good.
  14. Lovely looking model. I do wish Farish could reduce the size of those pins fastening the rods. The US Bachmann locos have much finer valve gear.
  15. It has been reported that when the loco derails, it bends the con-rod due to the valve gear falling in line with the bogie wheel. The valve gear used on Dapol steam locos is very thin indeed and the joint on the union link and crosshead arm is fairly bulky. Would love to get a Schools but holding back for now. https://digest.Dapol.co.uk/forum/schools/project-managers-blog-ad/463-n-schools-opening-post/page2

    Yes there should.
  17. They didn't at first but this was corrected soon afterwards.

The Hymek is also like this.
  19. Thanks Al and Roy for the clarification. I think mine was noisier than it should be. The replacement is on the way so I will be able to comment soon. Cheers, Ian.
  20. I recently bought one and it is a lovely looking loco. Unfortunately mine sounded like a Poole loco straight from the box and this didn't improve with running in so I have sent it back for a replacement. Everyone else seems to have a silent one, so that is obviously how they are meant to be.

I just bought the Dutch boxset at Thornbury model show (Bristol). I thought these were exclusive to club members, but Cheltenham models had one on their stall. I must say that so far the loco is the best running Dapol I have had so far. No heat from it and very quiet and smooth.
