  1. After posting, I blushed quietly to myself, thinking: "the man has devoted his modelling life to the subject, it would be a miracle if he doesn't have it! - " Never mind, its the thought, etc., Tony.
  2. The photographs are splendid! The last one could be real. I've a picture in "*Steam near the Nene" of the interior: Lots of trolleys with sacks and packages; suspended lighting; and suspended notice-boards. I haven't a scanner to hand, but if the picture is any use? - although you might well have it already. Regards, Tony *A.V. Fincham
  3. Take care, Shaun! I'm still losing sleep over the nineteen guys who were killed the other day... 'Brothers in Arms kinda thing. You have to have done it to understand it. Regards, Tony.
  4. Jon, you're a genius... (And I'm still getting nowt done!) LOL Seriously, I know how frightening painting is, its rarely a joy. There's always that speck worry no matter how clean your work-bench is. I'm not patient with it at all. I'd rather a decent sable and weathering. Its one thing to daub oil-paint on a canvas and quite another to aim for perfection, which you are very close to as far as I'm concerned. For the record, I have a sound coal-sector 37, and that would be the "modern" image I'd go for, unlikely though that is. Regards, Tony.
  5. LURKING! :) Much as I enjoy it, I'm just not getting any modelling done due to my RMweb involvement. :(

  6. Does it bother anyone if a pm is ignored?

I was going to say 'yes' until I read your bio.....now I'm ashamed I thought that!

Yes it does bother me, more so when you know that the person has been posting on Rmweb after you have Pmed him.

Thanks for all the responses, guys. Interesting that my vague question was seen from both sides. As it stands, I'm with ozzyo. If someone is on holiday, fair enough, but when they are still posting, and I've given a decent period, waiting... I've just dumped a thread because of it.

  7. Its a lovely job, Allan. Given the amount of first class work you've done its no wonder you use more practical methods. Its one thing for an individual to spend a lifetime on a labour of love, but a professional has to be realistic regarding time, etc., There's nothing wrong with your version at all. Excellent layout! Tony. PS: What did you use for grass? Its very effective.
  8. On the contrary, seeing beyond the obvious limitations I'll say one thing, you were well ahead of your time with the vegetation! Shades of pre-Chris Nevard in the last one. Tony.
  9. I've liked on Youtube, but I guess that hardly counts for RMweb stats. Otherwise, I take your point about the ethereal way of the ipad. Tony. (Lurking? How I wish I didn't confuse this forum with a social-life! ;-) ) PS: Actually I had missed a couple. You are so prolific.
  10. Only an "image" page on bing. Typed Pempoul in and this is an example of what turned up. This is spring vegetation - very hard! Unfortunately the other images are mainly of buildings (wonderful though they are) and a couple similar to Jaz's post some time back. November BRM is the best source, otherwise.: - Tony.
  11. Imagine police-box hurtling through space... Danger lurks! (talking of which 'bye)
  12. Kirk's sea/estuary water is uncanny sometimes. My only tiny issue, and I've said as much online, is that his model which is lit by flourescents, looks best when his skies are grey, hence, no shadow. The bluer skies, indicating sunlight of sorts, would require some sort of shadow which is missing. But hell, that's splitting hairs with a vengeance! Otherwise he's as good as it gets IMHO, although Pempoul's vegetation cannot be bettered by anyone. Tony.
  13. That IS a compliment! The guy is an artist in his own right. His Facebook page is better than the website as he shows lots of his pre-model sketches. Interestingly, he paints his own sky backgrounds on lengthy canvases. I'll post just this one more thing, after all, this IS a Downes/Robinson thread, but I had to share Kirk's work. This show's one part of the layout's scale; the rest, interested parties can find online. Kirk and I do share one thing, though; he is too poorly to get much done at the moment, and I'm too ****ed by domestic health issues to get anything done. Sooooo frustrating! So enjoy your time while you have it, guys, it doesn't last forever. ;-) Tony.
  14. In case of complacency: - Troels Kirk. *The Coast Line RR.* < http://coastline.no13.se/#home > A proper scale: On30 Tony.
  15. BLOGS: Am I the only one who finds negotiating Blogs a nightmare, especially when mixed with threads and workbench?

I have no problem with blogs just need to click on the tab at the top. I do not look at external ones though. There is some really cracking work going on in them stuf not in threads.

Thanks Danemouth, JCL. N15class, there is bound to be something obvious I'm missing... more anon.

The main difference is that visitors to blogs can't post images in them. One chap almost took over one of my layout threads at one point so I started blogging but there seems to be far less feedback so switched back to threads. If only one could link them easily.

  16. BLOGS: How I wish there was a numerical list of entries, like thread-pages, allowing easier navigation!

  17. I disagree, Iain, looking at your work with 4mm garages you would do very similar work in 1/12 - 1/8th if you put your mind to it. There is a whole range of model and toy stuff to be mucked around with in these scales, plus self-made moulds out of carved masters for repeats, etc., etc., Its a different world. Wonderful, but very different. Regards, Tony.
  18. Wonderful as he is, it is worth remembering he works to a much larger scale than we are used to - something like 1/12th "doll's house scale" - if I remember rightly, and he only does dioramas, nothing working. Don't get me wrong, I've idolised this guy for a long time, he can make a magical piece out of an old truck back axle in a bunch of weeds (got a pic, somewhere) but the large scale diorama school is something else, we aren't comparing like for like. Allan, give him a large room and a commission to fill it with first-class 4mm/7mm etc., and he'd be lost, whatever the money. (Back to lurking) Tony.
  19. What a charming layout! An oval of delight. And first class modelling, too. I read your remarks about rolling back-scenes, an excellent notion, thoroughly thought out. Certainly, photographs could make it seem quite huge. Regards, Tony.
  20. TAMERIG CENTRAL - pictures please?

  21. Oh... brought a tear to the eye (and the memory of a Vespa GT's rasp around the North circular) Sorry Gilbert. Just a new boy, and tangling threads already ;-)
  22. - I knew that! Lawd, weren't we so YOUNG! Tony. 4/1/48
