From seventy two years ago, here is a rather charming letter of its day from John Binney to David Lee, which relates to the appearance of the last design of Siphons.  "Longridge" refers to Mike Longridge, another member of the group.

Charming.  From the days when the interweb wasn't even a dream.

I shall be at Expo EM on James Husdon's stand where the book will be on sale.

Tell Young Bill he'll be hearing from the N.E. triumvirate on his return.

Once you’ve undone the screw use shims to slide between the body and chassis to remove it, it’s a tight fit.

    Good info P.

Might be appropriate to drop this link in here. As discussed over the last six months or so; this is how my test mule runs. Drive bogie and motor is in the second car with the body off. Small ZImo decoder used before the sound goes in. At last we can see clear through the guards compartment.

Hi, did these vans used to work on block trains only, or were they split into mixed trains?

Two of the three with Batchelors branding. Batchelors came under the Unilever umbrella in 1963.

Plenty of photographic evidence of  them running singly or in pairs upwards. York and Tyneside was a good area to see this with Palvans (and vanwides) engaged in Rowntrees traffic.

  4. Very nice. The decoration of B782042 looks particularly clever with the representational evidence of the removal of the Batchelors plate and the blanking out of the XP branding but shouldn't B769951 have the end chalk board in the more common R.H. side position along with it having no handles on the doors?

If it comes in at a premium price in the same region of the vanwide then details like that should be correct.

Went to test run my DCC & sound fitted 37423, and to my surprise, the sound functions and lights worked but it wouldn’t move.  It worked perfectly a few weeks ago and now somewhat surprised that it’s decided to play dead.  Does anyone have any ideas as to why it’s decided to throw a wobbly?

Check that F7 (Drive hold ) isn't latched on. If F7 was switched to on with the throttle at zero when you increase throttle settings  engine revs rise and lights etc work as normal but the loco will remain stationary.

Try operating F7 once then driving the loco before doing anything else. It might save you some time.

With a powercab the default screen only shows function number condition up to F6. It will tell you in the manual how to check the condition of higher function numbers.

In tick over or cruising light engine the fan doesn't operate, there's not even water flowing through the rad elements at that stage.

Easy enough to arrange a cooling fan kicking in at a given loco speed or to run randomly with the loco moving only via cv adjustments.

Even on DC a small 50p voltage regulator could be arranged to power a fan motor independently starting at say 3 volts of loco motor voltage so that the fan will only spin once the loco had achieved a  certain speed.

Newport St. Trinity St. Station is beyond the bridge.

That's it. The now, fully rebuilt bridge is know as the "Skylink Bridge".

A ground level view of the bridge taken a few weeks ago.

Although partially hidden by a road sign, there are still a few buildings common to this image of the derailment.

The switches turn the cab and tail lights on and off

    On DC.

If you're DCC, and you have a recent decoder fitted they need to be in the on position enabling the cab and tail lights to be controlled via function buttons on the controller.

I was very pleased that there were a good number of traditional, steam-era, continuous-run layouts

I managed to get a phone snap of it in the morning sun streaming through the windows before the show opened.

For photographs, that morning sun was very helpful but the temperature variation on the track between that in direct sunlight and that in shade had to be felt to be believed.

I have no idea where the four small parts at the bottom of the photo below are supposed to go

Looks like the cosmetic mounting brackets for the centre section of the snow plough. Part no 82. Not needed on voyage dependant on your prototype.
