  1. I think it was discussed earler in the thread following some pics with the stripe applied right up into the corner. Your right about it being eminently "modelable". (I think we've just inveted a new word there). Just to hear some one say , "Tut, tut" never would have happened!
  2. and leading on from post 650... Double stripe on 16 tonner next to engine... must have sneaked past the painting inspector. http://flic.kr/p/9KqSgQ Just noticed a closer view... http://flic.kr/p/9KqRvq Porcy
  3. Yet another that I don't thinks has made an appearance until now... by , on Flickr Class 20 no 8124 at Ayr Harbour Oct 1972 by A. Wilson by agcthoms, on Flickr Porcy
  4. Highest 16 tonners in England? Not the best quality video about but interesting all the same. The 16 tonners probably being used to transport Dursand from Parkhead quarries. Interesting bit at approx 10 mins were a sheepgate bars the way of the Q6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja7qFqcrUao&feature=channel&list=UL And nothing to do with 16 tonners but interesting shunting methods with 13 ton hoppers at 9' 11" on this video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-8pHV2uauI&feature=BFa&list=ULu-8pHV2uauI Porcy
  5. To sort out the lights on my Clayton first I had a go at sticking some five thou plasticard to the Heljan led housing after I’d cut the front from the housing. Total failure as the light didn’t scatter through the plasticard as I’d hoped. MkII version was to solder 4 leds in series to some copperclad. To fit in the already modded housing and it works a treat. No resistors required as the four leds work perfect at 12 volts (I’m DCC) Might be a bit dim under DC until full power is applied. And before anybody says it… I know you shouldn’t series up leds but it ain’t going to explode and it works… A picture says a thousand…. And here are a few pics of my motor solution when it was in DC prototype mode. Works a treat… surprisingly… and clears the cab for a bit of detailing. Porcy
  6. And of the two nearest cupboard door wagons, the furthest away has a much lighter interior. Freshly painted??? Porcy
  7. Thin Stripe, slope sided; http://www.flickr.co...ank/5176039544/ and... a shiney Evening Star... http://www.flickr.com/photos/taffytank/5960942117/ Porcy
  8. Don't think we've had these two before; Neville's Cross cutting (Durham) heading towards Relly Mill Junction. Porcy D68xx Redhills cutting Durham 1968 by George of Dufton, on Flickr D68xx Relly Mill Viaduct 1968 by George of Dufton, on Flickr
  9. Is that Simon Templars Volvo P1800 reversing out of that lock up? Porcy
  10. Anhydrite from Long Meg to ICI Billingham was a large source of sheeted mineral traffic. ICI Billingam had (Still have actually.) an anhydrite mine on site at Billingham but it couldn't meet demand. (It's currently part of a planning application to store low level hazardous waste, a previous application to store nuclear waste being unsuccessful.) Porcy EDIT Found this following a quick giggle. http://forums.auran....nhydrite-trains And a further edit... http://www.settleandcarlisle.co.uk/downloads/content/additional/files/Long%20Meg%20shunting_v5.pdf this document reminded me of another traffic flow from Long Meg to Prudhoe. This till 1963, was another ICI fertilizer production plant. I seem to remember Modern Railways ran a photo essay on rail traffic to the plant. I think these trains used 21 ton hoppers. Scoll to page 4 on this web page: http://prudhoe.journallive.co.uk/2009/05/prudhoe-nostalgia-gallery.html and there is a pic of a MoT 16 tonner dated 1951. (Keeping it on topic...)
  11. More Scrap. Probably heading for Consett Iron Works via Tyne Yard... Newcastle by cabsaab900, on Flickr Porcy
  12. Two quarries locally to me, historically had problems with wooden wagons carrying processed lime (particularly Dolime) catching fire when the tarps split. It was one reason why, in conjunction with Steetly, the L type containers were developed. L type containers apparently had rubber seals to prevent the ingress of moisture but I've never managed to confirm this. So with me wandering of topic may I offer up these these16 tonners. http://www.embsaybol...oric/fws059.jpg http://www.embsaybol...oric/fws090.jpg Hope you haven’t had them before… Porcy
  13. The Design rights (The British Railway bits not C&O) were sold to an Austrailian Company. The BR roadrailer project was allowed to slowly die as folks with foresight saw that the Malcom Mclean designed Intermodal container was the way forward. The last rail test run saw one of the couplings fail which some saw as the final excuse to drop Roadrailer... Poor tare to load Ratio... High Development costs...etc etc. The two prototype trailers had to be modified after failing SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders) Inclination/gradient tests and the wheel hubs almost falling off due to wheel stud failure. The bodies also cracked heavily above the pivot mechanism. This all happened during their first road run from Scotland to Oxford before ever getting near a railway. Porcy Edited due to missing out words...
  14. Seen on ebay... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260991483587?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648 No connection etc. Porcy
  15. It is. Complete with an American accent. Dialogue could be a bit shaky though. Looks like McQueen must have shinned along the side of the carriage and over the tender to get int the B1 Cab but Mcqueen could do anything... Oh... and almost forgot! Phones (out of Stingray) is amongst McQueens crew. You get the occasional sample of his voice. Porcy
  16. Steve McQueen in the cab of a B1 (61378) at Liverpool Street and fleeting glimpse of a BR Horsebox and a New CCT being unloaded (but Robert Wagner gets his head in the way whilst snogging Shirley Anne Field!). Film “The War Lover†Catch it on BBC I Player at about 1:02:50 Porcy
  17. Note to Self: “Must read thread more thoroughly and in context!…â€. Here’s a link to the promo for the 1966 German Drama based on the GTR. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NukHiS5kYPE&list=FLLHmircDgeGGcjTqzh1Ikug&index=2&feature=plpp_video It was supposedly a very accurate reconstruction of the event but going off this video still I have my doubts. http://imageshack.us.../post30ze0.jpg/ Some of you might find the Cheddington image on this page of interest… http://www.trainrobb...e/ek5_89_s2.jpg Porcy
  18. No. It was a different shape. There's photos of it about on the web. Not to sure but there is film of it somewhere. It may have been in the West German feature film of the GTR. Porcy
  19. If I may take the liberty of correcting some earlier statements. First vehicle was not a BR Standard BG and it was only the first coach that was substituted on the night of the robbery. M31016M took the place of the “High Value†coach which was originally a Western region coach. Sorry can’t find its number at the moment. Make up of the train was: M31016M - Full Brake (BG) M30204M - Sorting (POS) M30289M - Sorting (POS) M30235M - Sorting (POS) M30220M - Sorting (POS) M30277M - Sorting (POS) M30214M - Sorting (POS) M30210M - Bag Tender (POT) M30275M - Bag Tender (POT) M30272M - Sorting (POS) M30247M - Sorting (POS) M30276M - Brake Bag Tender (BPOT) HTH, Porcy Edited to try and sort out the font size as AOL still screws up the formatting...
  20. Phil, any Idea of the legend that was written on the side of the Quayside Brake van? Thats the one that smashed itself up in the Quayside yard after running away about 1963 and it's modelled in your phots above. Cheers, Porcy
  21. From Alan Lewis's excellent site... http://www.flickr.co...c55/3546423887/ That further links to Stafford Linsley's pics on the SINE project. and a rather famous and often published pic... http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/JB3414-001/Hulton-Archive?language=en-GB&location=GBR Porcy
  22. Couldn't sleep... and a box van to finsh for a show this weekend. Still up btw... and dull crappy weather in Durham but it's dry.
  23. Thats enough modelling for me. Better get off to bed. G'night... (And morning all.) Porcy
  24. But Mr Hunt has just arrived in the Disco to assist... so all will now go smoothly... and Black Gill will be transported across the water (Well probably under it if the tunnel is open) without a hitch. The sun must come out if that old north east saying is anything to go by, "South Shields is the money side but North Shields is the sunny sunny side ..." North Sheels, next stop Porcy Mane... Porcy
  25. Or take longer by buying the 08 rods then having to shorten them...
