  1. I've always found HB very expensive and am not surprised that it;s been taken over as most of the stores have had ;massive clearance' sales on for a while now. To be honest the DIY market is a strange set up in the UK as you have B&Q and Screwfix (same company by the way) often very close to each other in many cases where Screwfix is cheaper. The Travis Perkins group which has the builders merchants yards Wickes and Tool Station is a very strange set up in my mind as I have found that the Wickes DIY centres are in many cases are cheaper than the Trade yards and Tool station has very limited stock levels. Also within the last year Travis Perkins has just opened a massive RDC alongside the M62 at Warrington so they seem to been expanding. I have found up here in the North Wales area we have a builders merchant with a couple of depots in Ruthin and Llandudno and for building materials they are cheaper and one can get good advice and help plus if you spend over £50 free delivery.
  2. I know what your saying in that statement but with a little 'thinking a fibreglass moulded fell would be 'very' strong. I will dig out some photo's of my Alpine mountain to show my thoughts
  3. Morning Jeff. Things move so quickly once you get stuck in and the glacial movement in the bunker has been very active over the last week and it does look impressive. I have been thinking about your 'problem' with 'the gap' and wondered if you have considered making a fibre-glass mould for your removable lift out section. I used this material many years back when I was modelling the Rhb in the Swiss Alps and found it a very good to work with. I first used it to strengthen the board joists and later an add on for a mountain top which was removable and very light and strong Just something for you to consider.
  4. ''Too late for culverts. Full-blown fell-related engineering has been taking place to alter the topography. A cutting has been installed - as per KL - and the double track bridge made for KL (originally to carry an aqueduct, then just a farm road) has been installed.'' Like it Jeff...... sounds as though an ice age glacier has gone through the bunker today The results do look good
  5. How about just having a culvet emerging at the base of the embankment and a nice scene of a stream forming a small pond and some tree's / shrubs lining the edges.
  6. Excellent modelling will follow with interest
  7. Excellent photo's especially of the station master's house being 'planted' It's interesting to see the detail that has been put into the landscaping of this as very often buildings get struck into position You will be pleased to know that following the building inspectors visit and the inspection of the footings you may carry on with the construction ........
  8. Happy New Year from Carrog
  9. Well I trust that everyone has had a Merry Christmas and if your like me taking the chance to hide out in the shed from the somewhat none Christmas type weather that we seem to be suffering. Very strong winds have been testing the new shed construction and I am very pleased to report that structure would appear to be 'fit for purpose' and also water proof too. I think I stated earlier on in the build that I have been mindful from the start of this build that due to my location strength was going to be an important factor. Well the plan was to get the gutters in place this week but I have made a health & safety decision and not ventured up any ladders due to the strong winds. Although it has not be very cold over the last couple of weeks I have certainly noticed the benefit of the insulation that I have installed and have found that a small oil filled radiator on a low setting does keep the man cave nice an cosy.... My youngest son very kindly found a nice set of rules for my new cave all of which would appear to be in keeping with my new found hide away ........ I will keep updating any progress as I get things sorted and I'm hoping to put together some of the building costs (roughly) so that every one else who is contemplating a shed build can see what involved . Happy New Year to everyone especially other fellow cave / bunker dwellers ....Remember Every Good Man Needs a Shed.......
  10. Now Jeff about the 'grass' if you don't get some growing soon your going to miss out on the lambing season and without that the fells are going to be very bare during the summer . Have you checked in the box marked sheep to see how many have been 'tupped' I presume you have been feeding them !!!
  11. Trains running before Christmas .....as promised ....Well done that man
  12. Yes and you never see how often the Vet goes to see the horse .......
  13. What a cracking looking layout having done a fair bit of track inspection work on that line in years gone by I'd say that you've certainly caught the atmosphere just right. I will look forward to the continuing thread
