  1. Good to see the birth of what will I'm sure be a an excellent layout based on a very interesting railway line many parts that are still in existence to this day. May I ask as to why you have gone for marine ply for the construction and not Birch ply which I have found to be a much better produce. I look forward to seeing the based board construction in the future
  2. Those 70's have to be the ugly ducklings or 'trotters' as I call them as in my mind they look like a blown up robin Relient
  3. Very interesting video . Truly shows the extent of the damage to length of the coastal route and how it is open to the wrath of nature. Frightening in many ways as a repeat storm could just undo all the hard work .
  4. Good project spurs me on to get some modelling done
  5. Ok guys we've finished the base boards .......... wheres the peco track......finescale or code 100... anyone ordered it ............. Yes I've put the bus wire in just got to put the droppers in
  6. I presume that the archives would have been at the main office building in Northwich in which case if one could find who was the services manager at the time of closure you might be able to find out what happened to them .The ICI old lags network is well know for keeping in touch with each other. I will have a word the a friend of mine who is involved with the Runcorn Histrocial group and see if he knows what might of happened to the records as I know achives like that very often get offered to societies like that just to get rid of them.
  7. your right here there is a likeness maybe the 70's should be called... Trotters' or Dellboys
  8. The shots of the old loco shed on the cowlyn Bay miniature railways really does bring back some very happy memories for me. there was a funfair on the town side of the railway too where many a happy times were spent.
  9. I would agree that the 'sticky up things' are a form of piling as they are too deep to be drains. When I conducted a track and drainage survey along this line back in 2005/6 the drains were either side of the tracks and there were outlets via the sea wall side. I did wonder if during the storm as to whether water had swelled up through the wall via these drainage outlets and had started to dislodge the track formation as there are several of the drainage pipes scattered on top of the track formation in earlier photo's. . From the photos of the damage to the upper part of the sea wall the high tide and tidal surge has obviously hit the sea defences well above the normal height.
  10. I really don't think he has anything to worry about that sort of money is just not going to be spent on a rail link to a remote part of the country which doesn't serve the south eastern money belt. where voters can be impressed
  11. I have a video of the track being lifted, includes last train all be brake vans on a survey train by the demolition gang prior to starting work. I think it one of the Marsdons tiles Will have a look this week if I get time and come back with the answer.
  12. Will have to 'pop 'down and have a look , mind you living in N Wales one doesn't just 'pop 'anywhere its always an excursion. Living at Carrog this could be one of the nearer model shops for me although perhaps Dapols shop is easier to get to at Chirk. Be good to meet some of the local modellers in the N Wales around as I have only lived here since January 2013, perhaps find out if there are any groups that meet up
  13. Excellent shots my good sir , the running of those first few trains starts to make that dream come true always an exciting time on a layout
  14. The ones moved to Croes Newydd would have been to haul the trains up to Brymbo Steel works and those at Birkenhead would have been used on the Bidston to Shotton ore Trains. I can remember seeing one working the Dee Marsh line passed Chester Northgate triangle heading towards Manchester / Northwich. Always remember it as a youngster being confused by the smoke coming from the side of the boiler . strange how things like that stick in ones mind. !!!
  15. Excellent photo's of Ashburton one can understand why so many people have modelled this station over the years.
  16. Crownline a small company that is so missed these days. What happened to all the etchings from this excellent range. !!!
  17. I think that this is a prime example of Hornby's muddled thinking ...... you do really have to wonder as to which direction this company is heading, and who is making these decisions currently. Mind do which year it will appear in we wait with bated breath. I did pose the question in the Hornby 2014 thread about ' why is this model in the Railroad Range' In my mind the actual prototype is very specialist locomotive to be in the 'play range' Personally I am made up with the news whatever the final finish is to be as it will more than likely require added detail depending which number one chooses to model. It has to be a better start then purchasing a kit version, If the chassis is the old one then I might have to think twice though, as a comet chassis would be the possible solution. (Hope someone at Comet reads this )
  18. Totally agree with you there he was one of the 'spice boy's that ruined my club Liverpool all those years ago
  19. come on give the guy a chance, look at the injuries in that squad if Carol was fit they'd by half way up the table. If he wasn't there as manager and the team were in the same position most people would be saying that he would be the man to keep them up. Its always the managers who gets the blame when most of the time its the players not pulling their weight. Also think the supporters at West Ham are not producing the right atmosphere to spur the team on , what happened to real supporters!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I gather that the sweeping lines were not just on the layout !!!
  21. Just picked up this thread and have to say if this is your first layout build its excellent. Think you have been well bitten by the bug !!!!! Like the weathering it makes the scene come to life Well done
  22. The shot of Llandrillo is interesting as it's a timber yard now which I regularly get set to collect fencing materials with the Haulage company I work for. Only the goods shed is left now, probably in original condition but has had a metal shed added where the fencing material get tantalised. Keep the pictures coming rarely enjoying them
