  1. Yes. Although my three HD still run very well fifty years on
  2. Be careful of the light pods on the ends of the footplate they are very delicate I damaged one whilst prising out a rather well glued in hand rail.
  3. I found an old Hornby R8073 setrack point not sure how old it is or if the newer Hornby track is any different and how much it differs from the older R612/3 points . The Sentinel will traverse over it but not at dead slow speed and the heavy motor end drops into the frog. If you need a points that radius then I think the Peco equivalent might be better but couldn't find one of those. I compressed the video to MP4 makes it a bit jerky, It's not the model which runs very smoothly.
  4. One NCB on ebay from Ace models Eastleigh and a few red Esso ones.
  5. Nothing wrong with Nellies quality, fidelity yes. It has crisp mouldings and there are probably still quite a few still running after fifty years.
  6. Yep it would be good to see some more industrials. Now Hornby have had the balls to make one I hope it sells well and they make some more, a small Peckett to give some steam balance and maybe a few more of my Nellies will be retired to standby duties.
  7. One of mine arrived today. I am very impressed. The photos don't really do justice to the model. The glazing doesn't look any worse to the naked eye than other models, nice touch the etched radiator grill and yes they are spray painted. But the really impressive bit is the performance, this thing will creep along barely imperceptibly and handle 10 Triang Cemflos, 11 and it stars to slip getting away, It seams quite happy over Peco elecrofrog points but I think insulfrog might be a problem and I doubt if the tiny flywheel will help that much. As Daddyman said the frame side sheets joint it the biggest let down again not so visible to the naked eye but as the frame is die cast I would have thought it would have been an awkward job the cast them in one piece. New Sentinal meets one of the old stalwart Nellies.
  8. Yep just take it back. It was obviously fitted at some point and if you cant find it in the box or on the carpet, then it was broken by mishandling either when it was packed at the factory or at the shop if it was test run.
  9. No it's just not on the ones people want.
  10. I thought it was an oil drum as it wasn't unusual for industrials to carry extra fuel or even lubricating oil if the motor was a heavy drinker
  11. They where designed so they could be turned if necessary on wagon turntables
  12. I hope someone does, all mine will be repainted, some Sentinal and RR plates or even transfers would be the finishing touch.
  13. Mine too, nice of Hattons to upgrade to next day delivery. Not given it a good inspection yet but looks very nice and what a nice runner, straight out of the box will crawl along so as you hardly know it's moving with just a slight hum.
  14. And the toddler taking a tumble over the rail.
  15. Hattons have just notified me R3162A have landed and on it's way.
  16. Yay, we need pictures. I doubt if my six will turn up before Christmas.
  17. The Bachmann LMS twins are unpainted plastic.
  18. If it starts smoothly with your speed controller there is not really any need to add diodes, you are applying a variable voltage from 0-12V with your controller just use that to regulate the speed. I fitted some diodes to my 09 shunter all it did was make it start a bit further up the regulator but no effect on top speed.
  19. I think so too. I have used Jadlem for quite a bit of Scalextric and have always had good service and quick response in the past.
  20. I asked them the same question yesterday not had a reply back from them yet.
  21. Same with me, why they can't do a non sound one as well is beyond me. Mind you looking at the join for the nose end I'm not that impressed anyway.
  22. Where did you manage to find the gears? Those motors don't seem to be any more powerful but they do improve the slow starting and speed.
  23. Once Hornby have given you the voucher they have effectively paid you for the model, they then own it. They are not going to give it back to you so it can go through the system again.
