  1. It doesn't say opening. It says open or closed more likely separate open or closed vents to be user fitted.
  2. Probably why they are making one with a departmental number.
  3. Easier with a 1.5mm drill and 10BA screw, done a long time ago as it didn't like having the buffers with a gap I could drive a Morris Minor through.
  4. I know exactly what you mean. The point is the majority of us use flexible couplings for compatibility, convenience in ease of uncoupling or automatic uncoupling. If I buy a British outline RTR stock I want it to be compatible with existing stock, not to buy extra couplings and not to tie up other stock with different couplings at each end as converter vehicles to stock that doesn't have CCM.
  5. I am quite aware how well close coupling can work and on a vehicle with bogies driving the CCM they will work with tension lock couplings. The point is that with a four wheeled vehicle this design of CCM doesn't work with tension lock couplings and the coupling distance is worse than standard plain or NEM couplings as it doesn't work as a CCM. A bar would make them work properly but Bachmann haven't supplied a suitable coupling with this or the Mk1horse box only the tension lock coupling, which if like me you don't want semi permanently coupled rakes and prefer to make up and break rakes using standard couplings the CCM should be able to work correctly with the supplied couplings.
  6. As you have quoted me where did I say that?
  7. So why fit them when they won't work properly with tension lock couplings which the majority of users will be using and not supply the rigid bar if you want to use it?

    Hornby P2

Yes he did but Mr Ellson the civil engineer wasn't keen but allowed a trial so he borrowed a P2 from his old guv where it stayed as 11D1 eventually receiving BR lined blue.
  9. Actually what under frame detail Lima did do I don't think it was that bad, some of it better proportioned, especially that brake lever. Apart from the lack of flush glazing the Lima model one is quite well done. Not sure why they bother fitting close coupling with only marginal gain in distance between the buffers from the old Hornby metal couplings and mine just sit in the extended position after they have gone round a curve making the gap even worse.

    Hornby P2

They where pre fitted on the Railroad version.

    Hornby P2

So what's wrong with it then? Looks straight to me.

    Hornby king

Your forgetting DJM's model is a commision by Hattons unless there is some other agreement only available from Hattons. If Hornby are going to do one I expect it will be available nationwide for shops to sell to the average punter who may have never heard of Hattons.

    Hornby P2

I cured my drop with a packing washer, one Peco fibre 1/8 axle spacer worked well.

    Hornby P2

Why? Bachmann fit 3 pole motors nobody howls foul.

Not sure about £25 extra but yes cost.

    Hornby P2

It was turned around and driven into frame, it has normal quartering.

    Hornby P2

After leaving Dartford at 8.28 this morning mine's been Yodeling around Kent all day. It arrived an hour ago. So some quick pictures. A quick test run found it smooth straight out of the box not quite as creamy acceleration as the 5 pole skew wound motors but will give a good Bachmann a run for it's money. No problem with 10 coaches and handles Peco streamline 100 points without problem.

    Hornby P2

My Railroad P2 has been sent by Hattons today so they must be getting in the shops by now.
  19. Would it have been for better to get more people signing up too offer two alternative loco numbers for each livery like you have with the blue ones? I'm pre yellow warning panel but can only sign up for one model unless I want to buy two and renumber one.
  20. It is correct, see page 46
  21. Hornby seemed to have managed it. Should I have not expected something of similar quality from Bachmann?
  22. Doesn't explain why the 3F didn't have tender pick ups either. It is a great shame the first Southern locomotive from Bachmann for decades had to be their version of design clever with that stuffing great slot in the firebox, moulded handrails and those tender brake shoes really rub with me.
  23. I wouldn't say it is particularly large.
