  1. Hi Jesse, Thanks, glad you're enjoying the topic. As for picture uploads I was put on the right course some years ago by a fellow RMWeb member, I think it was Mick of Donington Road. There is a free program called PIXResizer, simply download the program create a file source to select the images you want to resize ( I created a file called 'To Resize') then similarly create a destination source (I created a file called 'Resized'.) You then load up your choice of images and move them to the 'To Resize' file, open PIXResizer and slide the size bar to around 1200-1500 then click 'Save pictures'. Its as easy as that. Then just upload from the Resized folder to RMWeb as normal. Hope that helps.
  2. Thanks Mick, nice to see you keeping an eye on things
  3. That sounds quite an interesting concept. I will give a few wagons a go to see how they perform, many thanks for the info. I did produce an Instanter type etch for the Anhydrite fleet and also used them on several old TTA tanks and LIMA parcels vehicles to rid them of those very large ugly bars, they look and work okay but do not close up on reversing, the Americans have it right as all stock is standardised, one day maybe!
  4. Hi Ade, Good question, the running has certainly improved as the problems of over-riding couplings on the downward slope and slipping of heavy trains on the upward slope have now gone is a real bonus, another positive is the minimum radius is now whatever the Medium Radius Peco point is (used in the north fiddleyard) and so can possibly buy another Deltic and DP2 as they would not negotiate the spiral at all. There is a lot of messing about with stock due to the two fiddleyards being vastly different in size but I shall have to live with it.
  5. Well spotted Ade! The 9F has had extremely light weathering attention and the tank is as bought (for now). The 9F is currently the only double chimney version in the fleet.

Almost missed these! Most of the new brick now painted with basic brick red, much more detailing to do during the week guys!
  7. Hi all, In between working on 'Bermuda Road' I managed a little time to run a few timetabled trains earlier today Standard Class 5 4-6-0 73158 has charge of the 7P51 05.25 Walton Old Yard to Carlisle mixed freight which passes Dent around 08.35 Heading south around 08.48 is the 07.15 Carlisle - Oxley Wolverhampton cattle train The Class 3 fully fitted Cattle train is hauled by WD 2-8-0 90445 Northbound in charge of the 8S50 Grange Junction - Rutherglen tank train is BR 9F 2-10-0 92211 The train has an ex:works 9F hauling one of the new 100t bogie tank wagons recently introduced Busy northbound traffic at this time of day as we find another heavy working this time its steel pipes, girders, tanks etc. The train 7M31 Hunslet - Carlisle is hauled by a pair of Type 2's, the train loco is BR Sulzer Type 2 D5087 piloted by BRC&W Type 2 D5317. The time is now 09.00 This train is all 3 link couplings which looks much better without the 12-15mm gap between the buffers, only thing is it takes ages to set up! That's it for now guys.

    Bermuda Road MPD

Hi all, Had a busy weekend working on the MPD building This was the position last week This was the old 'quick fix' annexe section added which I intended to change soon after it was made...……….that was 7 years ago! I decided to split the annexe into two sections this time This will be the staff entrance Once all the windows are in position the facing brick is clamped on in order to mark out the apertures Held up to the daylight just a quick pencil line does the job Brickwork added plus cills and lintels, windows given a 1st coat of MR crimson The two buildings comprise on the left a stores entrance and loading bay (large aperture) which will have sliding doors, double window is the dreaded foremans office followed by the signing on office. The second building is a toilet block. General undercoat applied and window frames have 1st coat of crimson Thin undercoat to almost all new brickwork, I don't want to overfill the mortar lines at this stage. Still lots to do so keep looking in guys.
  9. Hi Martyn, I saw this loco a few weeks ago and could not readily identify it so guessed it must be a pre-grouping beast, then by chance at the weekend a guy explained that it was a Hunslet saddle tank converted to a tender loco so I presume it was an industrial type J94 as the wheelbase looks right for a J94 - I think?! Nice to see some originality however I feel the tender sort of overshadows the loco due to its length, it could have done with being about 18" shorter me thinks! When is Crinan out next?
  10. Couldn't agree more Scott, I almost missed this as I was captivated by the stonework!
  11. Hi all, Not a lot to report on DENT as Bermuda Road is taking the limelight at present. Took a trip over to the York show on Sunday where a couple of layouts were worth a lingering look, (pics on Bermuda Road) on the way back we called at the East Lancs Railway where a Class 45 and 47 were running with the converted Hunslet as the only steam presence. Hope you like. Here's a taster of what was at York, fabulous stonework all painted with Humbrol enamels (why does mine not turn out like this eh!!??)

Over the weekend I have been busy working on the (steam) loco shed replacing the old Superquick brick paper with SE Finecast English Bond Plasticard Yesterday evening I revamped the 'gaffer's' office bay window structure and will post photos of this later At the York show York Modelmaking had their stand so I bought 3 packs of the roof slates (same as I used on DENT) ready to tackle the saw-tooth roof area once the main detailing on the building is complete. On the way back from York we called in at the East Lancs Railway for an hour to fine a class 45, class 47 and the converted Hunslet running, will post pics on my DENT thread later today.

Hi all, Had a trip out to the York show on Sunday and here are a few shots taken for the detail rather than the trains Fabulous stonework detail on this layout achieved with Humbrol enamels Some fantastic rolling stock to drool over on this layout. I won't mention the signalling …….Oops already have - fabulous!

Hi James, Many thanks, I could not believe it myself, its been 7 years in storage and to be honest its only cosmetic work that's required which is a bonus. Don't forget its booked for the Poynton show in September so you could see it there if you have the chance.

    Bermuda Road MPD

Hi all, Had a busy week or two on Bermuda Road, several tidying up jobs and repairs completed plus a few modifications... This scratchbuilt yard lamp was damaged and had a missing top shade, I fabricated a replacement from brass and fitted a new GOW bulb. Next the revised fiddleyard board had the track laid last weekend and today was the turn of connecting it to the layout A full strip of copperclad bridges the gap between the layout and the turntable with a pair of sliding bar connectors to line up each track (notice I forgot to take a photo with them lined-up DOH!) This Gaugemaster uncoupler has been fitted on a trial basis to evaluate if suitable, it will be painted to resemble a boarded walkway crossing and several other will be installed should it be successful. Next main project will be the renovation of the Loco Shed building... I made this Northlight roof building around 20 years ago from 6mm Birch ply and although its still looks pretty good I want to update the printed brickwork for Plasticard among other improvements. (Drainpipes are not required on this side as it faces a wall.) The two outer doors are vulnerable so have been put aside, the inside will also have the brickwork replaced and painted black at the bottom and white above, hopefully the interior lighting will show up better when this is done. The rear annexe will be completely rebuilt in Perspex with Plasticard brick detail to match. The roof will be refurbished with York Modelmaking slates which I have used previously on DENT to good effect. That's it for now guys.
  16. Hi all, Another quiet spell on Dent due to work on Bermuda Road, also this weekend my mate and I went to S&J in Northwich then on to the Littleborough show in order to pick up some SE Finecast Plasticard sheets, we also found a gem of an old bookshop around the corner which had a good collection of railway titles. Just to ensure everything was still working I ran a train...…. This is the 06.30 from Carlisle to Washwood (Birmingham) and today was hauled by Ex:LNER K1 62064 I know some of you like some detail of the goods conveyed so here are the interesting bits.... Steel tubes followed by a selection of Insulated Meat vans Steel coil wagons converted from 7 plank wagons with DUHA coil loads (details can be found in previous postings) Conflats with 'L' type containers, only the last wagon has restraining chains as yet, I am intending to produce some etchings as soldering 5 separate pieces to form one chain is simply boring! Finally a DUHA steel barrel load mounted on a Salmon wagon (Cambridge kit) That's it for now, I'm off to update Bermuda Road.

    Bermuda Road MPD

Hi all, A very successful day was had yesterday, my mates came round and we set-up the layout outside on the patio, plugged all the leads in and gave the whole thing a thorough testing. The only faults found were a couple of isolation areas were NOT isolating - DOH!! Only other fault was about 4 point motors completely failed to operate, these are the common PECO solenoid type, now one I would say could be faulty but not 4, so some manual action combined with a spray of electric spray 'Servisol' and all was well. Fabulous! Not bad for a layout laid up for almost 7 years. I also made some notes of items needing repairs or modifying so I have a little list to get through over the coming weeks however there is nothing raising any concerns so all should be ready easily for Poynton in September. Here are a few pictures of the layout set-up yesterday. I need to make a few more columns for the gap in the retaining wall. This street requires proper lamps fitting Just some scenics to revamp in this view Again scenics refurb is about all I have lost a factory entrance gate! Scenics on this board and the isolation fault to rectify At the rear of the building the offices and stores section will be rebuilt Bit of scenics again I'm considering renewing the town roadway on the right The yard lamp in the foreground has lost its hood and has a fault so need to fabricate a new brass hood and probably renew the 'grain of wheat' bulb. The wall on the left was broken so this new section was cast and painted last week and just needs weathering. Scenics refurb and wire in the street lamps Nothing of note in this view Revival of the bushes is on the cards I never fitted any of the backscene items but they will be checked well before the Poynton show. So all in all a busy weekend and the weather played ball for a change. That's it for now guys.
  19. Hi all, Managed a little bit of a play earlier today after working on Bermuda Road. Class 25 D7645 heads north with a partially fitted freight. In the background is my latest acquisition a Hornby 4F, in comparison the the Bachmann it takes off like a rocket so will have to use it on heavy loads to keep the pace down. Heading south we find BR Std Class 2MT 78018 in charge of a CM+EE working. That's it for now guys, back to Bermuda Road until the weekend!

    Bermuda Road MPD

Yes, this was one of my usual type of layout with loads of points and plenty of interest both on and off the railway, Dent was built as a complete change with the idea of 'just watching the trains go by' taking precedence which it certainly does however, having now resurrected Bermuda Road I'm quite eager to see it with a good stock of loco's plying back and forth. I'm currently working on some working signals as the layout originally only had dummy versions, not the easiest job and a bit tedious too! Thanks for looking in, sorry I never got to play on Dent today, the weather being fine gave me the chance to clean up the patio in readiness for the big test of Bermuda Road next Saturday - weather permitting.
  21. Hi guys, Sorry, nothing of note done on Dent this week apart from a little further work on the 8 Anhydrite wagon conversions, in honesty I have been busy with Bermuda Road as it now has an exhibition booking at the Poynton Nr. Stockport show on 14th + 15th September. I'm really looking forward to getting back on the exhibition circuit. Also Bermuda Road is provisionally booked for next years Haywood show so its all happening. Most Bermuda Road updates will now be concentrated on the dedicated layout topic page: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/25434-bermuda-road-mpd/ I may be having a play tomorrow on Dent! Just love Mark's stock detailing even the ugly duckling!

    Bermuda Road MPD

Hi guys, Well a week has passed and a lot has happened. I have set up the front three sections which is all I have room for in the side passageway, this will give me the chance to get started on a few repairs and modifications such as wiring up the street lighting, most of the lights are in position but the wires were not connected. The other good news is that the layout is booked for the POYNTON Nr. Stockport exhibition on 14th & 15th September so that gives me 6 months to fettle the layout one board at a time. Weather permitting my mates are coming round next Saturday to set the whole layout up on the patio to ensure the electrics are as they should be. I also have a provisional booking for Heywood next year. In the meantime here is the current situation... The front viewing face is assembled under cover in the side passageway of the house. The TMD section is in the garage having the street lighting wired (now completed.) The scratchbuilt yard lamps were already wired and just need the bases disguising. The link section is next to have the lighting done, possibly tomorrow. # One other thing I started several years ago was the alterations to the fiddleyard board, originally it was just 5 random tracks so I decided to revise the whole assembly and introduce a turntable which can double as a simple sector plate. Well that's about it for now so keep looking in.
  23. Hi all, Just a quick note to say I had a great day at the Heywood exhibition followed by a visit to the East Lancashire Railway. I took my donor Black 5 to Mark Towers (Mark Axlecounter) who is converting it into a Caprotti version!!! Mark's layout Bucks Lane was well worth the trip as the loco fleet and stock all look fabulous. I also managed to provisionally book Bermuda Road for next year's show and also this September's show at Poynton near Stockpork so I really need get it set up and fettled PDQ !!! The ELR had the Standard Class 2 78018 running which really looked the part. I'll hopefully add some photos tomorrow.

    Bermuda Road MPD

Hi all, Just to let you know I have taken 'Bermuda Road MPD' out of storage and I'm in the process of carrying out some maintenance and any required repairs, please see my 'DENT STATION' thread for latest updates. In the meantime.... If there are any exhibition managers looking for a layout for a North West based show then 'Bermuda Road MPD' should hopefully be ready in 3-4 months. Please PM me for full details I'm sure it can be revamped in good time, biggest problem is space, to fully set it up and test it out I need a dry day and use the patio outside as there is no room in the shed!
  25. Had to come out and back in again - PAIN! Anyway here is the result Lever assembly fitted and painted overall black Main shaft picked out in white. Result is much stronger than the plastic version and hopefully will withstand a few inadvertent knocks with a track rubber in future. So for now I'll be doing more bits on Bermuda Rd. whilst carrying on with the anhydrite conversions etc. so keep looking in. If there are any exhibition managers looking for a layout for a North West based show then 'Bermuda Road MPD' should hopefully be ready in 3-4 months.
