  1. Lovely day, sorting out the caravan. Taking everything out, laying it on the lawn to check and repack. Kicked the sandals off. Then I discovered the thistles that had seeded in. the lawn.

  7. At school in music one of my fellow string players asked how Mantovani made the sound. The Music Master tried explaining how all the strings had to start noted early or finish them late. The guy who asked the question said something like "Oh, they can't keep to time then?" The reply was "Exactly."

  9. ... on the approach to second booster vaccines, the EU says over 60, the UK Over 75. If we were still part of the EU there may well have been some sort of commonality in approach, but untruths won.... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2022/07/12/according-to-zoe-its-1-in-15/
  10. Few spots here about an hour ago
  11. I believed a Tesco plant label once. It said miniature conifer 12 inches. Two years ago the twenty foot tree came down
  12. ... Cooked using the barbeque, not set anything on fire yet. Not too badly, anyway. .... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2022/07/11/nhs-pressure-and-increasing-infections/
  13. Today I built the new barbecue and I’ve decided to cook all my meals on it this week just to see how big a mess I can make https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2022/07/10/ever-on-the-up/
  14. Give away - yes, very few people with eight million to spend of a cask of whisky would know the meaning of those words.
  15. Self checkout - don't prefer it. Scanning while putting stuff from the shelves to bags in the trolley reduces handling and has my favour. So it's pick - scan, bag, pay, car, unload, put away - two handlings of the produce, two handlings of full bags With a checkout it's pick to trolley, unload, scan (someone else), bag, pay, car, unload, put away - four handlings of the produce, two handlings of full bags With a self scan it's pick to trolley, unload, scan (me), bag, pay, car, unload, put away - four handlings of the produce, two handlings of full bags It also takes less time. I know that the number staff are reduced, but as I'm still distancing (never stopped) because of Covid that's also an advantage. But I will always pay in kiosk rather than pay at pump - multiple 'insurance' transactions on the bank do not float my boat.
  16. One part of me says "What's the point"? Another part of me says "What's the point"? Then. another Then another Until there's no parts left At a grand plus a nip. I suppose the word 'collector' says it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-62082200
  17. Tonight's blog will document the near disasters of today. Yes, I've started on the clumsiness early. It will be hot so trying to get things done in good time, with a scheduled experiment on the new barbecue. That presages another disaster to write about.
  18. ... In the contest running at the moment, I’m glad I’m not able to vote because my mark would be for “None of the above.” ... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2022/07/09/without-legislative-backup/

  21. I hadn't realised it, but now you've said it ...
  22. Pineapple has the enzyme, bromelain, which softens the fibres of muscles. Prof Heinz Wolff, did an experiment on TV where he took a long roll of pork and injected pineapple juice in to one end, roasted it an served it up in a dinner party. The experiment was either too successful or unsuccessful, depending on your viewpoint, as the pork with the pineapple end fell apart
  23. It is possible - preheated foil wells and then grill from the top.
  24. ... we’re probably going to take no action over the doubling and redoubling of Covid infection and probably let them run riot, which will mean more hospital admissions and the already struggling NHS is going to both pressurised and unfairly blamed. ... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2022/07/07/covid-growing-but-cabinet-distracted/
