  7. Cherry juice reduces uric acid, apparently. Don't know whether it's the same thought process as drinking cranberry juice. When I was having treatment for prostate cancer I started drinking it, and happened to mention it. Conversation went: Do you like it? No, not much Then don't.. The benefits are questionable.

  10. Just done my seventh negative Covid test after Track and Trace said that I'd had a close call - it was in Sainsbury's by the time, the only place I went that day. Now down to the night before teaching, that's three times a week. I'm not going out otherwise.
  11. They get eight meetings with their dissertation supervisor. This was the fourth. They didn't show to the others, either.
  12. ... meetings with students but they decided that they’d leave me waiting and not turn up ... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2022/01/27/on-masks/
  13. I'd use sarcasm but it would just go over their heads.
  14. Don't know but it takes me time to prepare for each meeting, getting their work (such as it is), organising myself and then sitting. Can't gt on with anything else substantive as if they do turn up I'll have to drop it and forget where I am And then when they don't show I put more time in both writing to them, their personal tutors and their module leader saying that they haven't turned up[. Just annoyed.
  15. Waiting on a teams meeting for dissertation students to show up. This is their fourth out of eight They didn't show up to the previous ones, either. Even though one regularly says yes to the invite, one has complained that they missed the invite and when was the next meeting. I did say the time and location but they're also absent. The third haven't heard from at all Since September

  18. I wrote it initially when Sandy and I were doing stuff on Cornish Mines and wanted to get values, adding up accounts and things like that. thought to would be good to create a resource for future researchers.
  19. When Sandy died I had to cancel her phone contract. I went to the O2 shop, and they said that all that they wanted was a copy of her death certificate and they'd do everything else. They did.
  20. Only people born before 1960 will have any real experience of working with pounds, shillings and pence.
  21. Over the course of my O and A levels and into my university we went from fps through cms through kms to SI, which is still the current definition, and is maintained by The General Conference on Weights and Measures (GCWM; French: Conférence Générale des Poids et Mesures, CGPM) is the supreme authority of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures(BIPM), the intergovernmental organization established in 1875 under the terms of the Metre Convention through which member states act together on matters related to measurement science and measurement standards. fps - foot-pound-second cms - cemtimetre-gram-second kms - kilogramme-mertre-second SI - Système International Some years ago I wrote a page on my blog site which is referred to about five or six times a week. https://johncolby.wordpress.com/ancient-and-non-metric-measures/
  22. A calorie is defined as the amount of heat energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1°C. Calories are normally used to describe the amount of energy your body gets from what you eat and drink. Calories can also be used to describe the amount of energy your body needs to perform physical tasks including: breathing thinking maintaining your heartbeat The amount of energy that foods provide is normally recorded in thousands of calories, or kilocalories (kcal). For instance, one carrot generally provides you with 25,000 calories, or 25 kcal. On the other hand, running on the treadmill for 30 minutes generally requires you to use 300,000 calories, or 300 kcal. However, because “kilocalories” is an awkward word to use, people often use the term “calories” instead. For the purposes of this article, the common term “calorie” will be used to describe kilocalories (kcal). This from https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/does-calorie-counting-work#what-is-a-calorie?
