  1. Had a skim through Ian Peaty's Iron Rails and Whisky Trails and can only find definite proof as the 12"s for Dailuaine and Balmenach and a couple of others possibly smaller of of 1800s builds. No 14"s though. Im applying modellers license to this though.
  2. 'A Highland Life" came into my mind while researching the Killin branch and the time period. I plan to explore the period of the 1950's-60's through at least one layout. The first one is to be a branch terminus that was initially going to be based on Killin but has expanded its remit. While I await the baseboards, I'm getting on with the buildings which are to be based off real buildings around the Highlands. First is the church. The hub of communities. The church is based off the one at Tomatin. Built in corrugated iron/ asbestos First parts is measured and cut out parts that make it up: https://imgur.com/bt2cahY. While I await the drills to assist in cutting, the windows are marked out. More to come as this develops.
  3. I recall there being video of their move from Tonbridge to Tenderten but never seen it online.
  4. Supposedly. What I read was that they were working near the tunnel and heard a train coming but there was no train that day. I always thought it was a tunnel they didn't use though.
  5. Aviemore shed is haunted, thats for truth. I'd previously read about the ghosts (flushing toilet and footsteps) and thought nothing of it till the toilet flushed on its own accord. Needless to say I packed up and headed home quickly. The story goes that one of the shed staff was killed by leaking steam from a Black 5 but I'm not sure of the truth of this. LU has plenty of ghosts and funny goings on.
  6. Just when I had money to live on I went and bought Tatlows "Lner wagons vol3". Back to poverty for me.

    Dalry Road

Now that I'm back on my computer, thank you very much guys, a huge help. In the photo with the 17, I can't mke out the lean to and photos of it are seemingly non existent so I suspect I will have to get a copy of the Hawkins and Reeve book. Time for some actual work.

Merci, Stuart. Now to figure out how to fit it within 11 x 20.

    Dalry Road

So as you will know, I've not had much luck with getting projects off the ground but I will try this time (I swear guv). I recently moved to Edinburgh and my bedroom looks out onto Western Approach Road. So with that in mind I hunted down the actual location of Dalry Road and some pictures and came across this modelable scene: I had been considering something gritty and Edinburgh based since moving here and this seems to be perfect. Its difficult to tell if the two road shed at the front is attached or even close to the four road in the background so any pictures or info on such would be much appreciated.
  10. I think there is still one on the Dundee side of the station (and a fair distance from the station itself) but it doesn't look used much and may well be the one Arran is talking about.

I'm sure I've seen Baby Rolleis for less than that . I think £50 is about normal for what these go for but I normally stop paying attention once they hit about £35. I think I've lost on about 4 of these so I think I will go for a Lubitel 166B that go for about £20. Film dead? I don't think so somehow .

Tell me about it: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260716146028&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT . I gave up at £25
  17. In this case it had to be shunted by whatever loco brought in the empties.
  18. Thanks for that. It looks overkill to me but I did say to correct me.
  19. There is one feature that gets my goat even though they are important but the justification/ presentation is a bit iff. Ladles and jellyspoons I give you, the engine shed. Most of the time they are on BLTs where sometimes there was a shed, sometimes there wasn't and the branch would be worked by loco based at the junction or would work to the junction then work the branch (Lambourn comes to mind here). There always seems to be a cat clambouring about on a pile of sleepers or the roof of the mess room. There was a layout in one of the monthlys that had a single road shed when it was a through station with a couple of sidings serving a quarry loader. To me (correct me if i'm wrong) but surely the loco would be needed as it needs to move the individual wagons under the loader and marshall its train. I can see why people add in sheds, they are easily justifiable but its been a little overdone.
  20. Wiz, great photos. That last one is the old bridge to the Far North and Kyle lines that got swept away a few years after you took that photo.

If you shoot it, you have till December to get it processed as the only place in the planet is closing the K-14 line.

Not railway based profiteering but still shocking considering there are only a couple of months left to get someone to process Kodachrome: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kodachrome-64-35mm-colour-slide-film-/150504887196?pt=UK_Photography_Film&hash=item230aca539c
