  1. Nice locos,

The fifth mudhole can be found on the front of the firebox in between the frames. I honestly don't know why the one is a flat bar. On the photo of the pig a Bridgnorth, its worth remembering that it is not quite as in BR condition. The regulator on the firemans side was removed, from foklore after knocking out a fireman in the 70's. Also the brake originally had a fitting as well on the firemans side with a rod connecting it to the valve. The mounting studs are still there (you can just see them in the photo) and she is a wonderfull machine which is adorable to drive.

    Regards

  2. i am steadily working on the buildings for my model of stow which has finally been started. i have good photographs of most of the major buildings such as the good shed and station buildings etc but, there is one group of buildings on my map that i have no clue about. they are line side which means that there are only so many things that they can be but most of the photos i have are taken from the north end and don't show the buildings in question. does any rmwebber have an idea as to the company or purpose of these buildings.

the buildings in question are circled in red.

Have you tried Britain from Above or Scotlands Places? - what a lovley idea for a model

  3. The bottom end of 69 was done about 18 months before the end of her last ticket from memory. Up till recently engines tended to go through in the order they came out of traffic, however things are changing.

5110 and Gordon being company engnies without a group like the Hagley Hall society will always end up being lower down the pecking order and I have not seen either on the list. Many will not lament Gordon not being done soon. Both the 29 group and Hagley have raised good amounts of money and that now counts for alot. The other thing of course is the number of both paid and volunteer members of staff.

The company has a target of acheiving overhalls much quicker than it dropped down to and with changes that have happened things are speeding up and improving. Even on some midweek days the number of volunteers is increasing. One recent Wednesday saw 25 volunteers in addition to the paid staff on shed.

Sorry to go off thread, coming back on do we know when we might see some sample images?

  4. No the next overhaul has not yet started. we alreayd have 813 / 7714 / 34027 / 75069 / 43106 / Dunrobin in bits inside the shed and there is not room for more. Although the pig is coming back together nicley and the pannier is making steady progress as is TV. Hopefully it will start soon as its an outstanding engine.

  5. Morning all,

A couple of new images have emerged onto Flickr very recently

First Ernie has added this shot of the South box from a train leaving showing the Border Counties curving away http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/8724513449/sizes/h/in/photostream/

and Robert Carrol has added this nice shot at Hawick from a northbound train in November 1968 http://www.flickr.com/photos/robertcwp/8728965222/in/photostream

  7. Based on what I found out about West Moors I think you will have to do your own elevation plans for West Moors.

The signal box is based on a standard design of windows which can be found on the Oakwood press book on LSWR signal Boxes http://www.flickr.com/photos/g1ulz/4621387316/ and this http://www.flickr.com/photos/70023venus2009/8355329786/ show useful views of it.

The concrete footbridge was shown in a plan an early Modelling Railways Illustrated I think from memory.

The main building is a bit of a one as I have never found a view of the rear of the building. There are however as you probably know lots taken from the same angles including http://www.flickr.com/photos/g1ulz/2382927471/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/g1ulz/1241339499/  and http://www.flickr.com/photos/g1ulz/1241338275/ this last view is useful as the footbridge has gone and shows the end of the building.

The Crossing Keepers house still stands today http://www.flickr.com/photos/g1ulz/1241338275/ and in earlier days http://www.flickr.com/photos/g1ulz/2407470150/

I think for the main building you will have to make an assumption that the rear is very similar to Fordingbridge and go from there.

There are also more photos in the Middleton Press 'Branch lines around Wimbourne' and a track plan that could be expanded from an OS map

Sorry I cant be of more help

    Duncan

  8. Firstly Bubbles thanks for helping to identify the location of the crossing in the link you gave. I am ashamed to say my collecting is primarily original slides and negatives (which are) in the main pre 1968. At least negatives and slides don't take up too much space and the fun of it is trying to identify the countless unidentified ones, and those I can't often end up on my flickr stream.

    kind regards

    Duncan

  9. There are no photos in the main published books, as yet i've not found the article on Towcester that i remember from either earlier this year or last year. Will keep looking.

  10. I've a funny feeling there is a photo inside the box at Towcester in the most recent book on the line or in an article in Bylines - will have a look when i get home

    kind regards

  11. Hi Ron,

    You can also

    Hi, Simon

The only pictures I can find of B17's at Manchester Central are LNER 2841 Gayton Hall in mid. 1930's, and LNER 2864 Liverpool in 1946

    Ron

    Hi Ron,

You can add 2809 Quidenham onto the list of B17s at Manchester. Sadly I can't seam to be able to attach the scan of the negative at the moment. Look forward to seeing more progress on this impressive layout.

    regards
