  1. A great job Nigel, the layout will look fantastic when all done.
  2. Good job on the shunter, it looks superb. Have a good show.
  3. Oh yes Brockenhurst already booked, and another Sector Plate fiddle yard has been picked up at the Poole Show ready for installation at other end of layout. Another Sentinal No 8 named after my Grandson “Tiger” rests between duties.
  4. Hi Pete, thanks for kind comments and it’s great to hear from you, yes Pete great weekend, there were probably many faces you have known from the past attending the show, including 2 operating Millway Dock below although not shown at their best shot.
  5. "Good to (briefly) catch up and glad our three votes helped!" How many of them were for Functionality Phil? Well I have spent the day so far settling Millway Dock back into its natural environment and it would appear the it has survived its very first exhibition pretty much unscathed (the odd ships handrail come adrift, nothing that a spot of superglue won't put right) and it all still works. I enjoyed myself at the Poole show and I have to thank some people for making it all happen - James and all at the Poole Club for the invite and their hospitality - Ian (Temeraire) for his help with operating and transporting the layout (much beyond the call of duty) - Andy Picton for just passing by and ending up with a Powercab thrust at him - and Jamie for just being Jamie, and all friends both old and new who passed by during the day. Kevin
  6. Hi Phil I am beginning to think you and me are the only one’s on this thread, anyway just to bring attention to the Poole exhibition on Sunday another picture of Millway Dock.
  7. I was messing around just taking pictures to see what came up - you know close ups, different angles and the like for my layout thread, and this appeared to me to be the best of the bunch, so I thought I would try my hand on this thread. Kevin
  8. Many thanks Nigel, perhaps you can make Brockenhurst in May, enjoy your weekend.
  9. Millway Dock will be there, it’s very first appearance, hopefully see you there, why not say hello if you see us. Kevin, Ian and Jamie.
  10. Cheers Scott, sorry you can’t make it on Sunday, but all is not lost as I have an invite to Brockenhurst next year, hopefully you can make that one, failing that you could always visit the layout in its natural habitat anytime just give us a ring.picture taken from the top floor of Fillian & Scott building, hired 07 D7005 does its bit on the dock. Best regards Kevin
  11. Thanks Saxokid, here is another of Millway Docks resident shunters No5 a Janus. Best regards Kevin
  12. Yes Paul, I resprayed and weathered them myself, and then sent them to that jolly nice chap Richard Croft of Road and Rails who kindly fitted lights, sound and stay alives to them, and if you add extremely good service too, then you end up with something special which I can thoroughly recommend. See you soon. Kevin.
  13. Only a week to go to Millway Docks first show at Poole, really looking forward to it. Fred tries to work out how to get the lifeboat into the back of his van with only a pump truck?
  14. Many thanks for the excellent video Nigel and your company yesterday, Millway Dock will appear at its first exhibition at the Poole show on Sunday the 20th October 2019 at Poole Grammar School, Gravel Hill, Poole, Dorset, BH17 9JU. Opening times: 10am to 4.30pm, I am certainly looking forward to it and hopefully see you there. Kevin
  15. Was this the one Scott, as they are on special offer at the moment.
  16. Hello sb67 how I do the inlaid track? l use Peco code 100 (because of the depth of the rail) inlaid with card (Metcalf Tarmac) which appears to be the right thickness cut to fit between the rails, cut the Metcalf card into 17mm strips for straight track, and just paint the top of the rail - carefully overlay the card face-up on to the area you wish to cover - and then cut to the inside of the painted line for curves and everywhere else, once done to your satisfaction paint with your favourite shade of concrete coloured paint which when dry secures everthing into place. If done properly most modern rolling stock runs perfectly (as long as you keep the wheels of your stock and the track clean) but don’t use your old Triang, early Hornby or Lima - or anything else with pizza cutter flanges on your wheels. My best regards Kevin. ps, Dont do as I did and forget that on larger areas between tracks you will need packing to support the card, I use 3mm or 4mm ply cut to shape as required, it doesnt have to be exact. Cheers Kevin
  17. Thank you for that Scott, that fits into my timescale nicely, whilst we are talking Hamworthy one of these would not look out of place.
  18. Thank you for your comment OOman it is appreciated. In truth as can be seen above somebody else built the baseboards, the buildings, structures and ships already existed, all I had to do was set up the layout and then transfer everything from Leaford and place it on Millway Dock (mind you that leaves a big hole on Leaford). I don’t think I am ready for any TV appearances yet - I dunno though perhaps Love Island!!! I am not sure this bloke chose the right career. Cheers Kevin
  19. Cheers for your nice comments guys, I just wish I could fathom posting pictures on here, I will have another go with this one, Rob mentioned Hamworthy. (although I am not sure that it was a National Coal Board Janus that was hired).
  20. Thanks Steve, of course I do not mind if you copy Millway Dock, in fact I would be flattered, perhaps you could visit if convenient for you at some time. Class 33/0 33029 gets involved in some complicated shunting on the dock.
  21. Many thanks Nigel for the excellent photos and also for finding this.
  22. Below the Crane in one of its previous positions and on its original gantry base, I have since built a second base that spans a double track, hopefully!! if I can somehow get the picture the correct size excepted by this thread, you will be able to see the model to its full height. Regards Kevin.
  23. I thought that this maybe of interest, A very good mate of mine built this Dockside Crane for me, it is based on a Stothard & Pitt design it uses bits from the original Airfix (now Dapol) and Pola kits mixed with a lot of scratchbuilt ingenuity, I am very lucky as it now sits on a new yet to be to exhibited layout of mine called "Millway Dock".
  24. Many thanks Paul, I will take you up on your kind offer, and indeed to you John for your kindness as well, it will be good to meet up again. Best regards. Kevin.
