  1. Cheers John, managed to bag another cheap one on ebay last week so will have another yo add to the rake. If you pop over to my page again @Enterprisingwestern Mike has added sor pics of his chassis mods to add extra detail. I never realised how thin the middle framing should be! Cheers James
  2. I suppose it would be pretty easy, although doming the ends off may be tricky to get a uniform look. Apart from that I imagine it would be pretty simple with plasticard and plastruct.
  3. Well 20 will keep you pretty busy I'm sure. Interesting thought on a 3d print, it would make things very easy. All the best James
  4. Cheers Mike, WOW! I didn't know just how thin the underframe should be, top job thinning that down. I didn't have any plans and just worked off pics. TBH I was just going for the livery and couldn't just make out how far under the frame should be. Moving the bogie pivots was my biggest improvement visually, well worth the effort and its fairly simple mod. I did quite like the SKits walkways and ladders but I'm sure they could be tweaked to be finer. Also I guessed at which type/style to fit to mine. Excellent stuff and I'm sure they will turn into stunning models. Have you ever thought about how to do the more conical ended tanks? Cheers James
  5. Stenson Models, esc1 shoe braked ones. Worth every penny. Not affiliated to them (I know I wax lyrical about them!) but they really are worth it james
  6. Oh now this is interesting as I'm thinking of getting a rake of 21t hoppers bought up to be detailed and weathered myself. Looking forward to see how you get on Steve. Looking very good already, I'm sure powders will help to get the look you are going for. Cheers James
  7. Hi John, Cheesy just linked my notes for the 6 I just did, I used the ESC1 shoe braked bogies as they best fitted the prototype I was doing. The pic I was working from was when they were brand new at washwood heath I also have pics of other branded tanks on esc1 disc braked bogies. I'd say pick your prototype and have a look at the stenson site and find the best looking fit. They are great bogies and well worth it. Cheers James
  8. Not an air base really but there was the rail served 'petrol dump' between Harrogate and Starbeck on the Harrogate-York line. It was/is in the Starbeck end of the triangle between the old Starbeck-Northallerton route. I believe the underground tanks held petrol diesel and aviation fuel for onward despatch to bases around the area so a nice literal corner filler. Cheers James
  9. Afternoon all, the TEA'S are pretty much done, just needing hand brake wheels at somepoint when I get round to ordering some. They are currently up at the layout having a trundle around after I refitted the bogies. I suppose I best get back to the mountain of carriages but its a tad cold for spraying today and the house needs a tidy.. Cheers James
  10. Good luck with the varnishing, woke up to snow again up here so no spraying for me this weekend by the look of it. When I do my deltics with the shawplan windscreens I use crystal clear and it works pretty well so may be an option on the 40?
  11. Shawplan grille is a must, iv popped one on my Bachmann 40 and it's well worth it and frost grilles too if needed, amazingly fine mesh. Cab windows is always interesting so I'll be interested to see how you tackle it, and intruiged to see what you do with the profile too. Mines pretty far down the list but it could be a quickish project to run alongside something else. Pity York show is cancelled, was going to pick up loads of bits and bobs for various things like deltics and the 40.
  12. Evening Martyn, glad to be back on here! I really have missed it although didn't get anything much done during the down time... 5147 will come out well I'm sure, keeping a close eye on what you are planning with that 40 you picked up when you get to it. All the best James
  13. Morning Martyn, yeah feeling pretty good but have still been testing positive for Covid so getting a bit bored of my 4 walls... I'm sure whatever you decide to finish it off will look great, a bit of weather here and there will add just that extra bit. Hope you're keeping well too? James
  14. Afternoon Mike, ta for compliments, I managed to pick 6 of em up very cheap last year. Just over 50quid for them all which was quite enexpected but glad I went if for them. The roofwalks were all bent and buckled, described as smoke damaged too so I imagine there had been some sort of fire at a poor persons layout as there was other stock also described from the same seller. To me the Hornby inaccuracies are there i know but they look like TEA'S to me and with thr new cat walks and Stenson bogies they scrub up well for 'layout' wagons, I did think about tinkering further especially the under gubbins but my layout is set relatively low so you can't really see everything going on underneath and I'd probably get very bored tinkering all 6 up so they'll do for me. The old 3ft test rule is one of my main things to live by, up there with if it looks right it is right! I do admire modellers like yourself that go all in and can polish up the proverbial to near full prototype detail but I know my current limits and also attention span. Modelling time is hard to come by sometimes and I like to get things done and watch them trundle around fir a bit before my next favourite thing comes along! Have you got some pics of yours? Love to see what you have made of em? One day I may revist these fir a full on rebuild. All the best James
  15. Ooo now that looks excellent, great painting and transfer application Martyn. Seems a shame to matt varnish it.. I'd be tempted with a satin to try keep the just ex works look? Top job, love it. All the best James
  16. Afternoon all, spent most of yesterday faffing with the tanks and sanding the mk2s. Not a great deal to show other than I have started the transfers on the TEA' s, slightly slow going but 2 well on the way. 4 more to go and then I'll go back around and add the wording and numbers once the decal fix has set the big main ones. Cheers James
  17. Up early this morning so have been doing another round of filler in my 2d's. I meant to do it last night but got carried away with the football and a couple of drinks. Edging very close to paint shops here. I actually have a proper TSO in my possession now, chanced up one on ebay and won for the princely sum of 4 quid or something daft! Saves chopping up another FO!
  18. Oh well now, I do like that! I don't think I remember seeing a pic of one of this type before, looks like some kind of armoured wagon from WW1! Excellent job Darius, another one to add onto my 'one day' list All the best James
  19. Thanks Darius, don't worry they are tissue samples rather than the erm liquid kind.. it's bad enough sorting them and the literal crappy paperwork that comes in from farm for them at home. Thankfully non of the 'liquid' samples due in.. One of the most bizarre messages I had at work a couple of years ago was when it was announced there was a s*men delivery van outside for me. The joys of agriculture!
  20. Evening all, been working as best I can from home, not ideal sorting bovine genomic samples from the sofa but hey ho, less to do when I'm allowed back in the office. Fingers crossed for a negative test tomorrow and Sunday. Clocked off this aft and got the grey done on the TEA'S and a second coat of varnish on transfer sheets for these. Brushed some red on the solebars and started on the black underframe bits. Pizzas ordered to the plague house ready for Leeds vs Wolves. I wish I was in the pub but at least iv got a weekend to crack on. Cheers James
  21. My lad has had it twice from school but me and his mum didn't get it either time then. I think iv got it now because its 1 rife and 2 it's been a few months since my 3rd jab so immunity naturally waning. Not feeling too bad now all being said. Fingers crossed it stays away from you MJI Stay safe James
  22. Cheers Martyn, lesson learned here, I should have done more testing rather than rushing... I need to check on the stripper but it's a bit tricky as I came down with Covid on Monday and been pretty ropy today. The coach sides are at my Dads who is away this week so if I'm feeling a bit better I may nip round and liberate them to assess. Bloody annoyed iv gone 2 years avoiding it and get it the week iv started spraying! Hey ho, touch wood I'll be on the mend soon. All the best James
  23. Exactly my thoughts, I got mine mixed up at my local Auto Discount shop, I wanted to give it a try it because I thought it may be a cheaper and quicker alternative to my usual Railmatch blue rattle cans. Railmatch takes a while to dry and is quite expensive factoring in postage and with the amount of coaches I have in the queue I thought it'd be an easy win. My fault for not testing it first, been waiting weeks to get spraying with weather and being busy do I should have hung fire.. I'm going to experiment with the Holts Grey I have tht is nearly rail grey and see how the 5020 sits on that. That was my plan but got bored waiting so brushed railmatch on a couple of coaches All is not lost though, I got a coat of grey on my TEA'S before I went to watch Leeds game and the LFK sides are being stripped.
  24. Got a bit of free time before Leeds game this aft, thought I'd get up to the bench and get the rattle cans out eager to try the RAL 5020. I'd started painting some of the coach sides with railmatch rail grey with a brush whilst the weather was poor. Masked up the LFK to spray the blue and bu*gger.. it clearly doesn't like being on top of Enamel paint! Also the 15mm masking tape I found isn't great, back to Tamiya stuff. Now where is my model strip?
  25. Evening John, I'd love to see you have a go at DHP1, it's been a fair old while since I did mine now so memories are a little hazy around parts of it as I made it up as I went along. If you need any scans if the plans I used just drop me a message. All the best James
