  1. Agreed on the EWS lettering looking 'thinner'/lighter than the number font. This was raised several months ago when the pre-production shots first emerged, so if it is still the case on the production sample of 66005, then it seems as though this was not corrected, ignored, or deemed to be correct as it stands. I'm glad that someone else has picked-up on it though. I'm in a similar mindset with regard to the 'Barbie' liveried GBRf versions in that the bodyside GBRf text and loco numbering appear somewhat 'slender'. I did mention this again to Dave at Warley, although he is adamant that having worked from official GBRf spec that it is indeed correct. While I agree that the GBRf text on 'Barbie' livery is/was somewhat 'thinner' than the text/logo of GBRf's current livery, I'm still not entirely convinced that it's quite as slender as it is now portrayed on the model, which to my eye still appears somewhat too thin. Benefit of the doubt etc... although I'm happy to be proved entirely wrong of course. Al
  2. In all seriousness, while Hornby potentially look at the misaligned logo issue it would surely be as good a time as any to look closely at the shades that they consistently and incorrectly use for Railfreight triple-grey. The roofs never look anything like Executive Dark Grey, the upper Flint Grey body band is always way too dark, and ever since 'Quinag' even the lower body Rail Grey hasn't looked right. Logo issues aside the triple-grey livery itself that Hornby use is a right old hash. It would be nice (and surely good for their sales) if they sorted it once and for all... Here's hoping...
  3. Diversionary tactic - changing the subject: debater is losing so he tries to redirect the attention of the audience to another subject area where he thinks he can look better relative to the person he is debating...
  4. I can't speak for everyone but my blood pressure isn't raised. At the end of the day all of this depends upon one's individual perspective. Would you buy a GWR loco with GRW printed on the side? I'd guess perhaps not. But why not, it's only a logo, a toy train, right? Great Western Railway, or Great Railway Western, it's all the same, surely? Who cares? Horses for courses. To anyone with even a passing knowledge of Class 60s and the livery in question the logo is clearly wrong - and I didn't need Google to lookup the livery to tell me it was wrong. And I wouldn't buy it. End of story. However I'm not about to have a coronary over it. With the greatest respect, if anything you seem to be catastrophising some of the comments made on the subject when in fact people are more than likely simply expressing an opinion, which is largely what forums are for.
  5. I'm pretty certain that it would change Hornby's thinking if sufficient models remain on their warehouse shelves unsold and eventually end up being cleared in bargain bins...
  6. It's a pig's ear if ever there was one... a pig's ear, I tells ya! ...however if they let a few go at 50 quid a pop I might just be interested.
  7. Hi Charlie Similar to above, Order ID: #252 & #636 - is it best to call or just hang fire? cheers Al edit: Sorted, thanks!
  8. Yowzers!! Great announcement! 2020 is gonna be one expensive year methinks! Here's looking forward to 37/4, 37/5, 37/7...
  9. The upper body dark grey band does indeed look too dark, similar to the last three releases of triple-grey 60s. Quite likely that the roof is wrong too, although at least it isn't black as it was on the coal sector 60, 'Quinag'. Still, only 12 or so years to produce a construction-liveried 60 and they come forward with this. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry... At £160 a pop for something with incorrect shades and logos they can keep 'em. Looking on the bright side though, it may well mean a fair old bunch of cheap 60s being off-loaded come SALE time, in a few months or so...
  10. I dunno if it's already been posted herein, however there now appears to be a production sample online...
  11. A bigger question for me is, does anyone make one in OO gauge?
  12. Ditto on the GWR Green.
  13. Is the Shawplan etch a good fit for the new 33 bodyshell? I have the etch, and agree it's superb, but have held off buying one of the new 33s simply due to being uncertain if it would fit, conscious that the etch was designed for the original moulded grille 33. I may well be tempted to give it a go. thanks Al
  14. The etched grille is way overscale and quite frankly looks plain awful. period.
  15. Ahaaaa, I knew I'd saved it from somewhere.
  16. 08s are a minefield for the reasons mentioned already and so too details such as lights, lamp brackets, door hinges, wooden vs metal cab doors... the list goes on. The info below should be helpful, although should not be assumed to be exhaustive. The key is to check and double check with photographs of the actual prototype that you choose to model as it was at a specific time. I also have a complete fleet list with many more details which I'm pretty sure can be found online quite easily, but could always forward to you if you so wish... Cab Doors Wooden Cab Doors were fitted up to 08704 (D3871). Steel Cab Doors were fitted from 08705 (D3872) onwards. Running Plate Up to 08698 (D3865) the running plate had a lip at the top and a fillet that projects downwards at the rear end of the running plate to the buffer beam, 08699 (D3866) onwards did not have either feature, the running plates were plain and had no fillet to the rear buffer beam. cheers Al
  17. Very nice. Is it fair to assume that the hoods do indeed retract, as pictured? cheers Al
  18. Consider also that there will be those (as hinted in your latter sentence) that have more money to throw around than they may ever have experience - and ultimately that's any manufacturer's 'dream' customer and in many instances all you need in order to sell any product...
  19. Someone feel free to correct me but I think the Markits horns are too small for a 60? If there are indeed suitably sized brass horns on the market somewhere I would be very interested...
  20. Yes, Cavalex are producing the early (grey stripe) version... http://www.trains4u.com/p/47602/Cavalex-Models-PGA012OR(1)-OO-Gauge-PGA-Wagon-Original-Redland Despite the Trains4U website saying "out of stock", you can simply email or telephone to pre-order and they will contact you when the models are available. It's a bit 'old-school' compared to ordering directly via a website but that seems to be how they roll... Cavalex operate to a slightly different business model to that of Accurascale, so perhaps unfair to compare the two. If ordering any item(s) direct from Cavalex then essentially you need to get your order and deposit in prior to production. Failing that, some stock is made available via a small number of stockists. I'm sure that if any of this has changed then Cav or Alex will step in and correct me, as it's their show after all, but that's my understanding of the set up. Your best bet at this stage is to email Trains4U with your request and I'd imagine that they will be able to fulfill your needs.
  21. So if there's no announcement of a new 37 by Christmas then that's it... finito, fini, final? Forever? I highly doubt that somehow.
  22. Ooooooh, I guess someone has to ask the obvious question first, so... a possibility for OO gauge?
