  1. Hi folks A pair of DRS class 20s (20 305 & 20 308) were today sighted on the "Kelbit" branch/spur of the old Haydock/St Helens branch off the WCML at Golborne. There was no rolling stock, just the two locos coupled together. This is the first working on this track for several years according to friends who live in houses backing on to the line, which used to run to Haydock racecourse but was severed at Edge Green in the 1980s/90s. Dose anyone have any idea what the purpose was? There is a Hanson aggregates railhead at the end of the spur, I don't know if the site is still operational though. The offices are boarded up. Pictures exist, but I am awaiting permission from the lady who took them before I post them here. I can find no mention of the working on realtime trains etc. Any info would be welcome. Thanks Pete
  2. The horizontal girders on the pic.... As you can see, they are currently rubbish. I am going to space them more evenly and hopefully make them more rigid. Edit: damn, they are the horizontal ones when you turn the pic on its side!
  3. Very interesting this. I wonder would any owner of these machines be willing to accept a commission? I need some roof girders for a diesel depot I am building. I have made some out of thin card but feel they are too flimsy and random, so I have decided a better option would be to laminate 3 pieces of thin styrene for each girder. They are basically long rectangles with 6 sided holes cut out, I am struggling to describe this as you can tell... I will try to attach a photo. I have artwork in Adobe Illustrator which I can email. Help! :-) Pete
  4. I was lucky enough to see the model of the station building at the Southport show. It looks odd not being Merseyrail yellow though! ;-)
  5. Where do you pick up the logs train Jim? Warrington or north of? I know they have a crew change there (at least sometimes....) I am a bit north of Warrington
  6. Only just found about this, wish I had known at the weekend when I was in the area! Will call in next time I am in Chester, good luck with it Paul. Shame the Penketh shop has closed though. Pete Ps do you stock evergreen styrene products? I'm in the process of building an engine shed but have run out :-)
  7. I'm sure you've already seen it, but there are a few photos of Lowton St Mary's on the Wigan World website http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?opt=3&id=15645&gallery=Railways&offset=480 http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?opt=3&id=15644&gallery=Railways&offset=480 http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?opt=5&id=18337&gallery=Lowton&offset=0 As another Golborne resident, quite local to me.
  8. Hi Jim, just another voice in support. I don't post on here, just pop in to read occasionally but your thread has kept bringing me back, it's very interesting and entertaining, so please keep it up and don't be put off by negative oiks like that kid. Let me know when you are working between Warrington and Wigan & I'll nip out & salute you at Winwick or Golborne. All the best Pete
