  1. Until you have lived through the process of a close friend or relative losing their sight, you cannot fully understand the difference between vision and perception.

     

    To summarise, we are all living in and interacting with, a lie. A fabricated reality manufactured in our brains, based on the best new data (from all our senses) available, plus the memory of old data collected earlier. For most of us this is a close enough approximation to the real reality to make everyday activities practicable.

     

    Some examples of being misled or assisted by this.

     

    The moon looks bigger near the horizon than overhead

     

    People who claim to see Elvis' or Jesus' image on a piece of toast or shroud or rock

     

    A magician doing card tricks in closeup

     

    Recognising a familiar person across a crowded room.

     

    Enjoying old grainy monochrome photos or model railways.
