  1. Tell that to the parents of the 14 year old child who was hacked to death ,and the families of all those who were injured in the attack.
  2. I mentioned this to my younger brother when he was the Superintendent in charge of Specialist Operations in South Wales. He had been a TA 'Monkey' (RMP) prior to joining the Police Force (as it was then). He told me that his previous military training kicked in so when he went on the police range for the first time, and told to fire two rounds at the target to his front, he double tapped. He was told that his was not the way the police were taught to shoot and that in future, he was only to take deliberately aimed single shots. That's one of the troubles when the rules of engagement are made from the safety of an office by a lawyer with little or no experience of having fire returned.
  3. More than a few politicians in both the upper and lower chambers are either in amongst that bunch, or have close friends and relatives who are. See how the wetness spreads. If you don't believe me, take a cup of water and empty it over a table and see how far it goes.
  4. Good on her. My interaction with members of the Australian Armed Forces many years back, led me to believe that they had neither the time nor the inclination to stand on ceremony and pussy foot around when it came to taking action. That they got backed up by their superiors was refreshing. Unfortunately the British police and the UK criminal justice system has been taken over by the biggest bunch of liberal wet wipes the world has ever known. They are well known for making the perpetrator the victim and the victim(s) the perpetrator. The more liberally minded get further up the greasy pole of promotion, whilst the sopping wet get all the way to the top. When they are entrenched in these positions, they then promote like minded individuals into senior roles so the whole system becomes a self perpetuating clusterf*ck. (It appears I may have become a little agitated, for which I apologize.)
  5. The trouble with that sort of response is that any armed response officer who has the misfortune to shoot is put through the wringer. Typical sort of post incident 'debrief' probably goes like this. 'You discharged your weapon twice and wounded Mr X. when one shot would have been enough to disable him.... explain yourself! You will be suspended from your role whilst a full investigation is carried out and you may subsequently find yourself on a charge of negligently wounding Mr X with intent to kill.' However in the USA a similar debrief would go: 'Why did you discharge your firearm seven times when shooting Mr Y?' 'I got a stoppage Sir!' 'OK, fair point.'
  6. Not with that ammunition. It won't fit the gun, so you'll have to throw it at the Voldemorts.
  7. Almost, due to the very slight differences between imperial and metric barrels, they get listed as 4.5mm and 5.5 mm. So my BSA rifles, apart from the new Defiant are .22 calibre, but my German made Weirauch HW 100 is listed as 5.5 mm. As an aside .223' and 5.56 mm are 'interchangeable' insofar as they will fit the opposing barrel, but the big difference is that the Remington.233 round is not as powerful as a Nato 5.56 mm round and there is a big risk of blowing up the .233 if you fired 5.56 mm out of it, and very degraded performance if fired vice versa. Regarding the HW100, although it is quite happy firing .22 diablo* pellets, the skirt of the pellet is quite happy to reform to the very minute difference in diameter involved, when firing Prometheus plastic and alloy pellets, the difference is enough for the rifling of the barrel to strip shavings of the plastic seal away from the pellet, which floats to earth as the pellet disappears off to the target. Compared to the standard type of pellet, I found the Prometheus type pellet fired high and left, when compared with standard lead. This meant you really needed to re zero the rifle, or create a seperate ballistic range card so you could aim off at known distances. *Diablo is the pellet shape and not a brand name
  8. As threatened! The latest artillery piece of my collection. In a break from my usual calibre, this one is in .177 as opposed to . 22. it won't win any beauty contests, but I prefer function over form. Next on the list is a infra red night sight. (Thermal imaging is just out on my price range🤣)
  9. The old rifle was collected from its service at Eccleshall this morning, and it feels like a new one: The bag containing the old bits feels as if the only original bits left are the stock and the barrel. The new rifle was given a good clean, the barrel was really full of oily gunk, and once I'd got it cleared out, I then zeroed it in the back garden. It was a bit blustery when I did this, so it will need a further session when there is less wind. However, it does seem very accurate at 30 M with the final 10 pellets creating a large ragged hole in the target where the impact points were overlapping. It's obviously the prop forward of rifles, because it is short, stocky and is a lot heavier than it looks. I'll post some photos from my phone later on.
  10. I am always amused by the statement 'Civil War'. There is nothing civil in it what so ever.
  11. Saw these at Model World Live and thought of Ramrod: No sign of any representative Hunters or Phantoms. It was a good show, and very busy for a Sunday.
  12. Thanks Brian, decent beer. Did the rest of you notice that Brains is an anagram of Brians?
  13. All this talk of turntables makes me grateful that Pantmawr North is populated with tank engines. I now need to create a decent bacon breakfast prior to my excursion to the NEC for Model World Live. The new rifle was delivered yesterday evening. I've mounted the sight onto it, but the barrel now needs cleaning, prior to my attempts at zeroing the scope.
  14. I would have thought that keeping socks and cheese in the same fridge compartment would allow cross fertilization of aromas.
  15. Meths is much cheaper, and in the right conditions can really light your taste buds up.
  16. The magic word.... 'Unable' I am told it's the equivalent of a laxative rush for ATC.
  17. I remember reading about that incident. The pilot managed to glide over 40 mile and received an AFC for his efforts. One of those events where having plenty of altitude is definitely your friend.
  18. I'm about to take on some Guinness. (Brains was not available) As you will appreciate, this refuelling is purely for medicinal purposes.
  19. I was always under the impression that in RAF terminology, Bingo was the point at which you needed head for home before you ran out of go-go juice.
  20. Or just put 25 April into the PB version of the Causing Chaos and Misery diary.
  21. Now I understand why the hospital was so keen for me to be in yesterday having my errant finger nail(s) removed.
  22. I tried to pick up a stray cake from PB And this happened! Fortunately it's mainly padding.
