    Hello,

Does anybody know if GW Models are still charging the same prices as listed above ? It would be asking a lot for the prices to be the same especially the way everthing has shot up in the last two years.

I am after a roller for small coach roofs/boilers etc and for the extra £10.00 it would make sense to get the 10" one but the rail bender only sems to be mentioned on the smaller one - is it a useful feature for bending rail for checkrails and other rail used in point and crossing work ?

    Thanks

    Rob

This is the latest advert that came in the 0-gauge guild gazette a few weeks ago.

It should show you a price comparison.

The 6" roller is listed but not all the others.

    They look nice.

At least Dapol's announcements give you time to save up for their models. The HEA was announced in 2014* & has not arrived yet.

*Dapol claim 2014, but the thread on this forum dates to 2012, so maybe Andy York has a time machine?

I think this project might be more advanced than the HEA was.

It was only recently that Dapol released the engineering samples of the HEA but it looks like the Tankers are passed that stage already so fingers crossed.

I'm guessing they will release them to coincide with the Class 66 when it arrives.

Proportion of S7 vs FS - probably.

When you build in S7, you quickly find out where there are opportunities to run your stock.

    Dave

When I started S7 I lived in England and found very few people had layouts near me in fact only one person came forward with a hint of an offer to run my stuff.

Here in Scotland where I am now 5 mins away from the original home of PD very few people do S7 infact my area group is nothing but F7.

  4. On the S7 website it says Peco will supply the wheels on request but there are also other threads on Western Thunder that day they had no response from Peco.

I did try the S7 thing myself but gave up as its difficult to get wheels for many things unless you pay someone to get them modified or turn them yourself.

Slaters have started doing some nice solid all metal wheels but I believe only in F7 not S7. These are turned to the correct profile inside and out plus they have a correct tapered axle on the 3 hole disk wheels.

I sold all my S7 bits and went back to F7.

Excuse the rust it comes free with most of Slaters wheels these day....

On the note of the Springs not working I had David etch me 32 of these little beauties specially in nickel silver about 10-12 years ago. They very rarely see the light of day online but I'm more than happy with how they work. If you dont follow the instructions to the T they dont work and you will struggle to build the kits to. One day I will get round to completing them but that's down to me not a fault with the kit or how it's been designed....

Hello David,  hope this finds you well?

Is there still the option to build it with non-working springs?

I seem to remember that when the springs were first introduced they were an option.

    Jeff

Why would you want to bulld an excellent kit without the springs?

Here's me trying to get David to produce your favourite catfish and dogfish wagons with the springs and you are trying to get them removed from his other kits...

When the catfish dogfish and tank wagons came out there was no option just the cast springs. David added this option for a short while later.

Unfortunately these are no longer available for the old kits I wish they still were.

To make the etched spring units up only took an extra hour or two and made such an improvement over a casting.

  7. I can remember seeing 16 ton mineral wagons coming out of the car and lorry factories in Dunstable when I was a youngster. This would have been just before the Beeching axe closed the line. Around 1964-65. These were full of the scrap punched steel and curled swarf left over from making cars and lorries. Often it had a light rust coat on the scrap as the wagons only left around once a week.

Many thanks for this Markjj. I had my doubts but have tried this and it has worked a treat. At least I don't have to do this to the track as well as the points.

For some silly reason the bolt heads on the points sit higher than the flexi track ones.

I never had a problem on the flexi track when I had mine.

I'm glad you tried it and its worked for you to.

  9. The 66 will work fine on Peco points if you slice the bolt heads off the chairs. You cant notice they are gone at normal viewing distance. This was a fix someone pointed out a few years back when they built a shunting layout for the 66's. As for Cliff Barker points I have never used them or his track so I cant help there.

This is not a solely Heljan issue since I have had several wagons from Dapol through various retailers which have had quality control issues. The latest being an open wagon with a missing buffer assembly.

    Paul R

At least Dapol are trying to bring some of their production back to the UK. It will be interesting to see how much this eventually alters quality issues ;)

  11. Whilst rubbish models are inexcusable in any form has anyone given a thought to this being a result of the current situation?

I'm guessing someone normally goes out and accepts stuff but freedom of travel may be preventing this. This must compound on top of the usual odd things wrong and dropping off. It may also be that there was a lack of the usual labour to build things again due to the current situation.

Whilst this is no excuse it may answer why Hattons are trying to somewhat limit their loss. Just my thoughts tin hat and flack jacket on lol ;)

Thanks Mark, the van I need is a different van to that one but I presume it is very similar to construct so the link is helpful, thank you.

All the WEP kits are a similar construction so it's easy to get a feel for them. A lot of parts are slot and tab construction.

There are several other van builds on that site though.

  13. I believe the parts supplied in these kits are coated with some kind of Lacquer to enable them to be super glued together. I'm sure there have been other threads on the build of them. If it is coated you will need to clean this lacquer off to get the solder to flow properly. Try cleaning the parts with something like nail varnish remover before trying to solder them.

I am writing a (very) brief history of G gauge for Twickenham MRC's monthly magazine and have one question please.

Many people might assume that the 'G' stands for Garden but I assume it stands for the German word Gross - am I right?

    Thanks

Search "origin of G-scale" on Google and it says G scale stands for Gross Bahn you assumed right ;)
