  1. Hi. I have a super detail Hornby Class 56. Having just sorted out the screeching noise (fixed by lubrication of gear towers as suggested on here) there is now an issue with the lights. All head and tail lights worked fine before, but now only red tail lights in one direction only. The brass wire connections in cab areas look ok, and can’t see any wires that have disconnected. Any suggestions as to what might be the culprit areas to investigate? Thanks in advance...
  2. Yep, agree with the above. Some sort of corduroy type material should do the trick - and mine hasn’t left threads.
  3. How did it go ? Really useful advice above. I similarly had an airbrush for years before recently plucking up courage to use it, and only after reading the books by Welch and Dent referenced above. I use acrylics, and combo of air brushing and dry brushing. One suggestion not noted above - rather than launching into weathering locos or wagons, I found it easier to start with air brushing an inconsipcuous area of track (ballasted) and some scenic areas of the layout. That allowed me to build up my confidence and the "feel" of the airbrush controls, and then move on to locos, like this '58'. Good luck!
  4. Thank you ! Sorry if a silly question, but why different at either end ?
  5. I’m replacing the headcode panels on a Bachmann 47 using Extreme Etchings / Shawplan brass panels. There is already lighting in the 47, so I’m wondering what is the best way to fill the two holes that will still let light through but look ok... ? Grateful for suggestions.
  6. Hi, I have a 21 pin sound chip from a Class 20. Probably about 5 years old. I’ve attached a couple of pics. Any idea what speaker would be suitable, ie how many ohms ? Thanks for any advice...
  7. Mid1980’s. There were still some in service in 1984/85 but all gone soon after that.
  8. Grateful for advice. I have had a Heljan OO gauge 58 for many years. It has recently developed a problem where it stops, restarts, stops etc. I have removed and cleaned wheels and contacts, changed DCC decoder, detached connectors to light circuits but all to no avail. Have also searched on here. Could it be the circuit board? Is this a known problem? Cheers...
  9. I have a couple of the Britannia Pacific OO gauge ones - photos attached... Definitely good enough for my purposes.
  10. Looking for at least one of these Hornby X9784 coupling cams for current a Class 56 model. I’ve managed to break one...
  11. Just a thought, but might it be when the wheels of the stock go over the central plastic part of the point (the frog/common crossing). If you are using some older coaches or wagons, then the wheels can have larger flanges which touch the frog. Does it happen with all your locos/coaches ?
  12. Perhaps just cut some plasticard to shape, paint black and then add domino transfers ? Sheets of plasticard are available online in various thicknesses - I got a pack of mixed thickness for a few pounds, and have found it very useful for things like this. If you get it wrong, it's easy enough just to cut another one until you get a snug fit. Obviously domino lights won't illuminate though. Good luck with the 25 - I have several sound fitted ones and they are my favourite for using on the layout.
  13. Looking really nice - the effort you have put into planning it looks like it is really paying off. Looking forward to seeing more pictures as it progresses.

Well done. I'm looking forward to the day/month/year when my modelling gets that far.

  17. Not sure if right place to post and not wanting to offend original poster - but just wanted to record appreciation for a fantastic service from DC kits / Charlie/Ian. I recently bought numerous sound decoders and got excellent advice, swiit delivery and after care when there was a minor problem. I didn't know anything about a fire, so it can't have been easy for them but the service I received was excellent. Pat
  18. Hi - interested to know how you added the extra pick ups to the Whistler, as my 40 is a bit juddery and this would surely help... Is it just brass wire of a small diameter soldered to the brass section in middle of bogie, and then bent to touch the inner surface of the wheels ? Cheers.
