  1. It seems quiet on here tonight, don't tell me you've all gone and done some modelling?!?!?

Modelling? we can't have that... we've got bandwidth to use ;-)

Sorry, I had a pressing engagement on eBay. Did I miss anything? :-)

  2. The Roger Siviter book? Yes, I've got a copy of that from way back - it is a bit of a disappointment now when I read all the captions... Well done on the wiring Jeff. And you're just making Andy jealous - I wouldn't be surprised to see him start a new project just so he can do the reverse of what you've done today - in the same time!
  3. To me it sounds like you've got a few curved turnouts from a dodgy batch - probably means the wrong track gauge was used to hold the rails at one end. At least you know what to do with it. Jason, I can imagine the pressure to post can get to you if you have a popular thread. But as you say, it's a useful to be able to get that feedback - hopefully before you go too far down that road.
  4. I hadn't thought about it like that - with my little layouts, it's hard to distinguish between the task (or de-conflict them), and make them separate projects. And of course with all of us watching, you don't get a chance to slack off Hope you don't have too much trouble with the curved points...
  5. Has once again forgotten that weekday mornings are for going to work, not playing on RMWeb...

Playing? Playing? You mean there are people allowed on here who don't take it all very seriously indeed? Sprung buffers are REALLY important don't you know?

You are not alone Mrs B has commented on the error of my ways...

  6. EM is something that is tempting me - I've not got a lot of stock to convert, nor any other layout to try and run stock on. And given that the club N-Gauge is going code 40 EasyTrack purely for the look, I think I want to do the same in 4mm. And as Jason says, it's a challange, but an achievable one. Having more than one project on the go can be a good thing though - it gives you the chance to take a breather, do something else, and come back with fresh eyes before you continue improving things on the original project.
  7. Looking good there Jason, and all the better for having got the diagonals the right way round... What have you used for the ground in the yard? Is it some form of ballast?
  8. Hmmm... I suppose it's there to make you aware of new threads with matching tags - there are other ways of following the threads you are already aware of... I wonder how Jeff is getting on with the skipping this morning? Do you reckon his managed a bit more today? Or is he all tied up in the skipping rope and in need of rescuing?
  9. Andy, the list in each thread is just 5 assorted threads with the same tags - if you want to see a list of all the threads tagged 'Lunester Layout', click on the tag where it appears on the page - that will bring up a list of every thread that is tagged that way. Alternatively, you can follow the thread, and find it through the 'Content I follow' link in the dropdown menu you get by clicking on your username right at the top of the page. I think I agree with the grass last approach, as you say, you can grow it around the base of the structures. Unfortunately, that means you need the structures before you start growing... More accurately, it shows the last 5 started threads with the same tags...
  10. I'd be careful saying things like that Andy, it sounded very much like "I'll do some for you"... Now, do you do the stonewalling before or after the grass?
  11. Contestant one - 14, Contestant two - 12, Jeff - 21(bonus point for supplying the other correct answer :-D )
  12. Sounds sensible to leave it till later - saves pulling it up and relaying it all when it doesn't work with the scenic plan... I'm known for being able to remember details at work - I believe the correct phrase is "infamous" for it. (Apparently you shouldn't ask design authorities why they have made contradictory decisions...) Thinking of which, have you sorted the sleepers under the tunnel mouth yet? Probably worth doing them before the scenics get too advanced. I noticed the videos carefully hid them from view... I remember your waddling 3MT comments, not sure where they were though. I've reconstituted the original post, not as good, but it still tells the story...
  13. Luckily I had read your ealier post before it disappeared. Thank you for those comments, they cheered an otherwise dreary morning Doing a bit of skipping at a time sounds a good plan! Oh, I will, just need someone to do that for me
  14. I don't know about amusing stories, but I can probably dredge up boring ones about most topics Good luck with the skipping Jeff, hope you manage it without breaking things you want to keep... Edited to add: I can't remember if you've mentioned doing it, but the old pictures you've used to show progress through the wiring show missing bits of track (headshunts, sidings, etc), have you layed those bits yet? Or are you saving them till later?
  15. Hi Scott, it's good to see you making progress now the building work has been completed. I don't think I'd realised just how expansive the shed was going to be till you laid it out on the benchwork.

  17. Bill, Do you know which of the two lines were used as the single-line to the station? I think you may need to consider that in your reversed track plan to ensure you still get the same sort of operations that the original had. One thing that worries me is the facing crossover your plan introduces - I'm not sure about the L&Y, but a lot of railway companies would avoid facing points as much as possible. Looking at the original plan, that is the case - both crossovers are trailing, yet all the needed moves are possible. Would it be possible to rearrange the station throat to give you a trailing crossover at that end?
  18. Good progress Jeff. Once you get into a rhythm you do start knocking down the numbers quite quickly. Am I the only one that starts worrying when everything seems to be going so well?
  19. Which way was the single slip? Remembering that the plan has been flipped, the 'handedness' of the station may have changed, so facing / trailing crossings have changed too? I can see why it might be a single slip creating a crossing - rather than being used as a bay, it could have been further siding space, and therefore didn't need direct access to the running line? If there were two sidings there originally, it makes slightly more sense, as they would be accessible from the downline when shunting the yard.
  20. Really should remember that monday mornings are not for lying in bed reading RMWeb...

Sounds a better idea then getting up, going to work, and getting told you've made lots of errors...

  21. On the other hand Jason, how many of those posts have been of the highest quality, and inspired people to get out of their current modeling rut and try something else? (Sandside Builds a Cart Shed, your 'How I build a building' series, your countless posts about kettles ) I think it's like Monty Python and The Two Ronnies - if you're cutting edge, you get some failures, but when it works, you get something that is completely and utterly brilliant. Fork handles anyone?
  22. Hi Mike, Thank you for the offer - I suggest we move the discussion over to my 4MT thread so as not to clutter up Jeff's thread... Though I am amused that now I've got interested in steam locos, Jeff is thinking a lot about diesels. I suppose it keeps the universe in balance. Thinking of which, what effect does all that plaster in the bunker have on the earth's centre of gravity? Is this why we've had two asteroids come visiting in the past few days? Will we all start drifting towards it? Is this why Jeff is taking a trip this week - visiting his father is jus a cover story for his gravitational experiments... www.lunester-conspiracy.com
  23. Good to see you've got something moving Jeff, I guess that'll be quite an inspiration to get more things done in time. Maybe I'll get time to get the 4MT going at home this weekend...
  24. A day of doing those little jobs I haven't done for a while...
