Apologies if someone's already made this point, but the Neyland wagon photo at the start of this thread includes a sack. This would have contained shellfish - whelks, cockles, mussels, etc, literally alive, alive-oh - so not salted or iced.
Mike
Just a footnote to this thread Tom.
Also wanting to diversify my fleet of N Gauge industrials, I've 3D designed some Peckett body-shells which fit the old Minitrix 0-6-0 (Fowler 2f Dock Shunter/BR89 T3 Little Donkey) chassis. No pretence that these are exact scale models - most of the motors are too tall to allow that - but I'm pleased with the results which I've shared at https://www.shapeways.com/shops/maridunian-models
Mike
Depends whether you want to keep the body more-or-less intact. This Ruston-and-Hornsby's very similar - but even younger.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the coupling rods - many works shunters had side-skirts for safety reasons and a plasticard panel attached each side would hide their absence, eg:
http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/y/yarmouth_south_town/index35.shtml
You say "It's a nice little thing" and that's the snag - early diesel shunters tended to be rather ugly things, eg this Armstrong Whitworth from 1933:

They had to appeal to customers used to steam locos, and appearing modern mean't looking like the lorries and cars of that period.
Anyway, it is a lovely loco. I think a coat of black/dark green and some red buffer beams would make it look at home almost anywhere industrial.
Mike
Hi Alex - the locos obviously served the rest of the colliery also, so a small layout like this could ultimately be expanded/joined to something more complex.
Good luck!
Mike
There's a thread on the N Gauge Forum site about the Brynlliw Colliery Landsale Site, which operated a Peckett B2 (1426) and B3 (2114).

Hi - two Farish Austerities wore NCB liveries, a blue 'National Coal Board' and a green 'Robert', both based on actual prototypes. Taking your points about how dated these models are, you can pick them up for £30-£40 on eBay and with a little effort enhance them quite a bit. Here's an article I wrote elsewhere about improving a 'Robert' - http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=41105.msg502990#msg502990 Mike
Thank you for this information, PGH. Having recently scratchbodged another Cannock brake van, I'm planning a similar model of CRC No. 2, as Telford seem to refer to it.
Did you happen to note its dimensions, please, or does it match No. 4 as drawn?
Thanks
Mike
