    Why no pork cat food?

Probably because there isn't much of a pig that we don't eat to be left over for pet food?

  2. I like the idea of adding a fillet on the side of the layout to support the full terrace. It would be a lot easier to model the houses that way. The plan is that there will be a two foot walkway either side of the layout for the operators so that fillet shouldn’t get in the way if it is shaped to the line of the house fronts or the road edge.

  3. One part of my Ipswich layout has a terrace of houses which are slightly angled to the edge of the baseboard. If built accurately to the prototype they will end up with part of the terrace half off the edge of the board. Should I build them in the right place with half houses or should I change the angle so that the whole terrace stays just on the baseboard?

The photo shows the position of the terrace if I stick to prototype position

Anyone know how the “Foundout “ sidings got their name?

It's something I've been intrigued by too, all I can find is a reference from the Ipswich Society

To the west of the island platform were the carriage sidings, known from time immemorial as the ‘found out.’ I can find no-one who now knows why the area gained this appellation – it seems to be lost in the mists of time.

Also did a lot of the setting out work for the new S&C layouts from Halifax jct to East Suffolk Junction prior to  electrification.

I guess I've got you to thank for some of the points I've had to build for the layout then? I particularly like the straight run of points leaving P2 heading down and across to the Up main. Where the Up and Down main lines curve there is a very visible straight section across the points along the Lowestoft. You can see it clearly here from P3

    Stadler 745 to Norwich

I have used the correct point numbers for all the powered points in the scenic part of the layout :)

Though many of the traders and societies at Warley did use what the NEC provided in terms of the metal frameworks that surrounded their stands and had their names on (I'm not sure if these included tables/shelving or if the traders had to provide them themselves). I've seen the same frameworks used at the LAMMA agricultural show and doubtless they're used at every other event at the NEC as well.

You won't be doing all the little square cut-outs in between each coper then ! I've only got about 10 feet to do but mine are some weird LMS / ScR variation with 4 equally spaced grooves and a coarse brushed (?) criss-cross pattern between them. Fortunately the rest of the station is good old fashioned plain stone slabs.

Platform 2 at Ipswich is more that 15 ft long in OO, add platforms 3&4 at about 12 ft and platform 1 at 7 ft and I think I'll live with the lack of little tiny squares :) Oh and the parcel bay too...

  7. I've cut them in strips, I started with a sheet of 60thou white plasticard, scored lines on the shiny side 10mm apart, lengthways, then scored lines on the matt side 16mm apart, crossways.

After it was all scored I used a fine wet and dry paper to remove any ridges from the scoring and also to scuff the surface a little.

Snapping the sheet along the 10mm score lines gave me 21ft of platform edging, about a third of what I need! Being in strips it should be fairly easy to get the edges even.

Once it is laid I will scribe the edge lines.

60 thou styrene, 16mm x 10mm with some lines scrawked along one edge 1mm apart ?

Granted the strip of tactiles behind them isn't quite so easy.

That's exactly the way I've decided to make them. I don't need the tactiles for 1985.
