Hi Brian. I take my hat off to you. I just cannot bring myself to tackle building diesels. I looked at a number of diesel kits and thought, no thanks.
Interesting comment about the Railmatch satin turning glossy. It's just happened to me on the last new can from my stock. Had to respray it with my new batch of Precision Paints.
The Baby Deltic looks very a very nice job. (So does that Brit & Duchess on the thread)
the varish i uesd was Humbrol satin & not Railmatch
-
It's a current kit. This is the Website... http://www.ukmoderni....com/index.html
Steve did join RMweb himself & commented when I was building his Class 22 kit, which was done as a thread on RMweb3. He doesn't seem to be a current member.
The 22 was a trial enough (especially as my first go at a brass kit!) - I think I'd have given up entirely if I'd had this kit. Brian you have worked wonders with it; if your customer is unhappy with the finished loco then show him this thread- it could've looked a hell of a lot worse!!! He should be very grateful to you!!
He is a member here F-unit
once or twice i have been Very close to giving up on this model
today i have been fitting the glazing all i have left glazing wise is to do is one cab & then the headcode boxes
-
Well the bogie were built up today & the body was given a coat of satin varnish which seams to have gone a bit glossy
on friday i will be fitting the glazing once the varnish has had 48 hours to harden off plus painting the buffer beam black
-
I second that comment, I still have some unfinished kits that got the better of me hidden away in a cupboard gathering dust. I wish I had your commitment
All the best, Martyn.
well i have A added incentive
once i have finished this model i will get payed for building it

well the weather is sunny here at the mo & i have just painted the body blue
so once this is dry i will post some pics
-
And having just read this, may I ask what filler primer is or is it just that? Where do you get it? What make etc please?
Thanks
Ian
it is from Halfords it just a thick yellow primer
if this kit was for me i to would have not finished it but its a commission i have to finish it
-
Well Brian to my uneducated eyes, that coat of paint has improved it's looks no end. I look forward to the finished job.
theres lots of filler primmer which i have sanded under that paint

Well i have now started painting the Baby Deltic
the the underframe & bogies are now black & the body is in primer yestoday the transfres arrived
And if the weather is ok tomorrow i hope to get the ends painted yellow
-
That centre cab window looks a bit wonky too. I don't know how you can fix it because the problem seems to be the poor quality of the casting.
Geoff Endacott
All of the kit is POOR QUALITY not just the castings
-
hope your gettin well paid for this one Brian
Mike
No i am not for this one
heres some pics of the work i got done to the class 23 today
i have built up the steps & fitted them & also fitted the buffers
-
so far today i have built up & fitted the steps on the bogies & fitted the lower body steps
I am now off to fit the buffer housings
-
Hello Brian,
starting to look a bit more like it. I hope that your going to fit some thing behind the body-side radiator grills and the body side steps.
OzzyO.
I will be after the model has been painted & glazes
by lining the in side if the body with a black sheet
-
I admire your perseverance Brian. I would have binned it a long time ago. Frankly, there is no excuse for such poor quality castings or the other major errors in this kit. New moulds aren't that expensive if the patterns are correct, while proper care in the design of the artwork for the etches and test builds to prove the designer got it right should produce a satisfactory kit.
Jol
Thanks Jol
well got the detail parts on never again with this make of kit
i have had to take off the tanks with the slope as this was at the Wrong end of the tanks after looking at photos
so i have had to fill this in the cut the same thing at the other end the reatach to the underframe
just one or two bits left to fit now
-
it all looks poor
well i now have the bogies fitted as well as the tanks i need to raze up the body as its sitting a bit low heres some pics
after lunch it fitting pipe work & all been well the roof grills
-
Well got the 2nd end built up & the brass overlays on then clean up i will still have to give the ends a light filler but i think Primer filler will do it
So here are some pics of the 2 ends
How do you think it looks now
-
well having again look at lots of pics i am going for the brass overlay way
Well so far today i have fitted the whitemetal roof which i then have fitted a brass overlay to me it looks right just having a coffee break them i am going to start the other cab  lets see how that one go's :yeah:
i will post photos of the work later
-
Brian,
I did say in my post that something was wrong and I did not believe it was your building of the kit.
The thing with E.Es. is that if the windows are wrong it will through out all the proposition's of the loco. I would still say that the roof over the engine compartment is wrong, THIS is not your mistake but one of the kit designers. I have read the thread on the class22 by F-unitmad, the designer of the kit seems to admit that there is a problem in that kit but has not said that it maybe in any other kit?
You have got a lot to sort out to get this kit to LOOK right. and it is not a problem of your making
OzzyO.
in my post i was trying to sat its not just this kit but also others in the range as well
Looking at photos the to me there should be more above the windows that you get with the cast parts so by fitting a new brass overlay over the cast one may help it to look right but that will be next week as i have done no more work to this or anythink else as my C.F.S/M.E is play up

Hello Brian,
if you were to build up the cab roof to the body shell roof you may end up with the wrong shape over the cab windows! That would make the whole front end look wrong, is it possible that the nose is to lowdown or that the window frame's are the wrong shape. The window frames look pretty good to me.
Some thing is wrong and I dont think that it's your build.
OzzyO.
Its the kit not me have a look here at F-UnitMad's build of the Steve Beattie kit of a Class 22
http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=32246
He had problems withe the cab roof with that kit as well
