Hi Bob,
We won’t be offering them as single coaches at this time.
Cheers!
Fran
Thanks Fran. I went for a pack anyway - now all I've got to do is find out what the damage is

Apologies if this has already been asked / covered but apart from the packs, will the Mk5A's for example be available as single vehicles?

Not just yet Bob.
Weve finalized the specifications and breakdown of packs and hope to have the final price per pack later tomorrow all going to plan.
Many thanks.

Fran, As the Mk5's have appeared on the website and are open for deposits. Is there anything that shows the total coast of each set?

Just because Transport Scotland is a public sector body doesn’t change the legal position - technically they could only licence their intellectual property (the livery design) to only a single model manufacturer (just as the DfT could in theory only give one manufacturer exclusive rights to NSE livery).
The big difference with public sector bodies however is that such practices would generate considerable bad press and accusations of ‘profiteering’ which means that most such public sector bodies tend to shy away from ‘exclusive’ deals and are generally quite happy to provide permission to multiple manufacturers.
However regardless of the livery angle, the Mk5 coach design remains the intellectual property of a non-public sector body (the builders / leasing company) and either of these are perfectly within their rights to only give permission to a single manufacturer should they wish. As both entities are private sector companies, the ‘in the public interest’ type ethos which can be used on Transport Scotland cannot be applied.
Thats not to say that every private sector company will apply worst case / most stringent obligations to licensing liveries / designs on models of course - but the point remains under UK law they can do so should they wish however much Railway modellers may moan.
Irrespective of the above the livery is the IP of Transport Scotland as stated by Arran. Thanks goodness Accurascale were able to use it as there's not lot of call for unpainted Class 92's hauling equally unpainted Mk5a's.

The images were purely illustrative mock ups for the product launch so they won't be coming like that. Fortunately!
It's an existing image altered by mistake for speed to use in the product launch - go figure....

Bob, from memory the set headed North in late July/early August, after some main line testing between Derby and Birmingham. A shame that our dear late friend Ray Murison isn't around to help answer these questions...
Sadly missed... I think Brian photographed in early August up at the Works. Unusual in itself as the Mk3's were coming to us straight from the LM and were rarely seen as a set there.

Bob, I suspect that the shot was taken on the Old Dalby test track, judging by the length of ropey bullhead track in the foreground. If so, I was indeed on the train and it was taken on 7/6/79 (Derby Day) - I ran a sweepstake amongst the crew on board. The DBSO was 9701 by the way, which was used for all the testing along with 47704.
Thanks John, I wasn't sure as one of the first few came back to us early on for rectification, which I thought was 9701... Brian Daniels has a photo of the set on return from the tests sitting in St.Rollox yard. https://flic.kr/p/9TNTMU

I am sure Dapol will recognise that and they don't need to be concerned about a lack of Mk5 sleepers now.
Well hopefully but it'll need a fair bit of re-tooling...

What an opportunity for a 73/9......

Unless you're modelling The Highlander, then 73/9's it'll be North of Edinburgh....

Maybe 10 years in model railway magazine terms Chris but Loco Hauled Coaching Stock went way back further than that on B.R. - certainly at least 40 years from my memory - and of course used on the railway alongside the considerably older "Carriage" (think Working Diagrams) and the shortened version "Coaching Stock" which covers both LHCS & NPCCS.,

Well done Dave, two awards in one go!

Still there Dave http://www.replicarailways.co.uk/home - maybe just a hiccup with the web site earlier....

the whole thing is an illustrative image it's a long way away from the livery samples. No doubt these images will disappear when they are to hand.

That there was evidence from the horse's mouth that OR had sold out of Scotrail coaches, it wasn't just pure conjecture. That they're now on the OR website is a little odd.
Which was a reference to stock available for further distribution to the retailers as opposed to the stock held by them for their own sales. It may be odd that they are available however its an inescapable fact and there are other retailers who may well still have some. I certainly know of one.
-
Please take heed of what 87029 said in post number 1901 before saying this is all 'speculation' as regards the Scotrail TSOs
I'm not sure of the point you are trying to make Phil, they are still available on their website this morning and also my local retailer has all three variants in stock and only arrived this Tuesday. Clearly some retailers will have run out of them though.

I think the conversation was in relation to the Scotrail livery TSO’s.....they have all but gone within a a day or two....
It is the ScotRail TSO's that are shown available Andy if you or anyone else is looking for them on the OR website....

And many railway coaches too.
You do realise how difficult it was for us to build those ripples into the bodyside

Our lot used to spend an inordinate amount of time maintaining them (so they could run off at peculiar angles)
