Mark, I have a pic of 5038 in 1972 if it helps - it's the same side as the 'derbysulzers' shot but by then it'd lost the valance. <br>

The guard strap/safety hanger mod only takes a couple of minutes and I feel does improve things without spending money on etched parts.
Over the last few years I've throttled back a bit on my detailing but that's something I still do when practical. FWIW I also use flattened staples.
I didn't use the supplied plastic door bangers either.Good man They're too thick; too many people IMO build a kit as it comes, without looking at a prototype photo
Nick - I do get a wobble but I put that down to eccentric wheels, I've found it hard finding Gibson wheels that are concentric.
Sometimes it's the interaction of wheel and bearing, swapping the wheelset onto another wagon can sort it (or at least minimise it). But the tyre-on-plastic composite construction is rarely as reliable as a machined wheel like a Romford.

The other thing worth remembering is that the stripes aren't quite right - they didn't generally go all the way from corner to corner but stoped short with squared ends.
And as ever, study of (too many) photos will reveal other variations

Transfers from the Modelmaster range were applied this afternoon, the only concern I had was that the white diagonal line on the transfer sheet looked incredibly wide.
Thank goodness I'm not the only one - it always amazes me how many folk use them without alteration

Didnt see the original query David, but I can confirm that the brake layout is correct now - the mods you've made to the brakegear mouldings are pretty much what I settled on several years ago. Another way to improve the safety straps BTW is to cut 'em right off and replace with bent-up staples

As David Cross says in the caption in Last Years of the Waverley Route, pictures of EE Type 3s on the WR are extremely rare. Since Stuart's post above on Waverley Route new image links I've still only come up with these four:

I've got a pair of 37 238s and a D6707. Wonder if they'd be good for a nose job!
37238 has the Vulcan grilles - it's not just a D6826 in a different colour

Interesting. Early EE type 3 deployment in Scotland is something I've yet to get a handle on. In the mid-bottom left hand side of Scotland where I focus my attention, I seem to associate them mainly with oil traffic, locos which I presumed were off Grangemouth shed.
I think that's what they mostly settled into, thee heavier work, after the usual spell of 'oo, what can we use our new toys on' - the Glasgow-based locos also wandered up the WHL on freights for a time in the late 60s
I'm also interested in the cantrail grille arrangements for these transferred beasties with a view to three little projects I have in mind!.
Without rushing about in this heat to double check, I'm fairly sure most if not all of these early ScR machines were of Vulcan Foundry build (not RSH as per Bachmann's D6826). Parade, rain, rearrange

There's all sorts of nice moulding work on the body - some very nice grills for example (I never understand why people replace the grills on this model)
Cos it's the 'done thing' Beats me as well Pete, and not just on 73s - Lima has its faults, sure, but some of the mouldings were very nicely done

Shoc's looking good Pete, it's a nice kit with a lot of potential, given the prototype's variations. I never did fathom the variable stanchions on the cattle vans though - they can vary within the same diagram
