Are these to be part of a rake you already have or is it the start of a new rake ?

If you didn't know already it's worth getting hold of some mould oil to coat the shuttering to make it easier to strip out, and prevent damage to the green concrete when you take the timbers off.

Progress on the railway has been slow of late due to work/family commitments etc.

However i have now got the viaduct arch moulding patterns done and with a bit of look hope to get into position ready for concrete this weekend. (weather permitting ).

These were two pieces of 4"x2" nailed together ontop of each other to create a 8"x2" piece.This was done twice for each arch . These were cut to the width of the gap between each pillars and an arc drawn and cut.

So i have 8x templates ( 2 per arch ). I still need to dress the top edge to get rid of any bumps etc. The top edge will be topped with some plastic sheet or whatever i can get cheap as they will be skipped once the viaduct is complete.

I will try and take some pics over the weekend so i can explain a little easier.

This is very interesting. The end results look amazing. Those three cee overlays look very nice once fitted. What glue did you use to attach the overlays ?.

Not sure about the colour of the curtains whilst in maroon.

I have been doing a bit on mk2 underframes. I nearly have another 4x TSO's ready for primer.

This is a very interesting project and im enjoying seeing the different ways of altering the mk1's.

The Hymeks look amazing, just how they used to look late on in there lives.

I will be watching the mk1 build with interest as i have 'nt done one myself but wondered what/how things needed to be done.

Not much of a report more of n up date.

I returned home from my weekend trip to the Telford show this year and managed to get nearly all the points i needed for my garden railway. This was 2x LH , 1x RH and  Y point all second hand ranging from £5 - £30. 

So as soon as i have some time and the weather is dry i will be outside laying more track.

Thanks Rob. I have used stainless steel screws. But i have used brass pins. Cant think for the life of me that a tiny brass pin will affect my boards which have been fastened to 4"x2" using stainless steel screws then covered with roofing felt. I guess time will tell. The main thing is the fist part of the railway the boards have been out over a year and nothing has happened. Even the un touched pieces that i have left out are fine.

OK progress report. Last one for a bit as im away for the next 6 days.

Track has been laid all the way from the lift out bridge to behind the greenhouse.

The next pic show the first point laid. This is the start of the middle bi -directional loop. I have laid the next four yard lengths of track after the point and the next point will be nexy. Unfortunately the next couple of boards still require roofing felt. This will be the next job as soon as i can get outside again.

Each of the main lines and the middle loop should be able to hod loco plus 8 x mk2's .

Took the shuttering off today. Mmmmm well it didnt quite go as i thought .

Firstly i miss calculated with the measurements . The very top of the arch is only about 1 inch thick and i wanted about 3 . Not sure how that happened . Secondly one of the arches slumped so its not really a nice arch more of a 50 pence piece. i will need to render the pillars to blend them to the added arches.

So the plan i think is to somehow add some conrete/render to the underside of the arch using mess and blend all together when rendering the pillars.

I am going to have to think about this. So progress on the viaduct will be a while yet unti i have got some ideas.

Meanwhile i managed to lay some more track. It now has reached the other side of the "step over " bridge. I have laid double track here and have now laid the slab on mortar . Its raining at the moment so no photos im affraid.

Well the rain stopped so off i went outside to lay some more track ................. managed to drill half a dozen sleepers and pin the piece of track down before it decided to rain again. Grrrrrrrrr

Managed to get some track down before the rain set in.

I managed to get the other side of the bridge ( lift out section ) and started the super elevation around the curve. Then came the rain.  .

I still need to cut the track either side of the bridge. This i will do using a cutting disc on the dremel.

Just waiting for the rain to stop then im back out on it.

This is a project that only time will tell if it works the way i want it to. I dont see a problem but you never know.

The lift out section is the same width as all the rest of the line. The only difference is it has a small brace underneath as oppossed to the normal 4x2. This is so it doesnt add extra weight when lifting out.

The arches are " key'd in " with the metal rod that are on top of the pillars.

Well its given rain out later so not sure how much progress can be made today, we will have to see.. Although as long as i get track accross the bridge then that would be great. This will then allow me to lay the track around the top curve and down the back of the greenhouse without the lift out section being in.

Been out in the garden again today so here is the progress report.

The " lift out section" has been fitted using slide bolts to locate. One in each corner. Roofing felt has been applied and is now drying.. Hopefully, weather permitting track will be laid tomorrow.

Next is the section of line around the back of the greenhouse where the line splits, the left fork takes the line around the pond and the right fork carries straight on and will eventually go into the shed which will house Penzance.

Last up is a couple of pics of the viaduct with the concrete going off nicely.

Concrete is now in the first section of the viaduct and will be left for about three days or so to make sure it has gone off properly before removing the framework.

However i will be sorting out the lift out section and laying some more track in the meantime.

Progress in the garden today.

First off the last 8'x4' sheet of Medite Tricoya ( external MDF ) was ordered and delivered yesterday , so this morning it was cut into 8" strips ready for continuation of the board laying around the pond area. This should see a complete circuit in the garden.

I only got chance to cut the " lift out" section prior to having roofing felt applied and then the four slide bolts , one on each corner to keep the board in line whilst running trains. These will in due course be disguised with some sort of bridge. Im thinking of the Royal Albert style bridge although my railway will be double track ,a bit of modellers licence will be used here i think.

Now onto the main activity of the day, the viaduct.

I have spent about 7 hrs making up the frame/shuttering for the arch section of the viaduct. This will be dismantled once the concrete has been applied and gone off. It will then be moved along to the next two arches and the process repeated.

Here are a few pics of the various stages of build.

Tomorrows job will be to mix and add concrete to this section.
