  2. Hi guys,

    A very interesting topic.

D1039 eluded me too.  But i was only 8 at the time.

I missed all the ones that were cut up 73 and 74 as my first trip to Swndon Works was early 75. I was upset to think that i had missed D1032 which was cut 5/12/74 and only just saw D1014 which was cut13/2/75.

  3. Hi,

Thanks for your support, there is a long list of things to be doing on this project but sound chips for the 67's are definitely deemed 'necessary' ! :declare:

It has occurred to me that just in the same way as too much EWS livery can be overpowering, so too can too much Pullman Umber and Cream !

I think a few speciality liveries may be in order......?

    That's all for now,

    Kindest Regards,

    Shed.

    Hi Shed,

Just caught up with this thread. Very interesting. I particularly like VSOE pullmans. Which is the pullman being re-furbed ?.

  4. Hi Peter,

I too like Phill do like a bit of "cutting and bashing" stuff. I have done the big big cut n shut on the mk2's ( pics to be found on my workbench thread ).

You have some very interesting projects on the go and i will be watching with interest. The " Lion " one is a interseting project which i will keep a close eye on.

    Keep up the excellent work.

    Regards Rob

  5. Bit of an up-date. Although not much to report it is progress.

First up is i have got the first coat of primer on another mk2 TSO and also a dia 733  Brake Stowage Van ( BPOT ). Obviously they will need another couple of coats but i use this first one as a witness coat to highlight any areas that need rubbing down/work etc.

You can see that now the first coat of primer is on it has highlighted some "issues" with the roof on the mk2 TSO so this will be donw as soon as i get chance.

Next up is some work on the roof to the dia 731 Sorting Van ( POS ).

This has a large panel that lies on the roof at one end which is a panel that covers VHF radio aerials. This will be made out of a piece of plasticard. I have marked and drilled out where the roof vents go and glued these into position.

I have also started a dia 720 which has the large side windows and net recess and i will post pics of progress on this soon.

To finish off here is a pic of my scratch built Tool Van which will be part of my Laira Breakdown Train.

  6. Got in a bit later from work than normal tonight so didn't get as much done as i would have liked.

I still managed to nearly finish the corridor side.

This as you saw in the previous posting i had masked off and painted the wooden panels. I have now done the black panel at the bottom of each door and used painted (alluminium ) micro strip for the frame. This has been glued into position.

I have just in the last ten minutes put the FIRST class signs and NO SMOKING signs on the compartment windows.

I will take some pics at the weekend.

And here is the Railtec ones for comparison, although these are for a CCT.

Next pic shows the Mk2 FK seats , partitions and now headrests painted.

This is the corridor side masked off one side and its first coat of wood colour. You will notice that the angle part off one end has snapped off this will be re-attatched in situ.

The next stage on this will be remove the tape and do the same to the other side. The panel at the bottom of each compartment door is black so this will be done as well.

Just a question , with waterslide transfers you can see the carrier film. Is there a way of reducing the visibility of this?.

  8. Hi Ian, No not really they go together pretty well. Although i think soldering the solebars with some scrap brass as strengtheners is better than glueing onto the mdf floor. But its about preference.

When tyou do get round to building dont forget to start a build thread on it.

They are 3 of the GUV's ( Westdale ) although i have just noticed one has no buffers :stinker:  The 4th GUV is right at the bottom of the pile and i cant be bothered to move everything at this moment. This is W86530 running as a Newspaper Van.

    OK on to the mk2's.

I have started the corridor side and will post some pics when i have done something worth taking a pic of. Meanwhile the pic below shows the FK just having its seats painted before i then paint the partitions to represent wood panelling.
