  1. Hi,

I was very disappointed to see that the EOI comment for this in the current September Railway Modeller, and for the GT3/Fell/Shark projects, was 'lost' near the end of a headline heavy Leader/Clayton 00 heading.

As I've commented previously on this issue with another suppliers EOIs, I do wonder how many N gauge modellers would have bothered on the off-chance to read all the way through the item to find something maybe relating to their own interest! I only did so because that was precisely what I expected to find!

    Regards, Gerry.

    Hi there,

No, otherwise it wouldn’t be a deadline!!  Honestly, with so many projects on the go right now, and plenty of other ideas for the next 12 months, this one has to force its way into the programme.  Much as we’d love it!

I am hoping that the news that it’s returning to mainline use on charter trains - so can, plausibly, end up on any electrified route - will give it a boost.

    cheers

    Ben A.

I can certainly understand the reasoning, but I would offer the following observation.

I quickly registered my EOIs for both the Cl89 and Caroline in N, and although if either fail to make the numbers I might be disappointed I am sure there are others who might have greater feelings about the missed opportunity.

There is an excellent prompt in the current N Gauge Journal (Jul-Aug 4/20) which arrived today with a 4 page round-up of RevolutioN N projects and a back cover advert, but I do note that the news coverage in the 2 monthly magazines I get – Model Rail and Railway Modeller – seems to me a little bit lost.

In MR 275 (July) there is a heavy emphasis on these as OO announcements, with the N EOIs as brief bullet points at the end of both.

In RM (July) Caroline gets the same treatment without a bullet point to hopefully draw any attention to it, and I guess because it refers to Rails of Sheffield there is no mention at all about N Cl89 EOI that I can see.

I can’t help feeling that those N-gaugers who browse the monthlies for their main information sources, at least in these two cases, and are not NGS members or followers of the RMweb/NGF forums may not be aware because the OO emphasis might have meant they’ve glossed over these magazine news items altogether.

I don’t intend this as a criticism, just as an observation if the EOIs fail to reach sufficient levels.

    Regards, Gerry.

Good evening Ben I'm looking at ordering some of you're fantastic looking IPA wagons and didn't realise the early bird offer ended tomorrow. Quick question before I place the order, it gives you the option to pay a deposit or in full. If I only pay a deposit will the remaining price to pay still be the early bird price or do you need to pay in full only for the early bird offer. Hope that makes sense.

    Regards Gary

    Hi Gary,

From considerable experience I can confirm that the deposit does indeed secure the earlybird price, so when your balance becomes due you'll have no worries on that score.

My ever growing collection in N has almost always been funded this way as I tend to over indulge in quantity...

  5. Hi,

I've quite enjoyed these and am wavering somewhere between "harmless" and "mostly harmless" when I consider the presenter personality aspect, so much so that when he turned up a couple of times on the Nighy voice-overed Scenic Railways last week it barely registered...

The scripts Bill is given leave a little room for the rare giggle here and there, but that just adds to his endearing persona in my view.

On the livestream that was held on 26th, there was a mention of the Class 92. However my internet was a bit slow so the video lagged and buffered a bit.

Either Ben said they will be with us in approx 5 weeks time

                                                    or

Ben said they will be shpping from China in about 5 weeks time

Hopefully Ben/Mike can clarify this. I'm absolutely excited by this.

    Hi,

Just to add clarity, Ben stated Rapido had notified RevolutioN just before the Bank Holiday weekend that shipping was expected in 5 - 6 weeks.

The livestream is available on the RevolutioN website:

    http://www.revolutiontrains.com/revolution-trains-facebook-live-3-2/

the mention is at about 36mins in.

Unfortunately they don't state any curve radius requirements/compatibilities on their site.

    Hi Ben,

I knew I'd seen something on this, looking back on this topic purely at Ben A posts I found:

The model is specified for 12" curves but I suspect it will manage 9" at a push.   The rear pony pivots.

    With clarification promptly following:

I understand that the model will cope with curves down to a radius of 228.5mm, which is a fraction under 9 inches.

Post Dave Jones, Dapol have significantly dialed back their N Gauge development with only a couple of new tool items announced, one of which seems to be in a state of permanent limbo. I Just can't see Dapol committing to a new N gauge project of APT proportions given their current direction and in this scale it's probably a type that better fits the RevolutioN model of establishing demand before production anyway.

With Bachmann's own problems persisting this would seem like the perfect time for Hornby to take advantage of the situation, build on the groundwork of the Brighton Belle and steal a bigger piece of the N Gauge market for themselves, but there is no sign of any will to do so from Margate whatsoever. The Class 800 would have been a perfect example to scale down. A new train in service with several operators over a wide area of the country and likely to see many, many liveries over their lifetime meaning plenty of opportunity to recoup the cost of the tooling. but instead they sat back and let it be picked off by Kato.

    Tom.

    Hi,

It seems to me that at least some people are either confused, or maybe clutching at straws, when it comes to the Arnold Brighton Belle.

Simon Kohler made it very clear just after the BB was announced that it had:

    Quote

    ...nothing to do with Margate...

Well, with Hornby back at Margate and SK back at Hornby I am certain the prospect of a sudden turn around from there is among the most unlikely of things that can be expected to happen.  The recent BB re-issue being more about return on investment than any fundamental change in attitude towards N.

It could be seen to signal to other manufacturers that the way is almost certainly clear to develop their own, but who will want to risk the level of investment solely in an N gauge APT-P project?

I can't help wondering if Kato, having announced the Class 800 as an almost inevitable opening for them into British Prototypes, might be tempted by a big project as iconic as anything that has operated on British rails?  They have a history with multiple units, and might just possibly see it as a way to raise their brand name in this country to a higher degree than the, to outsiders at least, bewildering number of important but notionally mundane mu subjects to follow on from the Class 800.  They probably could create quite a spread of interest in their already established world wide market, their Japan-centric mu sets do have such a following.

At present, although it isn't a r-t-r project, progress has continued on a 3D printed set and may deliver a viable 'one piece at a time' certain solution for those willing to take on that challenge.

    Regards, Gerry.

  10. Hi,

When the steam-driven boy saw the topic title his first thought was about having to add OO to his addiction. He's relieved to see it's only resulted in a much needed Monday morning outburst of laughter and a feeling of sadness for the beloved B-L brand name.

...I think in Model Rail a few years ago, It showed you how to make a OO scale version and it had the scale plans too. I still have it and I can make a copy of it and e-mail it to you if you want it. Send me a PM and i'll find it for you. I don't think you can reproduce the article on here as it may infringe copyright laws.

    Hi,

Although I no longer have a copy of the mag my old 'puter magazine database shows there was an article of 3.5 pages in the August '06 Model Rail by Robert Stephens, one of a series on wagon scratchbuilds, comprising 4mm templates for the major parts along with prototype and model photos.

There are regular 4mm plans, including a larger scale side view of the end latching mechanism, in Railway Wagon Plans 1960s to the Present by John L Fox.

    Hi Tom,

From Mike on the NGF 27/11/19:

    Quote

This was a difficult decision, but the choice boiled down to 3 options:
    - sell as a pair
    - sell singly at a significantly higher price (and significantly increase the risk that we wouldn't meet minimum order numbers)
    - not produce the KUAs

Once you narrow it down to that sort of choice then it became clear (to us at least) that the best thing was to offer them as pairs...   ...but the alternatives would have been no KUA or KUA at a much higher unit cost. When we looked at the size and complexity of the KUAs we think that this is a competitive price for such a beast of a wagon!

Having said all of which sales in the first 24 hours have been very good - thanks to everyone who has supported it!

    HTH.

    Regards, Gerry.

    Hi Ben, Mike,

    Great News.

Do you have a time frame for delivery?

Will the wagons some complete with a Cawoods container?,

Will they be available wagon only so I can fit my c rail coal containers?

I'll be looking at 30 roughly what size 2nd mortgage will I require?

    Hi,

In the hope of helping out Ben and Mike just a teensiest bit you might find the following of help.

Ben replying to the query on the NGF 24/11/19:

We intend producing as many different containers as is feasible.  Initially I am sure the low level waste containers and Cawoods will be part of the project.

And buying the wagons unloaded will also be an option.

The PFAs will be listed very soon! Ben and I just need to agree a couple of things.
