  5. Thanks for the shout on the 08, your 09 will be done shortly!! Looking forward to seeing this layout progress. I wouldn't get too carried away with the car thing though. Cars don't move on layouts so don't brake! Maybe a traffic jam would look better, you can add loads of brake lights there!!!! Cav
  6. The Mansfield show was a cracking affair, glad I could help mate. Anyway, looking good Neil, I would use a nice urban photo backscene with this one to give it much needed depth. Will work a treat I reckon. My only concern if any is the fuelling road, looks a bit tight for a really long loco like a 60 or 66. You seem to have a little room to extend it a bit before the road though if you need to. As for the wiring, I would just isolate the points completely at the crossing end and then take extra feeds to the sidings. I always find it better to hard wire the point blades so that you no longer have to rely on the switch rails picking up off of the main rails. Gives better running IMO, the three way is a bit more complex though as there are polarity issues where the two opposing switch rails cross each other. Would be simpler to feed the DCC into the toe and leave the switching pick ups to the point. Any issues being stopped by the isolating fishplates. I just don't like to do that!! lol Whats your plan for the fiddle yard? Cassettes? As for Torkardlanes ideas, anythings possible, except perhaps breeding 1:76 scale foxes!! The moving cctv camera is a cracking idea though which I may have to blatently steal for Outon Road!! Cheers Cav

  11. If you are going for scale and accuracy then C&L or Exactoscale is the way to go, not marcway. I find their track a little basic TBH. Never really a fan of the rail soldered to sleepers with no chairs melarky. You can add cosmetic chairs but the C&L and Exactoscale with their lovely chairs etc are far better. Its easier to build than you would think too. As for RTR track, I would go SMP or C&L for plain wooden sleepered track (I tend to use SMP as Marcway is only up the road for me) and fast track base with code 80/82 rail for concrete track (not strictly RTR but near enough for the better track you get) As for points no RTR track is really correct for UK but have read this I like the idea of the tilig. Pre darkened code 83 rail (which would work with the fast track base and code 80/82 rail) slight fexibility so that you can make more flowing designs and single bendy point blades. There are no RTR suppliers of bullhead pointwork to compliment the SMP but Peco code 75 will fix to it with minimum fuss. I think its safe to say there is no 'Best track' its all down to preference. I personally would sooner spend my cash on a decent exacto point kit than a similarly priced tilig point, and for me Peco, or even more so Hornby, should be fiddle yard fodder. I'm sure there are others that would disagree though. However I don't think that code 100 has any business on a serious layout nowadays. In fact when I flopped open my latest copy of Model Rail this month I seriously thought that the cleckhuddersfax layout was N gauge on first look, the track looked so course (no critisisation of the layout I must add, just a realisation on my part). I guess we all get so used to seeing the fine stuff these days that code 100 sticks out a mile. Cheers Cav

  13. A firm well done to Dave (Waton), the layout has I'm sure tempted a few to try 2mm scale. Of course all of the entries were excellent and a firm well done all 'round I think. I'd also like to thank everyone who voted high for Outon Road. It's a great pleasure to bring something to the table that can hopefully inspire others. I intend to keep working on Outon to hopefully bring even more in the future. Happy new year and thanks to all. Cav

    Looks excellent just what the doctor ordered, I'm planning a 20ft by 10ft build in my garden with 5ft of it partitioned off at one end for my respray work. The rest would be for workshop stuff and probably a resident layout of about 15ft x 3ft. I need to get the cash together though as these things aren't cheap even with my materials obtained through working in the buiding profession as I do, so would probably have to be a replacement for my loft project.
