  1. That looks really good Neil. Very well done with the dirt in all the nooks and crannies. Id be very tempted to hit the chassis with the powders too. Your wet powder technique might be able to add bit of caked on texture too. Cav
  2. Yeah ripple lane was an 8er Neil. It was converted from a later central headcode box loco rather than a splitty as the 7s were. The problem with 37s is that every subclass has different body details so switching sub class is never a quick fix. The only ones you can do really are 3ers from low numbered locos and 4s to 6ers and vice versa. Even then there are subtle detail differences. Cav
  3. Even better with its sister!! Cav PS if the car park belongs to Deeping Lane depot then they are already trespassing so no lawsuits needed!!
  4. I dont know if thats fact or not Ill look it up, certainly these fences do angle in as you have suggested but Im not 100% on the reason. Its difficult to climb either way but I would go so far as to say its harder to climb the way Neil has done it, bird table principle, however if its angled away from the property then the top of the fence would be outside of the property line of what its protecting thus encroaching over someone elses boundary hence it usually angles inward. It then of course has the added bonus of trapping intruders inside but Im sure thats just a nice side effect! Neil may well be justified leaving it as the car park I assume also belongs to Deeping Lane depot. Im gonna do some digging I think. However if you are in fencing or sonething then I apologise for doubting your knowledge. As a mischeivious kid I have climbed such fences and used my coat over the top to scale the wire. I could only do it one way. With the wire going away from me. Edit: Bit of research done. Link to page. The human resistance bit mentions wire leaning towards the intruder. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbed_wire
  5. The cheap decoders are fit for the bin. I intend to replace all of mine as cash allows. Neil that fence looks a lot better. I intend to have loads of that stuff on Outon Phase 2. Think I need a new pack to do what I plan. Leon heres a pic of my Vitrains redone as 37 707. Is this what youre after? cheers Cav
  6. Nice what you got? or is it a surprise? By the way the weathering is coming on a treat you wont need me to do them soon!
  7. You need to let me get my hands on it with my weathering kit though first Chris! haha
  8. I tend to use matt clear cote through the airbrush. I dont even know if you have an airbrush ive never asked. I personally find it hard to get a matt finish with a brush. Always seems to dry satin for me no matyer how much I stir it. Humbrol matt varnish might do you for these as although usually drying with a very slightly cloudy finish it might give the illusion of slightly faded paint I dont know. Experimentation is the name of the game really. Cav
  9. Thats a cracking job on the OCA Neil. Are you varnishing the powders in? Cav
  10. Screwlink Screwlink haha. If i can use screw links on Outon with all the overhead wires then you can! I have to echo the progress side though. Im finding it a nightmare to find time at the mo. Managed to get some interior modelling done last night on my gatehouse though. I aim to get it completely done tonight so I can move on to the board tomorrow. Cav
  11. That looks really good mate. Blue is always a winner in the wrinkly tin stakes hence the building on Outon Road. I originally did that grey but changed it to blue. I like the way you have given it a worn look. Very effective.
  12. Its a good idea but I agree it needs to be short and to the point. I did a two pager for DEMU which I pinned to the front of the layout but not many people actually read it. Most ask questions about the build personnally which I like as I get to natter. lol.
  13. I like the idea of a brochure. That might have to be something I do once the extensions done. What will it be a brief history, specs and photos? Cav
  14. I dont tbink I would use cream. maybe try to replicate weathered galv steel. I always think a light blue works well on wrinkly tin buildings.
  15. Looking good mate. The paving slabs are particularly nice IMO. One thing I would avoid though is using stock wheels as scenery. Real axles arent the same as the model pinpoint counterparts so give the game away I always feel. If you want axle sets then I would get hold of some P4 standard wheels with the tiny flanges and then try to make a representation of the roller barings on the axles. Cheers Cav
  16. Loved this at the members day Marc. its all about atmosphere and even with the intense heat in the hall I fancied getting my coat on! As an ex steelworks research technologist it brought back a few memories of walking round the less trodden areas of teeside and aldwarke. What would really give this layout some beans is some recorded steelworks sound. All the banging and distant hum of the arc furnaces etc would be fantastic. Those things are undbelievably loud. I visited magna in sheffield about 6 years ago and they have a simulated arc furnace there. I can tell you the simulation is no where near as loud as the real thing! Great work Cav
  17. How much you asking chap?
  18. Oooh that 47 is a thing of beauty. I like a lot.
  19. Same pw team as working on outon road. maybe deeping is their home depot haha. like what youve done. you should give them a dirty wash though now to tone them down and create false shadow on their clothing! Cav
  20. Thats starting to look really good. i almost wish i could get away with one on outon. Im still trying to justify one of bachmanns new 85s when they come out! Cav
  21. Yeah cool. Will have to see whether your stock will go through my trackwork though as the points are built to 1mm flangeways which widens the back to back a smidge. Some rtr goes through fine but others bind. Easy fix on most stuff. Not so on steamers and shunters with their quartered wheels. We'll have to have a play on the day. Cav
  22. The weathering looks top notch mate. I wonder who did that? A good camera makes a load of difference mate. I got a digital SLR especially to take model shots! I havent had it out for a while though. Cav
  23. Excellent, in fact its a shame about the coupler and blurred shot of the 09 by the shed as that would look very realisic indeed.
  24. At request I've added this one of Outon Roads resident shunter, longsight's 08915. Regards Cav
