    I resemble that photo 😅

    Nice to chat earlier Paul.

That's my 2 days at the show done, avoided the burgers and baps, the smell of which was wafting in the front doors making us hungry, so settled on a takeaway tonight. I enjoyed the show, even though a lot of the layouts weren't my cup of tea there was some very good modelling on show. Hopefully we did our small part to help entertain people on the DEMU stand and help promote the diesel and electric powered side of the hobby.

Just doing a bit of research for weathering/graffiti for the incoming HOAs.

Here's an easy couple to do. links to flickr pic

    HTA 320008 Peterborough

    HOA 320013

It's a particular flow for the glass industry that causes that weathering. Went to somewhere in the Merseyside area, I think there was something added to stop the load blowing on the wind, which made the wagon side sticky.

Those on Mendip and Tarmac work down here weathered a lot more traditionally!

  3. Talking with a friend we reckon Newey is Aston bound, and possibly what has kept Fernando there for the future? It's known Daddy Stroll made Adrian a big bucks offer at one of the earlier rounds.

Ah so it's succumbed to the Jacobs cracker branding also

Interesting how things get names. At work the Jacobs crackers were the RMC hoppers out of Whatley.

The Colas diamonds we call the diamond geezers.

Of note, both this and 67027 have blue rectangles of vinyl over the GBRf logo as they are painted, not vinyled, so can't be removed. The blue isn't a perfect match to the paint.

Does Chiltern trains still have a slam door mk3 set ?

(iirc they have several sliding door sets but wasnt their one slam door set still around or has it gone now ?)

this set was still listed in April 2022 on the part time spotter site, but its not been since.

    AL05 11094 12012 12019 12027 12041 12115 12151 12026

Nope, it went a while back. There should have been an ex Anglia set (better nick and toilet tank fitted) to replace it when the 90s went, but Covid saw to that. It was done at Eastleigh, and retained Anglia livery but with blue doors.

I just wondered when I saw the Manchester - Cardiff train pass by yesterday, from a not-very-detailed glance the doors looked pretty much like I always remember them being.

Odd-looking train though, appears to have been cobbled together from whatever was lying around, 67, four coaches (IIRC) and a DVT.

Mk4s on the TFW loco hauled for the last few years, which have always been power doors.

    CIGs ran until 2010.

any advance on that for something without cdl ?

No doubt someone will correct me if wrong, but the Lymington CIGs appear to have CDL fitted. 1497 and 1498 had retrofitted panels on the lower doors, to the same design as 121032, and likely the Chiltern bubbles too.

Looking at the skintones, it seems that something went wrong with the colour balance in the Photoshop workflow...

It's the real deal, looks like they've been lit by blue and red lights from opposite sides.

Many thanks. Yes I'm looking at the past decade, I've watched many many videos on YouTube and looked at pictures on smugmug and flickr and I've never seen the Hanson JHAs in the same train as the Yeoman JHAs.

That's pretty much it, mixing the Yeoman and Hanson wagons was very rare in that time frameYou may on occasion get a Yeoman and Hanson set joined together to form a jumbo, and this would have been from Westbury to Acton, but this would be very rare and something I think I've only ever seen once, after severe disruption, perhaps a snowy weekend? I have never seen a photo of such a move, the one time I can recall was a Sunday night. Note that this is two separate trains being moved to London on one service, rather than the wagons being mixed to make one train.

HOAs, IIAs and HTAs have regualry been mixed with both quarry's JHA fleets, the HTA use finishing when DB ceased to haul the Mendip traffic. As mentioned, subsequently cut down HHAs and HYA/ IIA coal hoppers have been introduced since Freightliner took over.

    .

In 1998 there was a period that an ARC set was working out of Merehead, but this didn't last long and I can think was likely to be either Merehead were short, so a Whatley set was provided to add capacity, or the end customer was an ARC site, but wanted a product that could only be obtained from Merehead. This is definitely the exception that proves the rule.

Once both Dapol and Rails have approved the decoration, then Rails will hopefully share the pictures and it it will be "go" for production.

Looks great livery application, especially the frosty detail. The colours look great too. No doubt you've got a list already of tweaks Adam, a couple of things I've noticed.

    Pic linked from flickr:

    88010 & 68017 6M63 Worle, 20-11-2023.

    - The large white text should have a blue stroke (same colour as blue end of loco) to make it stand out from the frosty image behind (present both sides)

    - The DRS logos and numbers on the white end are black or navy on the sample, but should be a mid blue.

    - Front end number on the white end is blue, appears to be black on the blue end. Again, Flickr Links below:

    SLATEFORD 88010 AURORA, 68004 RAPID 88010+68004 4Z43

Hope that's a help, it looks to be shaping up nicely.

The photograph originated in the US.

The picture is a bland miserable GM MPV, marketed in Latin America as  Chevrolet Zafira. The fact it is so bland makes me sad that I can identify it!

Is there something about 4x4 drivers..........

Looks like a Mk1 Zafira to me, very much 2WD territory.

And no, I'm not proud that I can identify such a dull car from such a small snapshot...

Interestingly Ricciardo also hit Piastri in the same incident, damaging his diffuser - before Stroll hit him.

Severity of the impact the deciding point perhaps, and the fact Stroll can be seen not looking at the traffic ahead? A love kiss between the Aussies, vs Stroll slamming into the rear, lifting Ricciardo up into the air.

Lance Stroll seems well out of his depth, but unless daddy buys a Formula E team I can't see him shifting.

  14. I'm convinced the general road using population are getting more selfish or less understanding of the rules of the road.

Pet peev this week, people not giving way when the obstruction is their side. My 45 minute drive to work one day this week seem to have disproptionate percentage of this sort of behaviour, you know, one of those days it feels they're all out to get you! Best one was a 7.5 tonner just charging past parked cars forcing me and others on the pavement to take avoiding action, luckily with drop curbs so no damage occured!

    Still appearing here...empties to Tytherington

Indeed, here's Tug 46 going the other way with a loaded Tytherington train this morning. Woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep so made the most of the sun. I didn't expect to have to scrape the ice off the car today!

    60046 6Z51 Keynsham

DC Rail's 60046 approaches Keynsham working 6Z51 Tytherington - Appleford. Not something I do often, but a telegraph wire has been edited out.

  16. A throwback to the heady days of 2019, uploaded to Flickr a couple of days back.

    Two Tugs at Westbury

At the time, with a trio of 60s working in the area, this wasn't a particularly unusual sight, you just needed to time it right. 60044 in the background has been run round and is ready to depart for the quarries (I think it's 6V62 Southampton - Whatley) and 60039 is stabled after a day's shunting the yard. Despite most of the overhauled 60s looking the same when they left Toton, by this time there was quite a few little variations, such as the branding. 60044 has had the Schenker removed, leaving a small DB logo, whereas 60039 has been rebranded with a DB large logo. 60024 was the other 60 working off Westbury and the quarries, in what turned out to be their swansong in the area. Sadly, something never to he repeated.

  17. Have you considered using Excel?

Loads of guidance and tutorials online of how to do things in it, and I know you can use it to create a random number generator. You can also hide or lock content, and create a clean looking worksheet for use by operators, with the clever bits hidden on another worksheet. Hiding or locking that sheet means data can't be deleted or formulae broken accidentally.

What are those on the STS tanks, vacuum pipes or air pipes? Forgive my ignorance but what’s the difference?

Two completely different and incompatible braking systems.

Vacuum brakes use a vacuum to hold the brakes off, an increase in pressure causes them to apply.

Air brakes use compressed air to hold the brakes off, a reduction in pressure causes them to apply.

Both are fail safe, should a train (and consequently the pipes) part, air rushes in or out respectively, applying the brakes.

Some vehicles are dual braked, and are fitted with both systems, like the 47 posted above.

If modelling a wagon in the TOPS era, the third letter of the code will tell you what it's equipped with even if you can't see the end to see the pipes.

These TTAs are air brake only. TTV would be vacuum only. Most other letters are dual braked or piped.

    Stolen from Wikipedia:

    A:Air brake only

B:Air brake plus through vacuum pipe

    D:Electronic control

    E:Electro-pneumatic brake

F:Vacuum brake (AFI equipment) [AFI: Accelerator Freight Inshot - a rapid-acting vacuum brake[3]]

G:Vacuum brake plus through air pipe (AFI equipment)

    H:Dual brake (AFI equipment)

    O:Unfitted (handbrake only)

    P:Unfitted with through vacuum pipe

    Q:Unfitted with through air pipe

R:Unfitted with through air and vacuum pipes

    V:Vacuum brake only

W:Vacuum brake plus through air pipe

    X:Dual brake (air and vacuum)

    Y:Unfitted (Civil Engineer's self-propelled stock)

Z:Automatic brake of unknown working order[3]
