  1. So, a challenge for you photoshoping types: How about applying the new Freightliner livery to something with a sleeker curved front. Thinking HST or a Voyager or something...

Would be interested to see how it sits on a prototype which isnt full of such sharp angles.

I did have the thought of trying it on a duff...

There was mention on the old forum of a basic tutorial for all of us dimwits who drool over the images but can't make our own icon_redface.gif Any offers or is this an unbelievably huge task that I'm asking?

At the moment I don't have the time to sit down and knock something together about my methods, but perhaps it maybe worth a thread in Photography? I'd be interested to compare notes on techniques with Paul

A quick pair for tonight, some Pendolinos

DB Bahn (West Coast) winning the WCML franchise when it comes up

If the GWML is ever electrified, what about Pendo power?

I'm not particularly happy with this, it just doesn't look right, particularly the high gloss blue. Maybe needs another try

Both are in the gallery http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?app=gallery&module=user&user=6899&do=view_album&album=468

  2. It is interesting to note that Eurostar's livery is the oldest in current use on a mainline passenger train fleet in the UK.

And yet it doesn't look old or outdated. Nice job on the AGV by the way, not sure I like the styling of the train though.

I assume from what you've written this is intended as a free for all thread?

    Here's a few I've played with recently

  3. Bettys...Fuglys...Predators...whatever we call them, they sound mean. Just like a TIE fighter, with some added chugging. Far better than the whining from a 66 working hard. Maybe Twin Ion technology is the answer for future traction laugh.gif

Here's 70003 passing Hall End with 4Z70 Rugeley - Stoke Gifford coal empties about 25 to one this lunchtime. Man it was cold out

  4. i believe its double headed sheds on the murco...Or maybe its a day off!

There were a couple of days in early September when that happened, here on 1/9/09

Hope this wasn't the last Tug I fot for a while...and beast's hints are usually pretty reliable smile.gif

I still find the fuel economy and build of the 66s a real shock in comparison to the 60s, and double heading can't be a realistic long term option, as Martyn says train lengths would need a huge increase for this to work long term. Markets are still down, so hopefully as they pick up, a need for more traction, and heavier trains, could see a pick up of the Brushes. Only time will tell, think positive in the mean time biggrin.gif

  5. Anyway, has the curtain finally fallen on the Brush Type 5's??

Well the supposed Saturday cut off hasn't happened, several are still out and about in the active WC** pools, and 60041 is allocated to tonight's Lindsey-Westerleigh and tomorrow's return...

I did hear from a very reliable source (ie, he'd been to Siemens earlier that week) that Siemens may be looking at buying some cheap from DB, and re-engine with a Cat lump and use them as hire locos, either UK or Europe. The shells are in good condition, with very little, if any, rust on the very worst examples. Siemens and DB have a very good working relationship apparently

  6. 70002 at Stoke Gifford was idling while we were there today. It sounds remarkably like an MTU engine, with a bit more of a 60 style chuggy-ness. Every now and then, it got louder with a rather healthy belch of clag, presumably as some change happened in the engine, whether it was picking up more cylinders for a bit, or changing the 4 that it was idling on. Suffice to say, it was next to a pair of 66s, both yinging away to themselves. The external noise level at idle of the 70 is similar I reckon to the sheds, but it doesn't travel anywhere near as far, or as easily, due to the different noise.

  7. Nice idea about trying a split headcode Mike - will have to give it a try. as you say, the body between the cabs is very much a scaled down US body design, just substitute the multitude of US warning labels with British HSE ones biggrin.gif Yeah I think the DB livery looks quite good Simon, though I doubt they'll get any, more likely looking to a European manufacturer if they do need more stock. Off to play some more with Photoshop later

  8. Well, I've got to say, embarrassingly, it's growing on me! blink.gif laugh.gif Though it does look like a hamster stuffing it's cheeks when it's sat next to the shed

Looking at the photos, it does seem to explain why the horn grill looks like it's on upside down - otherwise the wipers wouldn't meet in the middle. I wonder if the lamp irons are retractable, or whether they were added at Newport, as that's the first time they appeared in photos.

Has anyone worked out why there are yellow circles on the buffers? Not a "grease here" point for the American builders is itwink.gif, given they don't usually have to deal with buffers?

  9. from what i have been told, they both went to a depot in bristol, but i cant remember the name of the place at the moment!! one was left there and the other was moved up to the midlands (possibly the Freigthliner container terminal in birmingham but again not good with names) but as the lickey was closed for works it came through Kidderminster and Stourbridge at some ungodly time yesterday morning. something like 03.30. My contact that I have had no idea that it was coming up until 02.30 and decided against waking me up which was the right idea.

As I type this they should have not long arrived at Stoke Gifford yard (basically Bristol Parkway) with 66585 as motive power. Either later tonight, or tomorrow night, 70001 will head north to Lawley St. Not sure if it'll stay here, or be moved again for crew training, as I've also heard of it heading to Ipswich and Leeds. All from reliable gen sources too

  10. ....Take a look at the aggresive nose on the RhB's new Allegra units to see good industrial design.

    http://www.railpictu...=302314&nseq=14

See? much better and still looks angry.

Yeah, looks ok, pity about the jumpers though. Couldn't they have hidden them somewhere? biggrin.gif

Jack it was 70001-002 i think 3,4,5 are on their way but can't remember smile.gif

70001 and 2 have arrived at Newport. 70003-6 are the ones due for loading in the US soon. These 6 are the pre-series locos, for initial testing, then the remaining 24 will follow on

  11. Nice variety of tractors there so far. Of course 37047 is unusual in that it's an ex split box rebuilt with centre code, looking rather strange with the horns above a centre code box!

Here's a couple more for the collection, both standard centre box refurb ends, one with ETH, one without. There's also a bit of variation with the lamp irons too
